What exactly happened here?
>>
>>2055849
tail rotor failure either mechanical or loss-of-tailrotor-effectiveness event compounded by (massive) pilot error. upon realizing something was wrong the right choices would've been to either gain airspeed or dump collective and take the L. probably the latter. the first thing the pilot does is to try to gain altitude at which point it's probably unrecoverable, after that it's overcorrection/pilot-induced oscillation

it looks like you can see the tail rotor fall off. something definitely falls off or gets thrown from the craft right when it falls
>>
>>2055853
when you see the tail rotor fall off the aircraft has already been toast for most of the webm. if you watch in slowmo the clip starts with the tail rotor completely stationary and if you look closely there is a small flare of light, perhaps a small explosion along the boom - presumably the driveshaft or something self-destructing

He zigged when he should have zagged.

based on the webm and sim experience the entire reaction window was probably between 2 and 20 milliseconds and the choices available in that time would have been purely a matter of how to die while doing the least damage.

It looks like the palm tree created this crash. The wind blows downward against the fronds which seem to redirect it into the tail rotor which causes it to fail? Created a vortex between the main prop and tail prop?

Yeah it clearly lost effectiveness before popping apart but in one video you can see the tail rotor blades just fly off of the hub
Kinda weird, would a sudden gearbox jam be enough to do that?

Rookie mistake
>>
there's a closer in version of this where you can see the chopper directly squashes two people, it's pretty brootal

I have no idea. someone somewhere will know the numbers

Who was on the heli that the Jews wanted dead?
>>
it's always retarded people that die in these things.
>>
>>2055849
Helicopters are fucking retarded.
>>
>>2055849
Tail rotor seems to have some weird shit with it's speed (as much as you can see it with the refresh rate of the camera that filmed it) before breaking and falling off. My some kind of mechanical failure there is my guess anyway.

Anyone have a link to the original video?

Not that exact one but here are a couple of the highest quality videos

Why don't helicopters have two tail rotors if it's such a critical part
>>
>>2056021
Just add a second main rotor and you don't even need a tail rotor!

I inspect powerlines and we use a helicopter bros. Im scared everytime i need to step in that loud deathmachine.
What can i do against my fear of the helicopter failing 80m of the ground and only like 10m away from powerlines?
I honestly hate it.
>>
>>2056032
i have to fly on them for work too and not a huge fan. insurance companies figure like a 10% hull loss on them which is crazy high, but you're at least flying with professional pilots the really risky helicopters are the rich people pilots someone told me the death rate is extremely high
>>
>>2056041
>Be rich
>Be stingy
>Hire underpaid butler/maid boys to fly your plane instead of hiring a professional for 6 figure salary
>Die in a plane crash one day
Pottery
>>
>>2055865
In a clearer video of the crash you can see the grey linkage i(the piece hanging vertically down across the tail rotor shaft) in the centre of the pic coming loose before the helicopter starts spinning, and the tail rotor blades in an abnormal pitch
>>
>>2056032
How do i get a job doing this
>>
>>2056118
Work for a grid company. I had days where i sat in that deathtrap for over 6 hours. 3 2 hour flights just hovering and doing 20mph along powerlines. It gets dizzy and the kerosene fumes are pretty bad
>>
>>2056032
I think I have a total of 1000 hours flying as loadmaster on Mil-8 helicopters in Sudan and Afghanistan. The only times I've been scared was when we had to land in a hot zone, other than than it was pretty chill. I think it's a personal thing, some people are scared shitless of these loud rattling mofos, can't blame them. I guess just embrace the fact that you will die one day.
