bought my first real bass today. Not anything crazy it was like 370 but blows my old one out of the water. I was hoping for just a P bass but couldnt find anything at the store I went to and didnt feel like going to another store. I have played around with it and have decided I just am never using the jazz pickup most likely just simply dont care for it. Love the thumpy sound of the P pickup.
>>131485776I’m still eating, then I’m gonna smoke and then I’ll post pictures, give me like an hour.
>>131485765lol but that wouldn't be funny daw/gg/
>>131485828Turn the P volume all the way down, turn the jazz all the way up, turn the tone down about 10% and boost the mids on your amp. Now pick between the jazz pickup and the bridge. Thank me later.
>>131485856jesus that’s way too much mids
>>131485765Here, you dumb autistic bastard. Bookmark this link. You can go back and look at every guitar general ever posted in sequential order. There have been almost 6000 of these dogshit guitar generals. You might want to to think about what you're doing with your life.
>>131485870A P bass pickup has more mids than a normal jazz bass. That’s the thump sound. When you boost the mids and solo the jazz bridge you get that up front in the mix sound that is recognizable by modern standards. The greatest flaw of the PJ bass is the fact it should have been setup like a 60s jazz with a switch in between to go from Jamerson Motown to Jaco jazz.

>>131489673if you get to make up all the rules why did you even bother asking in the first place? guitar is too weak to play inversions on its own. play the Am on guitar and play the F on bass like it’s supposed to and then you’ll be able to appreciate the difference

>>131489799maybe you should read your own posts if you want to find out who is being a cunt
>>131489815no difference in tone but not as reliable as a soldered connection. contacts can get corroded, connector can have loose fit, wires can get fatigued where they go into connector. more work retrofitting them into a classic wiring harness than it would be to just solder in new components

had my bass for all of 20 hours and I am having as much fun playing it and learning as I did when i first picked up guitar. hoping to be good enough at both to be able to slot into either role with ease
I'm pretty sure I could satisfy all my desires to play bass by just doing it every time I go to guitar center.
>>131491001bass is so easy i had never picked one up and i could still cover for our bass player when he was gonemade me realize how fucking hard guitar is why did we sign up for this shit
>>131491198I get like the basics for bass are way easier than the basics for guitar like even now with not too much practice I could probably be "serviceable" on the bass doing blues and pop songs, but the more complicated bass stuff is way different than more complicated guitar stuff. Not saying advanced bass is harder than guitar but I cannot just pick up a bass and start doing crazy slapping or anything insane. Also probably couldn't just pick up a bass and do some crazy jazz lines even if I could do them on guitar. From my limited exposure to bass feels like the floor is way lower than guitar but it like branches out enough to be different enough from guitar that a really good guitar player couldn't pick up a bass and be like a really good bass player. also just feels like you could be a performing bass player way easier than a performing guitar player.
>>131491472no one can hear the bass anyway so it doesn't matter. when the bass starts doing anything besides holding down the rhythm the audience groans
>>131491198>and then everyone clappedSure buddy and it didn't even bother you that the frets are spaced almost double the width apart either, amazing.
>>131491555>arguing that it is hard, actuallysays more about you than me if you find it difficult
>>131489452Diet, support himself
>>131491198its easy if all you want to do is play root notes. but playing straight 4s and 8s with no movement makes for boring as fuck songs that all feel the same (metal, punk, country). the composing methodologies between guitar and bass are so drastically different also, i think primarily because of all the responsibilities the bass player has. you have to tie the rhythm and the harmony together, outline the chords, and if youre a really good bass player signal to the band when the changes are coming up, as well as provide the entire feel of the song such as a counterpoint melody etc and keep driving the song forward. if bass wasnt important the rest of the band wouldnt always be trying to dictate what it should play like >>131491505
>>131491472thats true but there is very little room for mistakes as a bass player. if you cant keep time you are fucking gone immediately. no one really cares if the guitarist is sloppy
Alright, who left? Thread has been dead all day.
>>131491922schizo MIA and nobody crying about eric's boogie
don't summon him
>>131491751that's also true, I think bass is like a mix almost of guitar and drums where it's still you still are playing the notes along the chord progressions for the song but are forced to stay in time. half the time if a guitar is sloppy or out of time the audience doesnt even notice or care. and drums honestly are strictly time keepers I doubt most people would notice if a drummer was playing something super complex and interesting compared to the most basic beat possible for the song.
>>131492152Is there like a bat signal for this?
>>131492347your bitchass ain't getting the key to it
>>131492171yeah there’s a video of some black drummer with dreads I think I can’t find it. but people are glazing him and all he is doing is playing hot licks, so much so that the song has no pocket and it actually just sounds terrible. bass and drummer should always have a good creative relationship and feed off eachother; it leads to great music.
>>131492525also I know it’s fun to meme here but as a guitarist you should pray you get a really strong rhythm section that is laying down a great groove because that gives you almost unlimited freedom as a soloist and makes your playing sound better. if you’re about to solo over some straight ahead 4/4 shit you have a microscope on you and no direction. that’s why I highly advise people here to work on their timing in some capacity
Name an iconic bass line.Oh you CAN'T because nobody can hear the bass.
>>131492579I will say I enjoy a great rhythm section with meh guitar over an ok rhythm section with a great guitar. I LOVE guitar but I will say the music The Band made was better than 99% of bands with guitar heavy songs. Robbie Robertson genuinely was no better than a 15 year old who was taught the minor pentatonic pattern. Like literally all his lead work is just that and it's not very great. The rhythm section was so tight though that it made up for it and more. A great rhythm section can make up for bad guitar but a great guitar can't make up for a bad rhythm section.

