I am about to clean out my vital presets. I download so many packs when I started out and most of it is like wubs, rick rolls and useless bass noises. I think most of this trash came from the vital discord
>>131105230thought on these tracks? how should i mix them? I never can get a good guitar sound when recording DI. also, not sure about breaks on tracks 1 and 2, do they sound way too different to the rest?https://vocaroo.com/1gHZld264fWGhttps://vocaroo.com/19s1Ug3z3Gy5https://vocaroo.com/1eDlrQmvYC6h
>>131105230MIB does not emply aliens
>>131105693i mean the first one is a good track. id bring the drums up or perhaps switch to some fuller ones (ezdrummer, they have a blues tight preset). youve run into the issue a lot of guitarist run into and thats panning issues. it depends on how many guitar parts you have im not sure if i hear 2 or 3 but id probably go left 35 rhythm, right 35 lead. that sweet little echoy lead at the end, double that and do it like 55 left and 55 right. or you can use something like stereo savage. if that echo lead is the same as the main lead, id just keep everything panning 35 left and right. put bass up the middle. the break sounds good keep it
maybe i'm just spoiled from hybrid reverb but khs convolver is actually kinda garbo i think somebody should really make one to rule them allvoc related new era coming https://vocaroo.com/15hHA3KHWSby
feeling some pretty intense burnout since my i put out my last album. finding it kinda hard to just open the DAW and start on a new song. it's not that i don't have material ready. i've got like 5 full albums written/tabbed out and ready to go. i just don't wanna jump back into another album :/
>>131108529real and i've been struggling with that as well. writing new things is fun. working toward putting things out is... work...idk i've found it helps to mentally be thinking of what the next move is going to be despite whatever you're working on so you don't end up stuck wondering what to do once you're done.
>>131108582oh i know full-well which album i'm gonna record next. it's just getting back on the horse. i always get burnout after putting out an album. and i'm not getting any younger. it seems the burnout lasts longer every time...
>>131108582>which album i'm gonna record nexti meant more llke, what you're going to explore next. what's going to excite you, thinking about what music is currently interesting for you.obvs this is just me but i find it really hard to "get back on the horse" without something fun to be doing.working on an album is basically just seeing something through (to me) it's practically busy work
>>131108712i do agree. i think every album should be a departure for the last (unless you're trying to pin down a VERY specific sound over the course of a few albums like pink floyd or beach boys). i've taken my current sound about as far as i think it can go. the next album is gonna be more aggressive and bare-bones. more mathcore elements. weird time signatures. more frantic screaming type stuff. i've taken synths and autotune and breakdowns as far as i my abilities will allow.
>>131108726wish you were here for me... tough call thoughswag you should add breakcore to that probably to appeal to my personal taste.tend to agree though ya
>>131108762>swag you should add breakcore to that probably to appeal to my personal taste.funny enough, i have a note in my files that says>use amen break drums for pre-breakdown buildup
We recorded these songs like a year apart, and I have no idea how to get the the last 2 songs to sound more like the first one. Do we just have to rerecord?https://vocaroo.com/1nyajBJicGJMhttps://vocaroo.com/1cqZkHL7vOXchttps://vocaroo.com/1jTfwO4j6NE8
can I get some feedback/hate on this creation? I’m experimenting with production techniques to create a specific, kinda smooth, less aggressive version of the old black metal demo sound, to lean more into the magical, almost dungeon synth vibes. https://voca.ro/1kjfxZfvTKmythanks a lot!
should i get a used akai mpc live 1 to make music in forest? is it worth 500 money?
>>131111009Depends. Do you want a cool toy to play with? Go for it. Do you chase a specific creative vision? Save the cash.

Alright, my alors en danse dnb remix is done, i think, no idea what to add /change whateverhttps://voca.ro/17OMophwl7vOWhat do you guys think?
>>131111066i want to try making music on hikes and when traveling. MPCs seem capable of making full tracks, unlike other grooveboxes
>>131111390It would be definitely a fun thing to own in your case. If you got the cash, I say go for it. Much more fun than working in a daw anyways.
Need headphones for listening to music and producing music.ATH-M50x vs. DT 770 Pro? ATH-M50x is much cheaper in local stores. I have a DT 770 M (not pro) and I learned it has shit sound - is that true? They don't clamp anymore - and I changed the pads to velour. But I read that the sound is shit - should I upgrade?I make classical-sounding stuff, electronic music, rock and metal - I make it in DAWs - I record guitar and use a midi keyboard.I listen to all kinds of music, anything from death metal to electronic and classical. What do you think anons? Or do you have other suggestions?Gonna ask on other boards and threads, too
>>131111361I assume this is not mixed yet but even for that the bass and subs are super weak
>>131112047Can only speak from my experience, but I own the ATH ones and it’s great imo. Never noticed any issues and the listening is enjoyable as well.
>>131112047>DT 770 ProI have the 80OHM version of these and I've never considered changing them. I do mostly similar stuff, bit of electronic, bit of rock/metal, all in the daw. I like them because they have slightly more bass than my monitors, but are still pretty flat otherwise. That was before I got a sub woofer, mind, but I still prefer to use them when I'm recording guitar and bass parts over my monitors. Like shorts, they are comfy and easy to wear.

