Carry some bag that you can crush into your pocket, pull out bag, uncrush it, put helmet in bag.

Now you are just a person carrying stuff in bag like 90% of people in towns/cities.

And you want soda's, beers, snack bars, a box of food or something? And you want to save it for when not near town?
Well now you have a helmet bag to carry that stuff too.

I've done weeklong tours, commuted for years, and now I'm a regular 150 mile/week roadie. I don't wear one and I never will. If I was racing I would, but that's it.

When mountain biking? Always. When riding with other people? Always. When riding to the store or to work? No. Helmets are just one more kind of protective gear, and like anything else we adjust the gear we wear according to the activity we're doing. The only time I think there's a question in my mind is for road cycling, which is a low risk activity, but on the other hand a helmet can actually be more aero than no helmet... I've also ridden easily 50,000+ road miles with nothing but a cycling cap but I wear a helmet for this too since I've got a couple nice ones already, so I might as well use them.

balding is caused by hair follicle growth cycle that's vulnerable to DHT in the normal male endocrine cycle
helmet wearing may aggravate hair loss in its further stages but is decidedly not the cause
>>
>>1962933
it will however reduce the g-load on your braincase/brain as ypur head hits the ground
bike accidents that are fatal/serious usually are precisely because of head injuries
wearing a helmet is worth it as it can prevent negative outcomes
you'd find it ridiculous for a person using an angle grinder to not wear eye protection because "hey if that thing shatters bad enough the goggles wont help me"

On roads basically always. Road quality is variable around me, plus cars, plus foot traffic. I am less worried about it saving me from a oncoming semi and more concerned with having to dodge into a bad spot or brake unexpectedly.
On dedicated paved trail, I don't feel like I really need it but often times I have it because I eventually have to hit road. Or light dirt.
On light single/double track I know that I'm underbiking it so I wear the helmet. It already saved me once, fell off a hill and stopped myself with my limbs and my bike with my helmeted head.
The exception is forest roads, gravel paths, rail, and canal trail. The traffic is minimal, the terrain is comfy, and the elevation isn't insane. If it is a big downhill on a gravel road I will put the helmet on but then I just take it right off to hang on the handlebars. I usually try to bike to wherever I want to ride but sometimes it's worth hopping on the train or driving to get to the good completely separated trail.
>>
I will never understand the weird motorcycle helmet shitposting on /n/. No one, anywhere, is wearing a motorcycle helmet to ride a bicycle, but more importantly, no one believes that anyone, anywhere is wearing a motorcycle helmet to ride a bicycle. Truly a strange choice of shitpost.

>>
Yeah after I fractured my skull (collapsing like a card tower out of nowhere) and got small bleeds on the brain while being totally unconscious lying in the road. I broke my collar bone of course but that was minor in comparion.

Maybe the dual sport/ adventure bike helmets provide better air, but a chinbar is a great idea. most head injuries on bikes invole the chin

This is accurate.
In the past i've been forced off the road multiple times during night rides. Now, whenever i ride my bike at night, I usually mount a 7000 lumen flashlight to my handlebars in addition to my regular bike light. Whenever i get the feeling that oncoming cars are trying to push me off the road on purpose, i turn the dial up to full power and keep it on until I have passed them. They usually brake and or return to their lanes.

I rode with no helmet for years, and suddenly I got a "fast bike" and that sentiment changed.

People close to me nag the shit out of me when I just want to go for a cruise without a helmet. I know my path to work / neighbourhood, so it seems unreasonable.

But conversely, I'd be worried if they didn't wear one.

other than looking like a fag (you already do, you are riding a bicycle) i can't really think of a reason not to wear one.

