>Ne-Yo wrote the 2006 hit single "Irreplaceable" for Beyoncé. It was featured on her sophomore album, B'Day. Ne-Yo originally wrote the track for himself as a country-style song. He decided to give it to Beyoncé because he felt the lyrics about easily replacing a partner sounded empowering coming from a woman, but would have come across as mean and misogynistic if sung by a man.

I read this article yesterday

Yeah do some sort of modulation on the vocal synth, whatever to get some change and motion and maybe quieten it a bit more. That steady note sine sounding thing stands out a bit, maybe some other part could take its place at some point? Would adding some very subtle strings be too much at one emotional peak? Weird cut around 1:06

Yeah I think I could tone down that single tone a bit both that and the little vocal synth/bell stand out too much. Could probably lessen the field recording too and yeah I don't know how *nd8dnt notice that weird cut not sure what that is I'll have to fix that.

As far as composition or chord arrangement goes though, I feel it's pretty solid. Do you think it needs a "C" Part?

okay..?

she/her team are fucking awful at handling her image and have been for most of her career now.
why the atlantic is even bothering covering this is beyond me. the only thing keeping her “relevant” is the endless hissy fit she’s been throwing- it’s practically off topic with how little anybody even considers her music.

Did i add too much resonance and distortion to this dnb chorus? Does it sound balanced between drums and reese / mid bass?

She was the hook for the article, but it was about more than just her. No one can tell if the streaming metrics are being faked/gamed (more than usual), or if their second albums are just shit, or if they're good but just not getting TikTok traction for whatever reason... I thought it was interesting.

oh. link dumping with no context is bot behavior

yes there is now an added layer at the distribution level where nobody knows what the fuck is going on.

it used to be:
listener>(traditional media telling everybody what to think)<artist

whereas now it's
listener>(traditional media interpreting the streaming black box) // but also seeing the actual reactions on social media that may or may not be real and is also determined by your own algorithm bubble while also being highly subject to ones own media literacy<artist

personally i find the failing pop figure/mono culture thing to be tired as fuck, but the inner workings of why (sans any socio political implications because that's something entirely different) and what should be next are interesting.

pharrell isn't the craziest example but you can see his head is pretty big compared to this chick. there's a pretty voluminous brain inside that head.

how the hell do I get that THICC sounding bass?

let this gay ass thread die so we can get a decent OP

>clean low end (i.e. high pass your non-bass elements or low shelf them down a bit... sometimes having some low end on synths or other stuff is beneficial)
>use a basic wave form, typically sine wave, and slightly distort its high end for harmonics (also throw a low pass on it, but not too aggressive)

thats just basic thicc, if you want ultra thicc, make a circle on the oscilloscope by panning 0 and 90 phases of a sine wave respectively left and right
