I’ve already got a Gibson Songwriter that scratches my rosewood back and sides itch and a mahogany D18 just seems different enough that it’ll compliment nicely. martins have a lot more bass and the d28s are more scooped than anything else on the market save for maybe a collings. despite being rosewood the songwriter will sound closer to a d18 than a d28 imo. martins are a lot warmer sounding than anything else on the market

My first attempt at writing a song. Not sure if I want it at 120bpm for something slammy or 180bpm for more of a grindcore sound. Definitely gonna try recording it soon.

it was kind of spooky getting feedback from someone who was that good, because he clocked me 100%. I just had him analyze my picking technique without really saying anything else and everything he said that would hold me back and how it would affect my playing was exactly what I was going through without even bringing it up. I didn’t have enough follow through on my picking, was trying to minimize my movements so I didn’t hit wrong strings

>I didn’t have enough follow through on my picking, was trying to minimize my movements so I didn’t hit wrong strings

Fucking interesting. What did he teach you regarding that?
I watched the Dweezil Zappa interview on Rick "Namedrop" Deadbeato the other day and he was mentioning the picking technique of Eddie. How he was holding it differently. But I didn't understand. The only advice I have picked (no pun intended) so far was by Ben "I was a fat kid in school" Eller who said support your index with your middle.
>>
I prefer the tone and feel of old strings. I change them twice a year
>>
>>131408816
let me start by saying I’m learning bluegrass which is a lot of fast paced strumming and alternate picking, but on the strong beats you play your bass notes, and you may need to switch from one to the other quickly, so it requires a degree of accuracy also. ignoring the way Eddie holds the pick which was a little odd, he recommended something similar to the way Eddie tremolo picks by only rotating his wrist or forearm depending on how technical you want to get. he told me to just start with that and slowly flatten the wrist and keep narrowing down how many strings you’re strumming until your down to 1 basically. the technique does 3 things: takes the tension out of your picking hand, and the momentum gives you both power (volume to compete with other acoustic instruments) and the ability to get through the strings at higher speeds without it feeling like a brick wall. I think I was working backwards: going for accuracy first then trying to work in the fluid motion, should’ve been the other way around.

>Eddie tremolo picks by only rotating his wrist or forearm depending on how technical you want to get.

But how else would you tremolo pick?

I don't know how Eddie was picking, that's why I said I didn't understand.

So what he said was keep your wrist immobile? Pick like you tremolo pick? Is that what flatten the wrist means?
Thanks for replying by the way.

>>131408993
also to answer your question it was basically single note pick like I strum, but you need to bring your hand in closer to the strings because it’s more accurate. flattening your wrist (arm) will naturally bring it closer to the guitar when using this particular technique
>>
>>131409047
>some basic bitch technique any retard would be able to figure out naturally

>>131414623

>>
>>131414461
That's what I'm saying, the chord is the Amaj in all but the root note. Instead of putting my index on the fifth fret of the low E, I let the E ring
>>
>>131414969
if you zoom in on inversions in music you can say “oh yeah that is actually an XYZ chord” but it’s more common for inversions to be used as chromatic movement or pedal points for the bass. the bass line for living on a prayer is a pedal point, although all chord changes are technically inversions. a lot of the motown stuff is just chromatic movement. but as the music is written say C/G, all the bass instruments play G and everyone else plays C.
>>
>>131415011
to add you should really experiment with trying to turn inversions into harmonically different chords but in my experience trying to connect the two things typically takes all the tension out of the music and doesn’t sound as good. the bass moving around a lot during inversions doesn’t sound very good either

I am talking specifically about the turn-around in You Can Leave your Hat On, the part where the backup singers sing "you can leave your hat on" and the saxophonist plays a little lead, I hear it as an Asus4 and then Amaj but with/over an open E, so I let the open A ring while scratching the A and D double stop on the D and G strings respectively, then hit the open low E and play the rest three notes of an Amaj
>>
>>131415438

because that's what things cost. $1800 sounds like a lot when you're comparing it to things you can afford, like a case of beer or a t-shirt. a decent road bike is around $1200. a mid-range camera is around $1500. a 5080 is around $1500. get a job
