Not a single fucking shop in Ontario wants to touch electric stand-on kick scooters for any reason. I'm not going all the way to Toronto to fix a single wiring issue that killed the throttle after driving through an ankle-deep puddle. Google keeps bringing up Durham E-Bikes Sales and Service which specifically says in their website "SORRY WE DO NOT SERVICE STAND-ON KICK SCOOTERS". What is with these things that make repair shops so scared of them? With how popular they are getting there are gonna be a LOT of angry stranded scooter users when they start breaking down.
>>2048187Because most of those things are made to be disposable e-waste products from China that you ride once and never touch again, they're not made to be serviceable
>>2048189And yet there would be a big untapped market for those who wanted to try and service them. Literally leaving money on the table by not even trying to fix these things.
>>2048187>What is with these things that make repair shops so scared of them?
>>2048253There's your path to being a billionaire then. :DD
>>2048187Because they'll burn down an apartment complex and then you're liable for $30m. If you charge what anyone would be willing to pay you're going to make a loss on insurance alone.
>>2048187Just do it yourself? Its just 2 wheels with a hub motor, a speed controller and a battery anon.
Because escooter owners are retarded and bike shop owners don't want to deal with you whining over any potential setbacks or the cost of repairs.
>>2048290>here's the estimate for a new battery>that costs more than I paid for the scooter!>I know, that's why you need a new battery>shocked_pikachu.gif
>>2048291I bet OP doesn't even know how to replace an inner tube. lol
>>2048187>>2048253>What is with these things that make repair shops so scared of them?Because most chinese-made devices lead to the exact scenario when you take them to the repair shop>hello there Mr. Repair Man who repairs things, I would like you to repair the shitty chinese thing I got from amazon or aliexpress>that might be difficult as these wholesalers do not have much of a repair system or spare parts distribution network, but I will see what I can do. Initial repair quote is at [insert amount of money]>WHAT KIND OF SCAM IS THIS, [amount of money] is twice what I paid for the entire thing, I am going to buy a new oneAnd that's not even bringing up the liability that is your workshop warranty on a device that is designed in every way to stop working and be replaced rather than fixed and >>2048263 too.
Wow guess i'm -600 dollars then I'll just put the shit on the curb thanks faggots.
Last time I come to this dogshit board btw enjoy your circlejerking over bicycles
>>2048327>>2048329You're the fag with the escooter retard. Kill yourself
You have to be either underage or a really sad lazy fuck to ride something that goes 15 miles per hour at most with a range of like 15 miles instead of just riding a bike that goes way faster for a miniscule amount of extra effort and has virtually infinite range. I understand there is a real niche for shit like this but it also invites retards like OP who think they have a legitimate transportation solution and not just some Chinese toy
>>2048429Where I live most people who ride escooters are teenagers. One of the few times I saw an adult on one he went on the sidewalk and sped through an intersection with a car coming. The meme is real. Bunch of retards.
I'm an ebike fag and even I look down on scooter fags>Hit a tiny rock>Die
>>2048431I respect e-bike fags because e-bikes are generally more serviceable and have real world utility and most e-bikes aren't just chinese toys, but I can't stand how they're always compared to non-ebikes. The two aren't the same thing, a bicycle is a human powered vehicle that's designed for efficiency, an e-bike is like a stopgap between a bike and an electric moped
>>2048187I fixed such thing for a friend. His was a name brand thingy. It was a pain to work on and cknstruction and quality were such that I can relate to repair shops refusing to work on them. In the chinese factory they onl, need to assemble it once. So if say some thread was cut wonky they'd just try anyways, do 'er up and if she holds thats abother finished product. Now knock on wood. But taking it apart again might mean it's never coming back together. If the environment those exist in where more akin to bicycles: Frame manufacturers make parts that need to go together with standardized components etc. id expect the quality to be better but the price higher. The design of those things really is analogous to the typical rental bike thing.
>>2048429>sad lazy fucknigger the one I use can go 40km max and when I get 20k steps in at work no shot I'm blowing out my knees riding a bike just to get to work, zoomer bikefags are cringe, scooters are the future
>>2048518>when I get 20k steps in at work no shot I'm blowing out my knees riding a bike just to get to work,Translating your monkey units to Freedom Units gives me 12 milesMy guy, I literally just got back from a 20 mile ride to the fucking beach bro, and that's one wayYou are a sad lazy fuck, you don't need an E-scooter, you need a mobility scooter.
