Tube amps are a necessity for guitar. Solid state just lacks body and dynamic response, and no amount of tweaking knobs and buying pedals will fix that.
>>
>>131289706
I don't like audible breakup when I'm playing clean.
>>
>>131289706
Fact check: true
>>
>>131289706
solid state amps are convenient and sound almost as good. tube amps sound better but are less convenient. get one of both
>>
>>131289790
>almost as good
Cope
>>
>>131289852
in some use cases they sound better. recording, for example. especially outside of a professional studio environment. there's only one way to record a tube amp. modern amps have more options
>>
>people that don’t and will never gig talking about convenience
laughable

>Solid state just lacks body and dynamic response
Fixed entirely by using a 1300 watt JBL 15 inch PA speaker and a simulator. If I ever left my house this is exactly what I would use.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnSIrnlsfTU
>>
>>131289882
i agree. a rig that sounds exactly the same at home, on stage, or in your DAW is worth giving up on analog. your audience doesn't care about tubes
>>
Just had my first lesson in 18 years. It was helpful.
>>
>>131289882
people that actually play shows will just use a tube head into whatever speakers the venue already has or has provided. if you’ve actually made it you have a crew to pack and maintain all that shit so you’ll use tubes anyway
>>
Stomp boxes and sims are for people stuck spamming low-level gigs playing covers: they need the ability to get different sounds. Basically, they have no sound of their own.

His latest video was probably his most interesting one. He reacts to someone talking about how shitty it is to be a professional guitarist unless you are extremely successful.

Let me guess... you need more?
>>
>>131289963
the ideal guitarist lifestyle is retiring from a high-income job after casually learning jazz in your freetime and jamming with other old folks at the farmers market on sundays
>>
>>131289963
yeah being a musician is pretty fucking awful today. im lucky in that i can make $150 every sunday playing for 3 hours at a church and about 80% of saturdays i can play funerals and weddings and make another $300-500. almost all venues have a pa unless youre playing things like bars and restaurants (wallpaper music) and ill pack a discrete tube head that can run into those systems. i only want to be messing with my volume and tone knobs on the instrument once the show starts. recording studios already have their own equipment and you have to pay for the space anyway so might as well use those. almost all musicians i know that have won grammys are still teaching lessons or doing youtube for more stable, supplemental income. the other problem is that people dont want to spend money on entertainment like they used to. i suppose this digital age they expect sloppa to be free, and if you want to make it your music needs to be absolute nonsense that you didnt even write. listen to sleep token there is practically nothing going on musically. unfortunately i just really love playing music with other people so ill keep playing
>>
>>131289944
So no FX at all? Just 1? All music should sound like an archtop going through a JC120 or Princeton or something regardless of genre, or are you happy with tube saturation?
>>
>>131290249
just get an acoustic at that point. all acoustic instruments sound better than their electric counterparts
>>
>>131290308
i play with horn players an acoustic won't cut it. adjusting your tone to duck or lead isn't possible on acoustic

Do manufacturers set up the Floyd Rose radius before shipping them out? I know Floyds are usually 10 or 12 inch radius but I see them on guitars with 14 inch or with a 12-16 compound ones. I got done gluing down some of the fret ends on my main guitar, but the problem is now I have a few frets that need to be filed down and I don't have the stuff for it. The luthier I guess didn't bother gluing some of the fret ends down when he leveled, which is fucking great. Guess I shouldn't have glued them down, but I was worried they'd inevitably rise like the others. I haven't even put strings on yet to see how bad the buzz will be. I am so tired, and guess I'll have to order shit tomorrow for leveling. I hate living in this shit hole because people around here are so goddamn incompetent.

>>131293579
Do you even shim?
>>
>>131293582
I know, imagine buying any guitar where shimmering parts was a requirement. You see this on bolt-on necks all the time too, the neck and the body were cut out using a computer controlled lathe that cuts down to the mm, what possible excuse could there be to require a shim to make the neck sit in the neck pocket at the correct angle?
Same thing with the FR bridge, it's 2026 and all those parts are milled out the same way. The FR has been in need of a redesign for decades too but the company is so shit they haven't even tried
He'd be better just to avoid trash that the manufacturer couldn't be bothered to make right in the first place and get a tool worth owning that doesn't require all kinds of bullshit nigger rigging just to function correctly
>>
>>131293718

