I have an intro/main riff and a little solo bridge to move into the verse, a couple of different versions of a verse and a section for a solo, but I can't figure out how to move into the key change between the chorus and the solo without just being real fucking clunky

What do. (No recording at current moment)

How am I expected to press the Low E string on the 4th fret with the tip of my pinky when my index is on the 1st without an extreme contorsion of my wrist? Will that just come with time?
>>
>>131123024
Yes, basically. Keep stretching, make sure your thumb is in the right place.
>>
>>131123024
That shouldn't be difficult. You're actually gonna be expected to regularly hit the 5th fret with your pinky and sometimes 6th. Just keep practicing and building dexterity, that 4th fret will be as easy as 1 2 and 3 soon enough.

I was on vacation, and in a record store they had this thing. I plugged it into the amp but there was no distortion on it (they let me try it out) so I asked the guy to help me get some grit on the orange amp they had.

What's your take on the Sung Il locking trems? They seem to be Korean made but I can't find any into on its specs.

He put it on for me and I started playing some riffs, mainly bleach riffs. I put the guitar back, bought some tapes and got out
>>
>>131123222 I remember that unlike my guitar the dotted inlays were in the center while mine were at the begining of the fret. the action was a bit higher as well and it was a strat but offset

It was a pretty nice guitar: I'm going to try and find one used and buy it. I also love the fact it seems to have a whammy bar, so I can start incoperating that into my playing.

Good morning bros. Do we like Plexis?
>>
>>131123290
All the hate on shredders is born out of jealousy from guitarists who couldn't play half as fast or clean. Even if shredding isn't your cup of tea, acting like this just shows a bruised ego and a hurt butt.
>>
Im just starting to learn the fretboard, but ive been playing for a little bit. I've noticed this pattern quite a bit in death metal, specifically a tremelo picking line on one string where you shift your hand back and forth 2 frets, in this case to hit the 12th fret on the d# string. Now that I know the layout of the board, I asked myself why not just hit the 7th fret of the a# string since then you dont need to move your fretting hand and its not like its an odd number of notes for the string change?
>>
>>131123325
It's a different tone between the third (unwound) and fourth (wound) string so that might be another reason why. It's slight but noticeable.
>>
>>131121939
>deleted after being up over an entire day

JANNY = NO FUN BUTTHOLE
>>
>>131123364
I mean it was pretty much identical
>>
>>131123325
>>131123349
More than likely just whoever wrote the tab didn't think too much about it. I guess it's one less string skip which can be awkward when trem picking.
>>
>>131123325
why didnt you just play it your way and find out for yourself instead of asking a bunch of people who dont know and dont care?
>>
>>131123387
Not necessarily in this case cause every section of notes ends on an upstroke so it's fairly easy even when hopping to the third string. But yeah, the tabs could be wrong too, always best to confirm with live footage if possible.
>>
>>131123125
Well I'm not sitting for one. And I'M holding it at a slight angle upward.
>>
>>131123125
Only when I play a V.
>>
>>131123349
Thank you I figured that was the case. How noticeable is this with a ton of gain anyway. I personally don't notice much of a difference and I'm pretty sure this record used an hm2 with a mt2 as well I think.

>>131123387
Honestly I find string skipping way easier that moving my hand around the fretboard, but thats because this thread pointed me towards troy grady my first day of practice. My picking hand is way better than my fretting one.

>>131123406
I did play and try it. I also got good discussion here so Im glad I asked.

>>131123420
Good point. I do think these tabs are accurate though. I see this pattern ALOT in this genre and Dismember are pretty good riff writers so they probably have some reason of doing it this way.
>>
>>131123292
Real niggas play that Boogie. Real niggas got that plexi
>>
>>131123315
No, he's absolutely right. No one can argue that Yngwie isn't a technically accomplished guitar player and musician because he is. He's also one of the worst artists you'll ever listen to and his one trick pony gets stale after just a few minutes. Johnny Marr is a songwriter, that pointless shredder garbage is almost always just masturbation that detracts from the song. There's a good reason why ridiculous guitar solos went out of fashion like they did when grunge killed hair metal forever.
>>
>>131123520
and yet the neoclassical solos are some of the best parts of songs by necrophagist, cryptopsy, and children of bodom. they feel like they serve the song and arent just jammed in there. but i guess thats because the songs have a lot more going to them than that one trick pony
>>
>>131123520
yeah hair metal shredding is impressive but over time people start to focus more on that than actual songwriting lol
>>
>>131123549
yeah, like Kirk Hammett shredding on the black album is good, but that's not the main focus of the song like hair metal does
>>
>be a 24 year old musican
> buy whatever the fuck you find,
>become famous
> people try to copy your gear, but since they're random one off guitars you found that aren't produced anymore, they become super expensive
>people spend thousands buying rare parts you just stumbled upon at first for cheap

Ironic isn't it?
>>
>>131123456
I mainly thought that might be the case cause I see that in my own playing too. Like, if I'm playing power chords starting in the sixth string, I like to play all of them on it since they sound quite different when played on the fifth.