>>131112679>>131112797thanks anonsATH-M50x are like 100 bucks here, are they fake or something? MSRP is around 150, right? So these could be fake or refurbished? They claim they're new>>131113199it's fine anon I'm in the thread, can read it

i synthesize everything from scratch nowhttps://vocaroo.com/17fj47hxkTOt
thoughts on the overall composition for this? https://vocaroo.com/1fPF50RENAUrthe guitars are vital + guitar rig because i dont have a setup to record a good DI dont really know what im doing mix wise because im a month into /prod/ and music making in general
refute this:mastering was created by jews to keep ur money.every device will play ur shit differently, so might aswell ignore mastering and even market it as "true indie"
I think I've been over-relying on making the mixbus do all the work. Here everything is processed much more individually. Mixbus is slight broadstroke EQ with some tape saturation.https://vocaroo.com/14So2PbYcQMP
>>131111009Nightmare is kinda taken tho...
>>131111009Buy it or a similar thing. When these niggers are broke you'll have a piece of gear you can use to make music daw style but away from a pc, and most important, for live performance. They told me not to purchase picrel, I'm making grat leads, etc, which I would not otherwise...
I want to try to make synthpop or electro house but I'm quite ashamed to record myself singing in my room with my family near
idk what else to do with this manghttps://voca.ro/1nGlFzZGDPbx
>>131118110Nobody in your family will know you're uploading here, or anywhere. Does it really matter? If it sounds good, no. If it sounds like testing shit? No. Just record and do your thing. Doesn't matter what they think. It's hard to have those close by with the most amount of judgement, especially personal judgement where they have their own opinions on specific music....but the best kind of family nurtures what you're going for. If they don't, maybe they're a family that have been brought up through ridicule to somehow enhance their ability to get through all of the abrasiveness, like sharpening a knife/sword. There isn't a particular way about it. Wherever you come from, we all adapt to how this shit goes, like in every direction.
>>131111009It's great, Roger Linn even likes it.
>>131118110What I'm getting at >>131118215 is yes upload it here. Don't be afraid of the criticism. Take it in stride and get better. That's what I meant about going against the wheatstone. You'll get better.
>>131118743Don't upload things, it just feeds the AI now.
>>131118755I really hate how I have to agree with this. What about creating a private version of /mu/ (sure there are already some out there)?
>>131118775Let me tell you, as a long time multi-decade hobbyist of all kinds of music, you can tell when something's shitty or if you think it's decent, you don't need other people to give you superficial pointers at all. Creating music was meant to be spontaneous and fun as a pastime hobby for so long, for no other reason than it's fun, and people like to try to ruin the idea of doing that by saying OH GEE if you don't UPLOAD it what's it all for? It's as if these aren't even people, they are bots designed to try to suck the joy out of something that could be as simple as whistling or humming. I blame France.
>>131118797What if I told youNot all people share the same values and musical goals as you?
>>131118850So you wanna make it big? Why? Seems like a silly goal, the machine doesn't care about music.
>>131118881i’m already huge. regardless of it being silly (to you) you’re being a dickhead
>>131118797you're stupid as fuck. sharing your work and getting feedback is a critical part of growing as an artist
it’s funny because i agree conceptually that if you actually have the ear and good taste you really don’t need the pointers and should trust yourself, or be very selective about what opinion you internalize anyway.however having that sense for anybody who isn’t an extremely gifted outlier (even among “tha pr0s” is usually something you build up to with hard work and experience, it’s not just some innate quality you have or you don’t. anybody who has to proclaim this on a cartoon board full of amateurs is most likely a coping pseud who got burned one too many times and had to prematurely adopt this mindset to protect their fragile ego KEK

