>>
>>131131853
Yes. Amp quality and type is very, very important. Which sounds like a really obvious statement, but your amp really does have a much larger impact on your sound than almost any other element. My guitar has push pull pots for single coils and humbucker, and that has almost no impact on my sound at all in comparison to just turning the bass right or left on my tube amp.

So when I see A in tablature, that means Amaj, right?

Also, something I was always wondering: if you play all of the open strings, what chord is that?
>>
>>131134068
Yes A major
The EADGBE chord
>>
>>131134080
Ok. So I guess nobody could agree what it is and they just call it that?
>>
>>131134068
I believe it's technically an Em11
>>
>>131134080
>>131134158
Thank you both.

G is a bitch to play man. It always trips my whole rhythm. Those two fingers, the ring and pinky, having to fret the D and G on the higher strings, plus my middle finger muting the A string and sometimes the D string, and it sounds like such a clunky, dissonant chord, it's such a cacophonic combination of the lower sounds with the higher ones. I think I might start playing it like the Dmaj, only the 4 highest strings. I'm breaking my balls over here!
>>
>>131134205
Wait you’re playing a G chord while muting the the A and the D strings? Why?
>>
>>131134225
By mistake I mean.

I put the middle finger on the G (low E string), pointer on the B below (you know, major triad), open D, open G, ring on D, pinky on G
>>
>>131134272
Just be lazy and ditch playing the D on the B and play it open instead, or be even lazier and play a two finger G with your middle playing the G on the low E while muting the A and your ring playing the G on the high E with open G D and B playing
>>
>>131134361
Thanks master. You see, I am a fucking retard overthinker who leads himself into the bog of retardation.
>>
>>131134376
I personally play it with just middle and ring on the Gs while muting the A so I can use my index to play suspended stuff or the 7th or whatever
>>
>>131134405
Sounds a bit skillful to me to mute a string while your index and middle are occupied.

looks awesome

I have these guitars, The intonation on the one with the tremolo bar is worse than the other which is a hardtail. I'm kind torn what to do with these atm. I have on hand one extra set of strings (can't buy any rn) and some basic tools. Could I put the neck from the hardtail on the other and would that werk? The strings are rusted on both but I might be able to record a sound sample of them both to see show what they sound like. I'm gonna put the strings on one of them in the end but I dont know how to fix the intonation and not sure about the neck thing. I like the neck on the hardtail so Im leaning toward just playing that one but also kinda want the wammy so maybe transplant necks? Idk. Thoughts?

Let me guess... you need more?
>>

>>
>>131138830
don't transplant necks. if you don't even know how to do intonation, you're gonna be way out of your depth. everything will need readjusting, and they might not even be the same radius, etc etc

th 'hardtail' one looks like it has a hole for a trem arm but it's just not screwed in?

you can clean strings. use some string cleaner and scrub them. if they're really fucked, you can boil them in hot water... ive only ever done that with bass strings tho. but strings can get brittle from taking them off/on a bunch so be careful
>>
>>131138890
The hardtail is screwed down. It has a tem thing in there but it doesnt move no matter what i do. I wont change the necks that was crazy idea. The hard tail sounds my favorite but it's electronics are apparently fucked i just found out. Idk what's wrong i opened up the input jack and it looks normal.
>>
>>131139014
do you have a soldering iron? a multimeter? should be fairly simple to diagnose.
the maple neck one looks much nicer imo. setup, electronics etc are easier to change than just the original build quality of the guitar.
but seriously tho my brother in christ are you ok? your pic looks kind of like a shelter. hope your guitars can bring you some joy

>do you have a soldering iron? a multimeter?
Nope lol. I mainly just wanted to use one of these strats for practice when I'm on the floor. I don't have a lot of furniture. Ill just use my Epiphone LP Special unplugged i guess. I love LPs but i don't wanna squash the cable with it plugged in sitting down if i fall asleep of something. I have a few other guitars, I was looking on fb market to see if anyone had some guitar I could trade for with one or two or a synth or something, but it's kinda pointless just have to save money I guess. I'm doing good despite troubles. I might keep trying to fix the hard tail cause i liked its sound and I got nothing else to do. Maybe ill post more guitars. I'm trying to fix up/find one that i can sit on the floor with and still be plugged in.
>>
I decided I'm just going to play rock and folk on my nylon classical forever. I don't like classical music but I don't like the pain and uncomfiness of steel strings acoustic neither

