some of this doesn't look too offensive, are bike shop guys really disgusted by me when I roll my plastic fredmobile in with sharktoothed everything?
>>2041285entertaining.how do you explain what work you're going to do without offending them for doing something idiotic? is it even possible?
>>2041302when the chain gauge doesn't just fall through but ends up in the middle of the next link, yes.
>>2041311I don't. I tell them that I'll fix it and how much it'll cost, approximately. Then they can accept or leave.
What in the fuck. Can you at least put in 10% fucking effort and explain what the image is/what’s wrong? Fuck, man, it’s just an image dump. Fuck am I looking at. What’s wrong with lightning bolt spokes.
>>2041342If you can't understand what's going on, despite how simple a bicycle is mechanically, then this thread is way above your autism level
>>2041342Those spokes have no pattern. They were threaded in randomly. And when they were too long to fit into the remaining holes, the owner made that lightning bolt so they'd fit.
>>2041342>it’s just an image dumpyou're on an image board
My local bike shop is just a rented building with a massive pile of bikes The guy that owns it looks like a wizardHe buys 100% of his stuff from homeless people so his prices are 4x cheaper than any other shop
>>2041345damn ok>>2041351thanks effortposter please spoonfeed me on some more of them>>2041366dubs wasted on a sperg that can’t understand some people need context with their images. unfortunate
>>2041312bike shop guy:>nooooo you can't have shark toothed cogsme:>ok fine new cassettebike shop guy;>noooooo you can't just mix a new cassette and an old chain, the cc-2 says 0.25!!!!me>ok fine new chainbike shop guy:>nooo.... admit it you just want me to buy a new bike
>>2041376well no shit, if you don't maintain shit, shit breaks, and breaks shit around it too
>>20413762 options:either replace your chain when the gauge tells youor run the drivetrain into the ground, then replace it entirelyOption 2 is actually cheaper, but you'll have sub-par efficiency and a lot of noise for most of the drivetrains lifespan.
>>2041299Creative
Great thread! I get the rest but what is going on here? >>2041288Feels like like the pic has left out the bigger part of the story.
>>2041296Nice ball bearing grease to grinding paste transmute I must say
>>2041534Pic related is what it should look like. The customer guessed where the brake cable should go in, guessed wrong, and instead of googling tried to make it work somehow by threading the cable through a washer. When the cable is fixed on the other brake arm, I guess the calipers might wiggle a bit and maybe even touch the rim if you pull really hard.As is tradition, the customer insisted it was like that, he did nothing, and it's my fault his brakes suck.
I'm not even mad, I'm intrigued
>>2041600I should take a picture of some of my shitty bikes and the horrible things I've done to them.

loving this thread

>>2041919be sure to properly lube the knob for smooth riding
>>2041854That's more weird than horrible, though?Or is the chainstay pulley mount the fucked up part because it's liable to crush the frame without a shaped block beneath the u-bolts?
>>2044946The idea is weird. The execution is horrible.
>>2041285Wat?
i ain't paying you to whine on 4chan wagienow get back to fixing my bike, it better not be late
>>2041375God you are a retarded nigger aren't you >>2041376You are also a fucking moron
>>2041600>>2041839whats the use case?using the front brakes with one hand on the bars? insane
>>2045053Fixie with a front brake only for rare emergencies, trying to preserve the look of a handlebar without brake lever (and utterly failing)
>>2045062Lots of 'legality levers' here in my area because the police are so butthurt they'll even stop you for just riding a bike and search for imaginary electric motors and all that shit. I'll see if I can dig a few pix up and will also dump some more because this thread is in need of more content and less retards fighting.
>>2045065The will let the motorist get away with everything while probably blaming the victim but god forbid someone is on a bicycle. Something must be up, probably lost your license DUI or be unemployed.I saw a brake lever on a chainstay once, making it a foot brake I guess.Have a unicycle.

>>2045652Thats got to be spring fork. No way it's failed to still be a spring fork. Why the hose clamps? Methhead lockout? Has the lowers somehow started to separate from the stanchions?

>>2045067Took me a while to come up with a pic showing it
>>2047331I mean, as an emergency brake you only use if your chain breaks, it's marginally better than the alternative (wedging your foot between the rear wheel and chain stays).
>>2047346yeah, I mean if you're going to take your foot off the pedal anyway, why not skip the brake with the tiny tip of the lever you have to target in an emergency and just go for the big enchilada?
>>2047369Specially when the brake cable doubles back on itself in the space of 3 inches like that, jesus, just thread it in backwards

>>2047346>>2047369>>2047372I thought I had originally exained this. >>2045065'legality levers'.This brake won't see use even in an emergency, the guy will just ted shred because that's what you do when reflexes kick in.But:'Officer it DOES HAVE two independent braking systems'
>>2045067Yesterday I ended up in an inadvertant pack with a guy on a colnago and a lady on a S works and a boomer on a festka and we got jammed up in some traffic with a nissan shitbox with expired paper tags and the driver was loudly complaining about "bikers being on the RRRRROOOOOAD" (and not on the sidewalk), the irony of a dirtbag whose stolen car cost less than the front wheel of one of the bikes he was bitching about was delicious, I don't even have anything against cagers let alone poor people but don't act entitled and whine about muh road tax when you're driving a stolen car
>>2044948Cable actuator for hydraulic rim brakes? Any overall picture to judge the "adapter"?
>>2041898They didn't have teflon-lined cable housings and cables we have now, slick enough to run in one piece all the way from shifter to rear derailleur and still shift shit, so they had to minimize housing usage to just the derailleur itself where it's almost unavoidable. Bare cable goes out of downtube shifters, runs parallel to the downtube (duh), gets turned around via sliders, rollers or a very short run of housing, then runs bare parallel to the chainstay and enters the scratchy tube of doom to the derailleur.