You guys know more than me, but can someone tell me if the guitar in the intro is using distortion, overdrive, or fuzz? I’ve got an overdrive, and my strat sounds similar, but idk if it’s that or maybe in the song, they’re using a Les Paul or something. I’m just trying to learn more about this stuff and all, ok? Give me a break please.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=H0Jg3gp7cNw&list=RDH0Jg3gp7cNw&start_radio=1&pp=ygUKYm9uZyBzcXVhZKAHAQ%3D%3D
I sold my Squier. I miss it. I really thought I loved that guitar... from its spec sheet to its appearance... the way it sounded like what I could imagine a Telecaster sounding like. I really thought it was cool. And I'm not sad that I added a used Squier to the available instruments at my local guitar store... I hope it ends up with someone who can appreciate it. I learned a bit... but I learned mostly about myself, and my limits. And honestly, I just don't think I want to perform a Telecaster sounding song. I like the middle and neck positions of a Stratocaster guitar, from what I've gathered. It's just... nice.So I don't know when I'll play again, because I'm realizing that I'm allowing myself to be picky... and instead of just finding something that works, or even works well, I feel as though I need to stop dragging my feel and finally give the Stratocaster a shot. The most obvious complaint is that a Stratocaster is generic for an electric guitar choice. But its clean sound just speaks to me... and I would even go so far as to say I am almost certain that I'll bond with an HSS strat.Thanks.
>>131496339F
>>131496312sounds like a tele in drop d with fuzz. fuzz sounds very fuzzy, distortion is smooth and fat, overdrive sounds like you laid 2 guitars over top of eachother
>>131496384Thanks friend. I’ve recently found a new love for my strat. I’m thinking about getting a fuzz pedal and eventually a tube amp. It’s kinda cool single coils are capable of heavier stuff. idk what you call it, but I love melodic stuff like that.
as a poorfag i got recived a 4 string pj bass guitar as a gift. Where do i start?
>>131496426>bassyou must learn to play the Dipstick Lick, it's a rite of passagehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNPY27wThw0
>>131496426I also did get this and cable with guitar. But i have no idea where to start. I did see guys on reddit recommending bassbuzz but 200 usd way to much for me
>>131496426if you can afford it do bassbuzz beginner to badass. it is a great course that is easy to follow and will set you up for success I promise. I finished it about 5 years ago
>>131496406fuzz adds a ton of body because it’s the same information just more of it. you can cop a tele sound on your strat just select the bridge picking and pick very close to the saddles. good luck and Godspeed. I could be wrong on what that guitar is btw that’s just my best guess

>>131487806Depends on the sound you want, anon.Mostly >>131487812, though. The octave makes the sound a bit too muddy for most stuff that I play. Just fifth+root feels way more direct and punchy. But once again, both have their uses.
I'm waiting for amp time to see if the EP boost stays on the board or if i change it's internal settings again.

>>131497416is there a trick to it? i can't play like that even though i've learned power metal style alternate picking
>>131496339Well, that happens sometimes. We've all passed good guitars on. That's just how you find out what your preferences are. Try playing to your Strat strengths now, anon. Work with what you have. That said, I vastly prefer the Tele middle position, personally. And Strats just sound way too quacky for me.

>>131498097Thanks. I was listening to the roos and one had a backing track, so that led me to the yt rabbit hole of ai backing tracksMost were pretty safe and boring but tf one already ripped off GG's Wonderful Slippery Thinghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rU2elfUInk0But my hands weren't up to snuff yet so I chose that elevator BT rip off of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBy7FaapGRo as it had the modulating key change thing before the progression repeats
>>131498115Yeah I think it's good to filter at least 6 years back if you want to avoid the ai slop. But sometimes, at least for jazz there are channels that feature real musicians playing anything but the head/lead

hai......is there any /gg/ approved guitar practice routine?i just kinda strum chords now. i can play a bunch of easy songs, and that's pretty much it.i mainly want to get better at the mechanics, you know? like picking speed and coordination, so i can play some more difficult stuff.i don't really care much about music theory. i know the basics, but i don't care about going much deeper into it.

I have trouble strumming especially at a quicker tempo, my pick also tends to angle to the side as I go on.