For some reason I thought Parker guitars had started to feature them before they went out of business but I can't find any pics of what I remember, maybe it was another brand of weird looking guitars and not Parker

It's basically this but for guitars with standard headstocks

Why do guitarists have such massive egos compared to piano players?
Every piano thread is someone quietly playing Bach. Every guitar thread is some guy with $5k worth of pedals he doesn't know how to use, making a hot take about why tone wood matters. Why are you guys like this? Why can't guitar players just be normal and silent instead of constantly screaming for attention?

actually there are some qc issues on the av2: strings are cutting into the fretboard behind the nut and tons of black overspray in the finish. the mij is nice I just really hate the pickup. it has way too much high mids; I would like something with nitro

labella deep talking flats or if I want rounds I use the labella Ian Martin Allison set. I really recommend them they’re like broken in rounds and smoother like flats. if you do try them clean them with some alcohol on a microfiber towel first; they are ground on a machine and sometimes some material gets stuck between the windings. they can be a bit sticky out of the packaging. playing them in will get rid of this but just skip it and clean them

was thinking about beers and getting drunk. It dawned on me that percentage of alcohol is a good indicator on how much a beer gets you drunk... BUT there are other factors.
As you're drinking a beer the alcohol, which is usually in the neighborhood of 5 percent, is what gets you drunbk.
But there is 95 percent of other shit in there like water and calories and whatever is in beer besides alcohol (nobody knows)
And I drink a lot, but I've noticed that for some reason, a 6 pack of tall boy Budweisers with 5 percent alcohol gets you drunker than a 6 pack of tall boy Coors banquet beer. Without fail. Is it the taste? Is coors skimping?

I honestly don’t know, it’s really frustrating. I thought the finished looked a little darker than normal on the Sweetwater photos but there was no way to know about the strings. the sad part is the entire batch looked like that. never had a problem with AV or AO before but something has gone seriously bad at fender over the last few years. also another reason I’m scared of buying the CS. there is nowhere within 3 hours of me that will ever have the model i want. It’s a 9 hour round trip to Sweetwater

buying guitars online is easy and gratifying but if you go to a store with 100 plus guitars to play like Guitar Center you will see how wildly different, good and bad the same model of guitar is. There are S tier MIM strats and dog tier, every year, same goes for whatever model. It's undeniable if you go play 4 or 5 of the same model of any guitar from squier level to Made in America.
Sweetwater is great for looks and having the weight in pounds. But when there are 4 cherry red SG's to choose from and you aren't factoring in "which plays and sounds the best" and only looking at 'lightest weight' or 'coolest woodgrain' you're neglecting the most important thing

every guitar center and mom and pop shop i've been to recently have "brand new" guitars on their walls with literally rust red strings and scratches all over them. i don't trust a single in person guitar. I've bought 5 now online only and they've all come in fantastic condition and all of them were infinitely more playable than anything I've ever touched at a physical location.

use learning songs to teach you technique, not the other way around. babies learn words before they learn the alphabet. learning guitar will not be fun if you don’t and you’ll likely burn out before you hit your goals. use the 3 tempo method: slow for cleaning up technique and developing and correcting cognitive processes, rehearsal tempo where you make 5% or less mistakes, and a fast tempo about 20% faster than that to build speed and expose where you need to work on your technique

I think dr nitros solution of sticking them in a refrigerator overnight is better, as it results in longer and more varied cracks in the finish. the cold from the air can method is so localized that it will only do spiderweb cracks which really is not common at all on true relics. whats cool is that nitro will heal itself the first 2-3 times you try to relic it like this

Damn bro, how's your liver? My worst was about 6-7 beers in one night, some of them the stronger ones. Before I switched to beer though I was drinking about a litre of wine a day though I mix it with mineral water. Honestly would have preferred to stay on wine but I got used to the good homemade stuff and the store bought sucked in comparison. And before that I was on weed which was my favourite to be honest. Too hard to get though. Playing guitar while high is such a surreal experience though, I love it.

are squier basses probably the best quality cheap basses? I have this 100 dollar rogue violin bass thing I bought a long time ago but it's kinda shitty and I want to buy one I can use for recording. yeah I’ve had about 6 of them. other people always end up liking them more than me so I sell them. they have great bones but definitely get a setup and a fret level if you can afford it or do it yourself. if you want to slap. if you’re just going to pick or play finger style you don’t need that low of action and can skip fret level