>>131122096Yes, it's almost certainly AI. The vocals are way too clean and they sound like generic AI gibberish. They also suspiciously whipped up those vocals really quickly, sounding almost fully (overly) processed.
What's the /prod/ approved way of making music? I wanna do a metal song and I always start by picking up the guitar and jaming around to find nice sounding riffs and melodies. I just got back from a cruise, and the ship's DJ fucking sucked. I never want to hear that fucking Black Eyed Peas song ever again. I was thinking about giving her a USB of some of my stuff.
Too woke anon here. The single most impactful thing that YOU can do for the environment is to NOT go on a cruise. Also the DJ will suck and you may get stuck out there.Worth it?
>>131123810I didn't want to go, but my mom wanted it as a "family vacation". I hadn't seen them in years, so whatever, I got guilted into it. Some of the other live music on the ship was pretty good. I don't blame the DJ, I'm sure the cruise line gave her a list of shit to play.

EQ Three “flat response”can somebody explain what’s being done technically? the sound is obvious. but i would like to know and its not in the ableton manual.

>>131130706This reminds of EQ plugins that claim to be modeled after certain analog units where if you analyze the plugin in something like plugin doctor, you see a few slight bell curves at a few dB. I get why they do it and that if you're going to model an analog unit, you won't have a truly flat response but I hate it so much. EQ seems like the one effect where in the digital domain you would want it to not add harmonics or just extra level especially without being told so.
>>131131254just use your other stock eq then if you want it to be clean duhi'm using thr33 specifically for effect and i was asking about this because i thought the non-flat-response may have been useful as an extreme effect for what i was doing. very YAOOOW YAOOOW coded>>131130706stop responding to me loser
>>131131254analog gear is extremely important for music, if you insist on using a ton of plugins you should still emulate the behavior of analog gear. use something like fabfilter pro-q if you want a plain digital EQ.
like on some of charli xcx's recent songs you can tell that the idea is there but the execution is off. it's ridiculous that they're successful millionaire producers but don't care to put in the effort to improve their sound.
>>131131503i agree, rock music was the clearest example of this. it feels very millenial
>>131131503*i* would have preferred it another way, but their execution was a result of *their* intention, not a lack of effort put into the production.charli xcx is probably the dumbest example you could pick for this topic
>>131127559Is this bedroom production or are you working from studio recordings? If bedroom you need to share your set up or give some tips, cause it's so much cleaner than anything I've heard across multiple places sharing bedroom recording/daw recordings of guitar/vocals etc.

most third worlders are literally stupid and ignorant, not artistic geniuses in any reasonable sense, this also applies to most people in first world countries of all races, it's truly an exceptionally rare gift if someone is an artistic genius
if you think i'm an idiot, there is an even bigger idiot ITT, the boomer who has been on a multi-year harassment campaign against me, he has absolutely nothing to contribute to the world regarding music, he has nothing better to do than to bully and harass people who are clearly doing better than him, who can figure things out extremely quickly with no ceiling in sight, basically unlimited genius talent, i can have top tier studio hardware that most people consider is unaffordable or they don't even understand what's the point of it, but i can have it because i'm smart
>>131136472>kys retardYep, seething. You're not even consistent with yourself. I couldn't care less.>>131136779>i'm smartL O LOL
most people just don't have it in them to be truly great and successful so they won't be swayed to fully embrace analog hardware no matter what. you either get it or you don't so you decide for yourself to seek out hardware or not. these people don't have the capacity to get the full experience of enjoying music and being able to produce or engineer great music themselves. for me at least it seems to be an innate talent since early childhood in being able to recognize the specialness in certain ways of the sound of highly popular and commercially successful music. it also seems that a disproportionate amount of untalented people get into trying to produce music because they underestimate the difficulty of it because they don't fully appreciate and respect all of the different aspects of the production of the greatest music records.
Some people say you didn't make it until you made millions and became famous then they say it's ridiculous because something somewhat rustled their jimmies.
>>131137726ag cook basically lucked into the opportunity to work with charli xcx who was already one of the top names in the industry, she had a feature on an iggy azalea song for instance. it's stupid shitbag behavior to continue to make slop when you could easily afford to improve your sound and make tens of millions more.

