I'm trying to learn standard notation instead of relying on tabs. Pic related is from a youtube tutorial.Now, the tab has you playing an open A string (bass note) and the 5th fret of the B string for the first beat.However, in the notation above the tab, it shows the bass note as having a line through it. The E at the top makes sense, but what the fuck is the note below it? the position makes it look like a D to me, but that doesn't make any sense because it doesn't match the tab.