>>131123520
See this is the attitude I'm talking about. Calling it garbage and whatnot, just makes you look like a jealous little faggot. Music is, of course, subjective, I find Yngwie's songs great to listen to and again, even if it's not to your taste, you don't have to shit on it like this unless you want everyone to think you are actually a jealous little faggot.

Interesting, thank you for the perspective. I suppose these kind of tendencies that will naturally emerge as I develop a playing style.
>>
>>131123606

I personally watch his content alot. usually just to learn more about Kurts guitars and tone.
>>
>>131123290
Yngwie is going to be remembered as the Paganini and Liszt of electric guitar
>>
>>131123549
I'm sure there's tonnes of interesting music inspired by Yngwie's playing but if that's true it's because they were actively trying NOT to be like Yngwie artistically.

>>131123592
His art is objectively terrible, you can like it all you want it just means you have shit taste in music. You also sound like an idiot so it looks like everything checks out.
>>
>>131123315
Cool. Now analyze Malmsteen's hate for tasteful rests and the foundation of creativity: silence. Is it because his sense of composition sucks and he's jealous?

>>131123772
I know exactly what that word means. The only people who've ever heard of Yngwie are other guitar players, because outside of his technical ability he has absolutely nothing to offer a wider audience.

You're basically comparing a well know highly regarded stenographer to authors who have written novels. The reason why he's barely known at all outside of a small circle of enthusiasts is because he couldn't manage to write a story anybody actually wanted to read. He sure can type fast and never fuck up spelling a word though. That's the problem, nobody really cares about that.

youll get there. every time you have a lick pop in your head you should work it out on the guitar immediately. its a good way to learn new techniques, develop your ear, and find your own sound on the guitar. youll have to sing the note out loud to make sure its correct on the guitar to start, because it takes quite a long time to get truly accurate internal pitch recognition

If I can't get the intonation on the low e at the 12th fret, and the frets are level on all frets, and I don't think it's a saddle issue, then it either has to be a nut issue or a bridge issue (as in, it must have been installed off) correct? I doubt it's a pickup height issue.
>>
>>131126194
IDK man my 12th fret decided it was better than the rest and decided to go up I guess

>>131126209
It's driving me nuts. This is the third pack of strings I've tried. And its not worth taking to a guitar luthier because it's just a shitty ibanez Gio from early 2000s that I want to use so I don't wear out the frets on my main telecaster.

trying to get a better shot of the bridge. I had to replace two saddles with two from an old strat. The a string intonates fine. I haven't adjusted the action yet. I gave it a little more relief. Apparently the recommended relief is .3mm to .5mm
My tele meanwhile sits at .1mm

>>131126387
all good. yeah the low e should be farther back than the A, about the same amount that the D is ahead of the A. you need to go back even further. if the spring is too long you can clip a turn and a half off of it, but it should just bunch over on itself. the EAD should look like stairs and typically the GBE will look like stairs starting over

>flat = forward (to nut)

good luck bud. relief and not even action to an extent should make a huge difference. you have to move the saddles incredibly far to see an appreciable difference in intonation
>>
>>131126513
no
>>
>>131126530
I don't understand how the strings are too short when they're triple wrapped around the posts
>>
>>131126587
Tighten them as much as you want, the distance between the nut and the bridge is the same. You want to shorten or lengthen that distance by adjusting the saddles.

the open strings are still going in the B part with the D and Em, no open strings are ringing in part A with Em7 because he is palm muting them by rotating his wrist right after he strums

You should be able to pick up what he's doing by feel. Try to copy the sound that he's making with your guitar. The staccato effect happens through your left hand if you're right handed.

Kind of, I’ve been considering a spec’d out K Line build for a long time now and have been emailing back and forth with him off and on for the last few months about his stuff so I might bite that bullet, but at the same time I’m not hurting for anything and might just sit on the money. I already have too many electrics as is and three more are already on the potentially selling chopping block. If I can’t sell 1-4 guitars and turn that into one specific thing I’d actually play and just sit on the rest of the cash for when cool stuff pops up locally I’d be happy