>>2048518>20k steps at workOnly fat people use steps as a metric for personal fitness. You fat bastard
>>2048533That is not true, my 79 year old mother measures steps because her doctor said she's not allowed ti ride bikes or run anymore because if she falls she's going to break a bone. You don't know how old anon is, maybe they're pushing 80
>>2048518>e-scooter rider calling someone else a nigger
>>2048543Shut up fatty McFatcunt, fatmiester general of Fatsville.
>>2048676It's a fair point though, the diverse ride fatbikes now.
>>2048543>mostly true observation>"but what about this outlier example?"Come on now...next you'll tell me fitness freaks also count steps because they watched a jeff nippard video one time. >>2048676Generational retardation has really done a number on escooter riders
>>2048253>And yet there would be a big untapped market for those who wanted to try and service them. lolI bet you want to fix tv's too
>>2048187Russian here. We used to have a LOT of kulibins trying to fix these shits. Most of them kept accumulating dead unsalvageable boards and BMS-es, vaults of questionably good 18650s that are not cost effective to test, and broken structural components that you can only get by buying a brand new one of these. You know what was common practice for quite a few models of e-scoots? Etching down the fucking solder mask off the driver board and tinning the fucking traces to let them pull that little bit more amperage without immediately blowing up. You know what that lead to? Them still blowing up, but now at higher loads, thus putting you into more danger. That's the reason scoot manufacturers started putting dick brakes on these, not to make you brake better, but to safeguard you from suddenly finding yourself with no brakes when it inevitably does blow up.Eventually most of these guys went back to fixing bicycles and monowheels and never touching scoots again, the few who remained became rental scooter techs who couldn't care less about your black piece of trash, they have their hands full already.E-bike can't break, it can just temporarily become bike, so they are much easier to work on. On the other hand, monos actually take reliability and durability seriously because they have an autistic community and word of mouth spreads, if your shit is a faceplant machine you'll get blacklisted and only chumps will buy it. Scoots' biggest market are rentals, so you are getting the lowest common denominator, made to be as cheap and disposable as possible. You bought a Kia Rio of non-car transportation, its explicit purpose is to turn into a pile of rust right after its warranty expires, except all of these scoots are chink and chinks don't respect warranty anyway so the threat of expiration is immediate. Is it possible to make a quality e-scooter? It is, but you won't buy one, it'll be too expensive, you'll just upgrade to a shit model with bigger number instead.
>canadianShut up
>>2048730>I bet you want to fix tv's tooFixing TV's is actually stupid easy usually depending on make and model. Mostly due to the fact that while they're mass produced they aren't glued an soldered and held together with fragile plastic clips designed to break like smartphones and shitty laptops are out of maliciousness mostly. They don't need to do any of that since most people with twenty different streaming subscriptions can't be bothered to do some 30 minutes of research to trouble shoot what may be a very simple problem. Not like a TV exists to commute on nor does it store all your beloved family photo's that people don't backup for some reason so throwing it away ain't nothing to people usually.t. anon who was given a free broken Samsung TV with decent specs and all I had to do was remove a bunch of screws that were all the same size and disconnect like two or tree ribbon cables to swap in a non busted timing board.Of course I did that for fun basically, I enjoy seeing if I can bring stuff back to life. I have no delusions on such a venture being at all profitable however and I'm perfectly content with keeping that as just a hobby.I wonder how E-scooters would fair with their environments if say a country that gave a fuck like Japan or Italy were to make them however.
because you're a cucknadian who lives in a 3rd world country run by streetshitters. ALL "scooters" are Chinese junk that isn't worth fixing, or can only get worse afterwards/thread
>>2048189>Because most of those things are made to be disposable e-waste products from ChinaWorst Korea and Vietnam also make a fair amount of E-scooters too actually both good and absolute trash.Dualtron is a good example which is almost entirely made in the Peoples Republic of Samsung an LG and occasionally the Philippines too, also some Segways are from Vietnam which isn't entirely just a work around for sanctions since it was a thing prior and they already make a fair amount of bikes too so why not just re-tool for that market too.
>>2048429with a scooter I don’t need to pay gas or insurance and unlike bikes most people don’t care where I put it. I can fold it and put it on my back and go up stairs or literally just walk through any restaurant and hide it under the table unlike a bike where you have to put it outside and risk some nigger stealing it. I can go way faster than 15 mph and even if it isn’t legal most cops don’t really give a shit
>>2048187>TorontoTL;DR and opinion automatically disregarded regardless of the context.
>>2049571Cool story bro. I've got over 14,000 miles on mine and am on the 5th rear tire as its a bit of a tread eater since I weigh 240 pounds or so.Dont own a car and I live near Washington DC and take it on the metro trains often but not the buses, lol.As other anons have mentioned there are good scooters and then the more disposable kind.
