Second time redoing my board this week, added the EQ back on to boost some treble and cut some bass going into the compressor to really jangle out my bright guitars. I kept the volume pedal off the board for a long time because it’s such a pain finding the right placement for it where other pedals aren’t in the way and at risk of being hit when using it but I think I’ve got it well enough on the board now

What do people like there action at? I usually lazily just go by a nickel on the low e and a penny at the high e, then eyeball the rest on my tele. I can't stand fret buzz even if the luthier says it's not audible on the amp.

I just tend to go by sight and feel than anything else. The tech I'm forced to use when an issue arises that I can't sort out myself uses all the whizzy tools and measurements and invariably the guitar or bass ends up coming back with buzz because he's not taken into consideration any other element of the instrument except "xyz at the 12th fret".

Yeah, something like that. I've mentioned him a couple of times recently because I've had issues with set ups that have come back, but unfortunately the other 2 guitar shops in the city have closed down, so this one is all that's available if there's an issue outside of my ability (wood or electronics beyond basic harness wiring)
>>
>>131143959
like what? none of it is that hard, I guess there are some things that require special tools but they're usually cheaper than you would have to pay someone else to do the job. unless it's like, steaming off a set neck to reset it or repairing really bad structural damage i guess

i remember i took a guitar to a shop once when i was like 16 to get some electronics fixed (didn't have a soldering iron at the time). and when i went to pick ot up the two guitar techs were both jamming on my guitar and being all like 'whoah, how is this so nice to play?' just cause i had done a basic setup, after that i was kinda like loathe to ever pay money for guitar tech work again, don't think i have actually. but i guess, maybe you have more money and less time than i do, ive been a poor working musician most of my life haha

what is an evertune even for and why
my impression is that it's so you can play super low with super skinny strings. why not just use thicker strings
>>
>>131147291
trying to cover up the natural drawbacks of a tremolo bridge with expensive engineering
just bend until you hit the right note it’s not hard don’t rest your hands on the strings
>>
If you were going camping for four days would you bring a $2000+ Martin? I was asked to bring a guitar and it’s my only acoustic and I’m paranoid about bringing my D18 and having it go from hot to cold outside/in a tent/in my truck all weekend. I can go buy a cheap $300 Yamaha acoustic but I feel like that would be a waste of money once the trip is over and I’m back home with my Martin.

Does the perceived tension on the wound strings change? Assuming you had the same thickness and tuning on your previous set. I wanna try some flatwounds out but my HB guitar has a floating bridge so it might be a bother
>>
>>131147309
absolute not lmao
>>
>>131147291
it's just a new meme bridge, mostly used in modern fart string music. same with fishman pickups, one npc gets them and then all the other npc's upload the new programming
>>
For me, it's 10/48 flatwounds in D standard
>>
>>131147309
it’s fine if you bring a hard case. sunscreen and bug spray will destroy the finish instantly
>>
>>131147309
i would literally rather just go buy a yamaha. you can keep it in a different tuning after so it's not wasted or whatever
>>
>>131147364
i wouldn’t replace a Martin with a Yamaha, they have drastically different string spacing. get an Eastman Martin copy
>>
Is Yamaha underrated?
>>
>>131147311
well i previously had a custom set of dadarrio 12s with a wound 3rd, which was actually pretty similar guages to these. but i wanted to change to softer strings cause I'm pretty sure after next time the frets are worn out on this guitar it's gonna need a refret. the sound is kinda halfway between flatwounds and roundwounds, they're roundwound but pure nickel with a round core instead of hex like on most strings. they're mellow and smooth but still have a bit more zing than flats. for me it's really nice cause i always find normal rw strings sound too twangy and thin compared to my flats, these are a happy medium. tuned to E standard btw
>>131147321
damn I can't even stand 10s in E they must be soo loose in D. but u do u boo

>>
What are your three favorite genres to play? Mine are hard rock, metal and punk.
>>
>>131147400
Yes and no. Old models like the SG series from the 70's/80's are MIA Gibson quality. Modern ones aren't bad guitars at all, but there's no magic there and you're getting a mid-range production guitar with no magic.

>>131147400
Yamaha guitars are for poor people. The low end ones are just cheap imports and are the same garbage as every other cheap import and the higher dollar ones aren't worth bothering with since at best they're just knockoffs of good guitars. At that point you might as well just buy the real thing. They're also ugly across the board.
>>
Decided to try 9.5s. Anyone else used them before? Hopefully they're better than 10s with my shitty floating bridge.

Holy shit i just found out i can put presets on this bad boy. There are dozens of artist- made presets available and you can even make your own. I just tried out a couple, they sound sooooo good especially for ambient. I love that they have a completely different sound from stock presets. This feature alone makes the pedal worth the money imo.

The tubes still haven't died. I use a load box and IRs through monitors, not a cab, so I usually have the volume cranked
How long do tubes last? And can you change them yourself at home or is that dangerous?

best imo, if it came out of the actual Yairi factory it was entirely hand made even the soundboards are hand voiced which is only available on $5k+ instruments these days. kazuo yairi was a supreme autismo, they play loud music in a room full of guitars for 3 months to break them in before they ship.
>>
Is it worth upgrading an Ibanez Gio? Or would it be cheaper to just get a more expensive guitar?
>>
>>131147588
Not really, no. There are a few ok ones here and there but a standard Martin will still shit all over the better ones. The nips can make a good electric guitar but not so much when it comes to acoustics.

Keeps the strings in tune, maintains a set tension between the strings and the springs in equilibrium depending on how you set it. Supposedly you can smack a low tuned note as hard as you want without it going way sharp. Caveat though is that vibrato and bending is neutered with that, unless you fiddle with the mechanism to allow for it.

>>131147423

Things are not going well and this just adds to it. I don't even think I can record this weekend with my rc 600 busted. I am way too broke to fix any of this...but hey, at least it wasn't the black one. Tbh I feel kind of closure. I know you can fix these things but like damn I had this thing when I was in a group home, it's cool but when I got it I didn't know shit about pickups and now I don't really like P90s that much. I got the guitar cause it was the same colors as Shia LaBeouf's transformer, but I honestly feel like while it served me well, I should move on. Where can I sell/trade my collection of disabled guitars?

>>131152591
maybe a little of both. I think as long as it still sounds good to an audience the hard ones are more fun. I’ve realized that playing shit people actually like is the most fun and people like david grier that play weird and complex shit just because they can is boring and only other self-wanking instrumentalists in the know care about it. it’s like going to the gym and lifting just to get compliments from other dudes
>>
>>131152766
i just think the act of playing a challenging song is more stimulating, i get bored strumming chords even if people like it, i don't play for other people so i don't care what they like so i can't relate to that kind of enjoyment. for me trying to learn a pop song or something like that is so boring that i can't focus on learning it. when it comes to a challenging song it's like playing a video game you lose track of time with it and shit. and i really like the act of string skipping, it's bouncy and fun and it rarely happens in like a pop song or most stuff that is popular like a rock song that everyone knows.

that wouldn't be too hard to do yourself beyond the frets. at home electroplating is easy and metal pickguards are readily available. ofc gold plating fret wire wouldn't be hard (it'd wear crazy fast though), but you'd lose a decent amount of plating during the dressing process. gold tone fret wire (evogold) is a thing, but it's solid color all the way through (and is expensive). if you really want it to happen you can make it happen. follow your dreams or whatever
