was trying to dial in my helix yesterday to get the guitar tone more tight and less harsh. couldnt find anything to appease what i was looking for, it was exhausting and im back to square one. i am most likely making it more difficult than it needs to be, but i just need a guitar tone that doesnt sound like shit when i play it on other devices.

(technically)it’s been essential to my mix flow for months now and the standard subtle move is to change the mix as opposed to the range- how is that different from the range?my understanding (based on abletons (or any) ring mod) was always that mix was analogous to changing the amplitude of added signal, so how is compactor playing a clean signal side by side the ducked signal?

Listen to the soundtrack a bit more and pay attention to how the different instruments/layers are balanced and copy it best you can, your dynamics are all over the place. Also, there's interviews with Stuart Copeland that talks about his process as well, shows him in the studio and what gear he used etc., could be handy.