time to do my vocaroo rounds
>>131110567Couple things going on. What particularly do you like about the first one? Heres what I notice. The first song is a denser arrangement. Still theres probably significant overdub (wall of sound) of guitars really low in the mix, usually you crunch the hell out of it and pan it left and right about 45 percent. I notice hard panning, you have dual guitars sounds like different parts which is good. The other tracks dont sound bad but production wise they sound like a post Artist In The Ambulance Thrice song. I'm guessing a significant part is also your bass, getting it to thicken up the mix but not become boomy is difficult. I notice a little boomyness in the last two bass guitars, maybe some cuts and saturation could help.
>>131115124its good. feels a little linkin park (not in a bad way just with the electronic elements).the mix is good, its close. with heavy guitars you can either hard pan left and right (100) with two takes..this is kinda of the late 90s early 2000s nu metal approach. however with no vocal elements its probably fine to do it up the middle. the levels seem close>dont really know what im doing mix wise because im a month into /prod/ and music making in generalnone of us know what we're doing that's the fun part and it's what drives chuzo mad
>>131118214sounds like its begging for drums to kick in after the second gap at the end, id do that and put some absolutely crushed guitars on the sides and fade it out. very spacey interstellarly as is though, its nice

>>131118797for some reason, uploading helps immensely finalizing the process and getting a new point of view, even if you're the only one listening to the upload
>>131115529Eh, it made more sense back in the day where you needed to do stuff like make sure there wasn't too much low end when cutting vinyl records etc. but there's still a great deal in it. The problem is that so many songs these days are already mixed incredibly well that a mastering engineer worth their salt won't need to do much anyway maybe beyond squeezing the last few drops out with a good limiter.
>>131143591that's the only "artistic" point of mastering: saving a recording that sounds like shit. which is a weird thing to do with a simple stereo file instead of separate tracks

I am using Acid Pro 4, released in 2002. The year before Sony bought them out and then bundled the same rootkit with it they put on physical CDs that killed your CD writer drivers, as an anti-piracy measure. Which I never saw reported, but independently verified by installing acid pro 5, starting a process whose name started with $SYS$ and watched it disappear from task manager.I am using it in a virtual machine with a Linux host. I would never run bare metal Windows these days.https://vocaroo.com/134V3wHCYGYVThis is the track I'm working on. Rate, slate, hate. But give me feedback. Early 2000s drum and bass vibe
>>131166662>acid proIm traumatised after using acid pro 7 for years then later bought 10 and 11 after magix acquired the IP. It has become vapourware and their bundles with the core fx plugins dont work, their support is non-existent and the forums are full of people telling the company they are pieces of shit
>>131166852Ir's been shit since Sony bought them in 2003. Version 4 is still good though, the one I'm using. Still on Piratebay.
>>131166461Because I'm not making silly posts calling everyone unhelpful and snarky and literally doing just that in the process? You are retarded.
>>131166662>https://vocaroo.com/134V3wHCYGYVThose piano chords are a bit too simple and boring to just be repeated so many times like this before the drums come in. I think you should find some variations or more interesting elements to them. Maybe instead of being always identical, have them loop three times and then have something different the fourth time. Maybe you could have a little pitch sliding down effect on them at some point, play around with a delay or reverb, put another melody on top, have a little rhythmic shift just something so it's not just "the same two chords four times each".Same goes for the drums by the way, nice start but you need variations in that pattern, fills and stuff. The 808 that comes in at 1:23 is a bit too out of tune I think. Or not enough.
>>131167023look at what you just wrote. the irony! you're a complete idiot, you never say anything good about music. you seem to hate music in general, even when you bring up examples of successful artists, you're just looking for reasons for why you can make music in a certain way without caring about the quality because you think those artist made low quality music and are only successful in spite of it.
>>131166971Im curious why you're not using something more modern
>>131159182Unless you're doing some real heavy distortion that will push harmonics right up to nyquist such as clipping, you usually don't even need oversampling. Sometimes, if you use a true peak meter you can see that enabling even 2x OS will bring true peaks down from +0.5dbFS to 0.1 but it's mostly a non issue.
you still haven't answered the anon who asked about fl studio vs ableton. you have a simple pavlovian response - which doesn't require high-level thinking - to attack anons who you perceive to be chuzo. you lack self-awareness about your own abhorrent abusive behavior so you accuse others like "no u". after years of trying to become a music producer, you still have an absurdly surface-level perception of music. you don't "read between the lines" about how studio hardware was used to help make successful songs sound interesting. you don't even understand using plugins to emulate that hardware. if you knew what's good for you, you would rethink this whole producing thing because you don't even have the most basic normie intuition that successful artists have an impressive sound which would require exceptional genius talent for someone to make on their own in a bedroom studio. instead, you think that the artists don't sound impressive, that you just need to nail the songwriting and then you can pretty much just bullshit your way through the production process. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT, FUCKFACE
