Standard Stratocaster tortoise pickguard edition
>>
>>131086171
Now this is how you make a super strat that not only sounds, but looks super. (to fender: what are you going to do, bitch?)
>>
>>131086171
What determines a good tortoise shell guard vs a bad one? Why do people spend $300 on Spitfire tortoise shell guards over something $50 from Fender?

and why would anyone care about upgrading a pickguard? that's the least of the upgrades one could make regarding a strat unless that pickguard comes in with better pick-ups. chasing looks is less important that chasing tone.

learn to play on the four top strings and memorize the jazz chord shapes, that's going to be your jam, get whatever song list book (one of those "top X songs in fingerstyle") made for fingerstyle covers that you want to actually learn to play and work through that, also you got to train with a metronome.

Hey guys, I was just thinking about something.

Consider all the different models of guitar and amps and pedals/effect suites that Fender has... and all the possible rigs you could make with those combinations. Fender guitar, Fender cables, Fender pedals, Fender amps. I bet you could go your whole lifetime playing different Fender rigs. Somebody do the math.
And then you include the different finishes. Wow. Think about that.
What do you think your favorite combination would be?

Every acoustic I’ve ever played that was below $1500 had a bum note or two somewhere on the neck and lost a ton of projection with a capo. The overwhelming majority of cheap acoustics also have a very bad warble in the resonance chamber and don’t have very good sustain. The steel string acoustic guitar is one of the quietest acoustic instruments in a jam session and you really need all you can get so you don’t have to play so hard to be heard. I don’t fuck with cheap acoustics unless it’s going to get beat to shit going camping.

that was from a week ago and yeah im still baked. im trying to get into writing music. im watching absolutely understand guitar and using that to improv. i also kinda just make riffs by using someone elses rythyms and then playing around with stuff until it sounds good and then making variants of that. im still very very new at that thoughm me and my friend are gonna get together sometime this weekend to jam and try to write lyrics and riffs together, i forgot when lol. he did get a new violin so were gonna try to play the 2 instruments together since he sucks ass at guitar. shame i wont have my new ironbird this weekend to christen the two instruments together. ill bring my sd2.
>>
>>131087792
oh that sounds cool i hope you have fun! ive been learning violin too actually i just started like 3 months ago or something. it's been fun writing harmonised little violin parts to go in songs, but i still kinda suck at bowing

i hope your new guitar turns out ok, i'm not usually into shreddy guitars but i have an esp eclipse thing that i used for that riff, it kinda feels like a toy compared to my other guitars lol but i can definitely play shreddy stuff way easier on it
>>131087768

you want me to explain harmonising?
thats dangerous anon i will sperg for hours
idk desu i've spent years learning theory but nowadays i don't usually consciously think of like "oo i'm gonna do a neapolitan 6th now" or whatever, i kinda just hallucinate the music in my head and then work it out
>>
>>131087908
ideas on how to play the two instruments together. were new to jamming and have only done it a few times. never with a violin and guitar. we jammed together with guitars, but he developed in violin way faster than guitar. i was thinking maybe pick a chord, play a drum beat and we trying to synchronize in some way? heres the guitar im waiting for. felt like a noise marine weapon. im gettimg this exact one
>>
Just harmonize in thirds like Iron Maiden
>>
>>131087931
oh yea definitely you should play rhhthym and let him play lead! pick just like a simple 2 chord thing (they call it a vamp) and just jam out on it.
violin is tuned GDAE so stuff in the key of E minor/G major (or keys somewhat close to there on the circle of 5ths) is usually easy to play. G minor is ok too i guess but thee 5ths tuning on violin makes major keys easier than minor so its kinda opposite to guitar in that respect

idk if you've heard django & stepane grappelli but if not check it out. minor swing is fun to jam on especially
>>

Vertu with Ritchie Kotzen also comes to mind for more fusion stuff, and of course Mahavishnu Orchestra

And most importantly check out The Aristocrat's This is not scrotum, record version and Guthrie's live ones