I'm really surprised to see people not wearing helmets especially people who ride the ubiquitous electric scooters that go pretty fast nowadays. I see grown men like in their 40s who are probably fathers, in professional attire, who don't wear helmets. Young retards I can understand. But it seriously blows my mind to see adults not wearing them. I honestly cannot even think of a reason not to wear them if you're a father, you have a decent career. These electric scooters go fast enough and are sensitive enough, you could hit something and fly off it going 15-20 mph. What the fuck are you doing.

when I was 12 I was tboned kind of hard and my head hit the ground and I immediately lost conciousness and a lot of brain cells. It's been over 20 years ago and my head has been fucked since I was a kid so I wear a helmet since
>>
Yes, ever since I saw what my mom's traumatic brain injury did to her.
>>
I've been saved by my helmet three times, but never during joyrides, only while commuting to work during winter.

Should be the other way round.
You are faster on bike trails this more likely to hit your head.
On the street if some idiot bumps into you'll most likely land on his car

27 professional racers died during a race in the years since 2003, when UCI made helmets mandatory. These 27 are excluding known cardiac causes.
12 racers died in the two decades prior to this rule, including Andrey Kivilev which triggered this uci rule.
Medical care and knowledge about the brain has increased during this time. But so has the number of cyclists.

I used to not do it, but now I'm a dad of two and want to set a good example for them. I also aged out of trying to look cool, I don't try to impress anyone, but since I'm /fit/, chicks do stare when I bike by shirtless in the sun with my little lad in the trailer behind me. You know what's more gay than wearing a helmet? Drinking all your meals out of a straw because you're a vegetable.

might just be Italian seat hight
>iirc locked knee with heel slightly below forefoot
>>
>>2012178
Nope, BITD you were sized on frames differently. The classic "fist full of seatpost" or standover the bike(with the riding shoes) and lift it up. If you got an inch-2inches from the ground on each wheel it fits.

This is also why you might see many vintage frames in larger sizes, they sized them taller back then, and since the stems were mostly one height(no nitto technomics) you wanted enough stack to run the stem up, or slammed.

Modern bikes always look weird to me.
>>
>>1960158
Yeah, it saved me from potential brain damage. I tend to ride off-road on uneven terrain and I can reach some fast speeds sometimes. Plus, I don't trust the motorists around me; if I were to slam my head from a collision, then at least my head isn't going to go straight into the front of some retards 4x4.
>>1960161
Don't buy a faggot-shit helmet then, you fucking casual.

I don’t know if you guys watch or have heard of the show “hard knocks” about the nfl, but I was watching the second to last episode and one of the players had this emotional story about how he was hit by a car on his bike when he was 9 years old, broke bones, in a coma for two weeks, almost died. He’s crying while retelling it, how scared he and his family were, etc.

He’s telling this story on the backdrop showing him riding a bike around on streets, while wearing no helmet. The retardation is unbelievable
>>
>>1995556
> riding on a bike trail? No helmet.
Riding on a "bike lane" WITH CARS? Helmet.
So you recognize the value and safety that a helmet provides, wearing them in some situations, but still refusing to wear them in others? So you’re not an idiot who won’t wear one because it “looks dumb” or “messes up my hair” because you do wear them, so what reason is there to not wear one in all biking situations?
>>
>>1974162
Update: I got clipped by a car and now I always wear a helmet
>>
in my younger HS and college days I never wore a helmet. I was coming of age in the height of the whole fixie dirtbag indie sleeze era and no one wore helmets back then. I am so lucky that nothing happened given how reckless we were.

I never stopped riding but once I got a nicer all-road/gravel type bike it put me on the path of revamping and maturing my whole approach and now I don't even go for a test ride around the block without my helmet on. I see parents with little kids out on our greenbelt trails with no helmets and it's genuinely upsetting to see how irresponsible they're being with their children. They're not even 'poor and ignorant' types who don't know better, they probably actually just think wearing a helmet is gay and for pussies.
>>
>>2017034
i pretty much always see kids wearing helmets if theyre with their parents. when kids are biking alone, especially the blacks who are doing wheelies, biking in the dark with no lights, etc. they never wear helmets. i wish i could see many of these kids brains splattered on the road.
