What's stopping i/n/cels from renting a car and attaching it to Amtrak California Zephyr from S.F. to Chicago?
>>2051933Because even a functional boxcar (no ventilation, lighting, etc.) is still thousands of dollars that /n/ doesn't have?
>>2051936That and the required insurance policy and requirement to have essentially your own conductor on staff are hefty costs. The actual price/mile is actually pretty cheap.
>>2051937There is at least one company with a fleet of private railcars that will let you charter them, they handle all that stuff
Why not just harpoon the train while wearing rollerskates?
There’s a lot of really cool, very expensive trips you could do with this in theory. In reality you’ll be extremely limited where you can go and where you can park it for a few days. and the capricious bureaucrat at Amtrak will strand you and your (very high paying) customers because the federal employee DEI hires botched some meaningless paperwork thing and there’s “nothing they can do”.Cool idea though
>>2051971Relax you can just say "niggers", it's fine now. Slavery is now officially good per the federal government.
>>2051939More than one :) But here is one of them.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSkysFOkupI
>>2051974man I wish
>>2051939Defeats the purpose of hitching your own car to it. Like I said, hauling the car is cheap. Storage, insurance, and having a designated person in charge are costly.
>>2052003>if I just repeat my failed argument, I win!
>>2052003>Defeats the purpose of hitching your own car to it.You're literally hitching your own car (that you chartered) to the back of an Amtrak train. The costs of all that other stuff are already rolled into the price.
>>2052011It's not your own personally owned car. You're just renting it. Hardly the same.
>>2052012It's my car for the duration of the charter.
I live near Ann Arbor, MI and occasionally see these two private cars parked on a siding there. I chatted up one of the crew members and they belong to a CEO who takes clients on trips to football games and such. Seems a lot cooler than a private jet and this would be my dream if I had fuck you money. As others have mentioned, there’s bigger expenses than just paying Amtrak to haul you around.
>>2051933ok hear me outwe get a hot air balloonand we attach it to the train
>>2052012nigga you can find abandoned train cars just about anywherefuck nigga, people even turn them into airbnbshttps://www.airbnb.com/rooms/44613554da train car don't cost shit
>>2052035I was born in U of M hospital across the street from the station, and when I was really little, we went to Chicago from that station. is the street still paved with brick over there?
>>2051933Straight out of Atlas Shrugged. If I ever get rich enough I would definitely do this.
>>2052130There’s still some brick paving in front of the old depot, a chunky stone Railroad Romanesque gem, which is now a restaurant. The current Amtrak station is just down the block, functional but charmless.