>>
>>131088192
fuck anon you got me i will do a quickie
well tertian harmony is like a whole thing obviously and there's a lot you can find written about that, rules of counterpoint etc
a cool thing to try though for something different is to harmonise pentatonically, ofc you can use the normal major/minor pentatonics but there's many other 5-note collections that work, a maj7#11 or m6/9 arpeggio are especially nice in that regard, i guess due to their mix of interval sizes

ofc you'll have to think in like pentatonic degrees like for example in major/minor pentatonic, a "third" is now a fourth or a major third, and a "fourth" is now a fifth or a major 6th, and for the other scales you get some really interesting stuff from the different step sizes. but yea its a cool way to get harmonies that you might not usually think of

or you can just think of each voice as independent and as long as they are internally melodically consistent, say fuck it cause chords are not even real and you'll probably get something interesting

ok idk if any of that made sense i am very tiredd but I hope so
>hot club de france enjoyer

night anonn
>>
>>131088197
i guess if you're high up the neck its ok
If you use your littlee finger tho then you can use your middle finger to reslove it to the note a semitone below the lowest one (on Eb on 13th fret of D string in your example) which is nice if you wannna more strongly empasise the implied Eb7b9 or just resolve to that nnotee melodically
fuck i should reealy sleep i have to bake a cake tomorrow

the other day i was looking for cheap starter guitars that were surprisingly good on youtube and i found this really cool telecaster with i believe a floating bridge and some like ergonomic cuts on the back of the guitar, it was in the range of 200 to 400 dollars, i really want that tele body with those ergonomic cuts, but i can't find it anywhere i don't remember what brand it was or anything.
that was the one that got away.
i would have loved to build a partscaster with that body. i should have bookmarked it.
if anyone knows what i might be talking about let me know.

Recording is a bit muffled but it passes if one is not attentive. Rhythm is off sometimes, the accenting of the downbeats or strumming pattern
Try to have some dynamics like softer then louder as you go into the chorus, maybe even change the chord voicings *i.e. instead of the open cowboy chords try barre chords in different parts of the song

DOes anyone else have an rc 600? Mine has always had problems, the first loop doesnt record wo Ive been living with only 5 loops and now the data got currupted somehow, I'm doing a factory reset but it's been going on way too long i think the thing is fucked. Makes me so mad cause i like the utility of the looper, ive been recording everything with it. I have an rc 300 that wont turn on ever since i accidently broke the power cord port. I don't know what looper to get now if i need another. I don't even think I can record because my interface is fucked too. I loved the rc300. It had a built in volume pedal, you can't beat that. Maybe i can get another of those cheap cause they got the new one now. Anyway what are your thoughts on loopers?

>>131090813
I got it recording through my digitone. Using my grandcanyon as a looper now. One good thing about having a lot of gear is finding back up plans lol. Still don't know what to do about the looper though, the rc 600 is STILL factory resetting, so i think it's safe to say it's fucked. I really liked having all the routing options it had

this thread needs more reddit frog pictures.

we have strayed from the path--the path of dampness, of warts, of unblinking spherical eyes that judge neither rich nor poor--and we must return. post your reddit frogs. the bulging ones. the sitting ones. the ones that look like they know something about the universe that we do not.

why should you post? because a reddit frog is a mirror, because a reddit frog is a friend, because a reddit frog is a small wet man who has never failed you.

What do you think is easier, piano or guitar? I'm a pianist learning guitar and so far, it's a lot less forgiving.
>>
>>131092003
Piano is easier. I've been playing guitar since i was 13 and recently started learning keys. Keys are much easier and far less frustrating than the typical guitar player story of learning on a crap guitar, blisters on fingers, can't fret an F chord for years lol
>>
>>131092003
>piano
just press a key and it sounds great
>guitar
sorry your left hand pressure isn't right so it's buzzy, oh and your right hand attack wasn't quite right so your dynamics are off, and your left and right hands are out of sync, and you forgot to mute your unwanted strings, and you didn't tune in the past 5 minutes so you're out of tune again, and your intonation isn't perfectly adjusted since the humidity and temperature has changed, and etc etc
>>
>>131092003
piano is mechanically easier per note but that also just means you can write more complex pieces

They each have their own difficulties. In terms of required skill level to be considered a good player to normies guitar is a lot easier. I play guitar because it is my favorite compromise between piano and violin, with violin being the most unforgiving by far.

gain and breakup are different things. gain is the strength of the signal. breakup is the tube clipping due to that strong input. changing tubes isn't going to increase gain, it's going to raise or drop the threshold at which the gain pushes the tube to clip

yea, but still gain isn't breakup/distortion. if a tube provides more gain and it breaks up more, it's because the next tube is clipping. if your power tube provides more gain, there's nothing after that so you won't get more clipping