I usually play with my thumb straight up in the middle of the neck. I did notice that i tend to pivot on it temporarily when im moving horizontally across the neck or trying to tremelo pick a higher or lower string using my pinky for one beat. my dude don't even worry about that.
have you tried lowering the action on your acoustic btw? well.. silk and steels will have lower tension anyways so you'll probably get the same effect as tightening your truss rod by switching

silk and steels are way too damn light for me

>have you tried lowering the action on your acoustic btw?
I didn't, I might try but I don't want to fuck my instrument up. I really find myself always picking my cheap 50€ nylon Lidl guitar instead of my Yamaha f310, it's so much easier on the fingers (and quieter too, it doesn't overpower my voice), the only problem is strumming because it sounds a bit flat on it

You boys really need to learn how to adjust your guitars. Your strings should be able to lightly grip a quarter at the 12th fret. Its not difficult, quarter turns check relief, keep going until its where u want it.

yea tighten the truss rod and see how much it helps, honestly it looks like you need to give it a few goes but just do like 1/4 a turn at a time to give the wood a chance to acclimatise

i mean i have like 16 guitars or somethinng so im not gonna post all of them xd but that one is one of my favs to play. but it needs to be a lil higher because it is sorta acoustic
>>
>>131141337
i mean, it affects the whole fretboard though not just past the 12th.
>>
>>131141222
what guitar is that btw? the finish looks extremely similar to a tanglewood acoustic from like 2003 that i have
>>
>>131141609
thats true but unless its absurdly high, how much it affects the height above the fret continuously decreases as it gets to the nut.
>>
>>131141628
that's true but also it's mechanically easier to depress the string in the middle compared to near the nut or bridge so in terms of tactile perception i think the effect is still significant.

But I guess you're right that for the first few frets the nut height is the more important factor, but usually they don't really need adjusting unless you're chhanging your setup significantly
>>
>>131141667
you arent wrong. ive seen people that will pretty much remove most of the saddle on a new $4k martin and slam their acoustic action into electric territory. it is objectively easier to play everywhere on the neck but id like to keep the original saddle as long as possible, so ill sacrifice some action as long as its within reason

12th fret won't intonate. Also, I think either the neck pocket is screwed up or. the neck itself. There was a small shim in the neck at the bottom. When I removed it, seemed like it help the intonation get closer to not being sharp, but it caused choked frets towards the bottom. I think the neck has issues and I can't really be bothered to waste money on a new neck or taking it to a luthier. I even tried making my own shims, but nothing helped. I legitimately give up.

years ago i accidentally broke my first bass, its ibanez sr300 dxf. it has that little eq knob that stacked and somehow when traveling (without a case of course) it just landed wrong on that stacked pot and bent it and it hasnt worked since. that was like 10 years ago and I haven't got around to fixing it. thinking about pulling it and giving it a go tomorrow. are ibanez basses harder to work on? im only familiar with jazz basses. this one seems to be a passive pickup with active electronics (eq preamp?). ive always hated the battery but i have considered just bypassing it so i dont have to deal with that
>>
>>131141924
plenty of guitars have shims from the factory to be honest. that's a shame though, I'm assuming you know what you're doing in regard to neck relief and bridge adjustment? if so it could just be that after the neck fuckup and shimming the bridge is no longer in the right relative position to be able to be intonated

one other thing you can do wrt intonation is changing string guage; heavier guage strings will go less sharp, so that might help if the difference is only small.

it's actually orders of magnitude better than the normal conversation

it's nothing special really, my first ever steel string acoustic. i was literally the same height as it when i first got it lol

there's still blood stains inside from one time i was busking in winter and my hands were numb from cold and i didn't realise i was shredding them up :x
>>
>>131142259
that looks normal. acoustics can't buzz and sound like shit with low action
>>
>>131142107
I'm not really an expert, but I can set up a guitar to play. I usually go for between .004 to .005, but ibanez recommends between .012 to .020
No neck relief change helped any of the lower choked notes. That's probably gotta be due to how the neck meets the body. IDK if it's related to the intonation issue

Oh, I didn't mention specifically, it's only the low e that has this problem with intonating. Everything else intonates fine. And it's not the strings. This is the third pack I wasted on this guitar.
>>
>>131142322
all guitar companies recommend gaped ass, hella relief because it gives them a little margin of error on the fretwork. Fender says .010, which is definitely on the high end.
I set my electrics dead straight, then loosen a quarter turn if there's any issues on the bottom of the neck.

>>131142303
