Is Coyote a really terrible bike brand? I need to buy a new bike, and the Coyote Alpine is like half the price of the literal BSO I am replacing. I know some of you will invariably be insanely passionate bikefags who think you need to spend five grand on a bike or it's not worth owning, but the best bike I ever owned was a GT Transeo and the worst bike I've ever owned was a Viking Roubaix. Where would the Coyote Alpine come on a scale from Viking to GT? I live in England, by the way, so some brands might be different from what Americans are used to.
>>2060810idk but I think its worth checking what you can get for the same price on FB marketplace. you might have to replace the chain and cassette though so I would budget for that.
>>2060810If you won’t cough up the dough for a real bike, the best thing to do is buy a good used bike and get it tuned up.That coyote is still a bso, shit parts and cheap construction. Theres nothing wrong with it inherently, it’ll still roll. But its not worth $250 (or whatever that is in pounds) and its not a bike thats really worth maintaining: it will always be a shitty hybrid with a pointless suspension fork. For $150 plus a tune up you can get an actually nice bike to ride with quality components that wont shit the bed. However that necessitates you shopping around then going to a bike shop. If you really can’t be fucked than buy the shitty coyote and look like a crack head. When it come

How do I replace the back wheel on my bike? It's a folding bike so it shouldn't be too awful to do myself I figure, but my rim is split so I really need to replace my current one ASAP but don't really know where to start.
I am working on setting up a nice steel frame as an endurance roadster. The current drive train is very narrow and I'm torn between a complete rebuild and a budget solution. My biggest concern is the low end. I'm not expecting to do loaded touring but do want to do brevets and other long distance rides. To that end I acquired a slightly stronger wheelset with a dynamoCurrently it's an older Shimano 600 group set. 9speed, 53/38 up front, and a 12-25 corncob in the rear. The bike is light enough that I can still get up most hills and just charge through the long one. But after a couple thousand feet of climb I'm burning out and that's on a shorter ride not at the end of 100 miles. I came up with three options:1. Swap the current short cage with a Microshift R9, throw an 11-34 on there. By far the cheapest option. Better than what i have, but not by a lot.2. R9 RD, 11-32 rear and also swap the crank set. Either something like a Sora 50/34 or even lower. Microshift makes a 48/31 for example Which wouldn't give up too much on the high end up but give me a sub 1:1 granny and I would be able to use the existing Shimano brifters.3. Quit waffling about and buy new everything. Likely some kind of 105/GRX mullet or maybe some kind of 2x gravel set up. Definitely more expensive, but might be worth it in the long run. I've got very little expHonestly the main price concern is that I also expect at least a new handlebar after a bike fit if not a new stem. Shit adds up and drying to keep things under 1k USD all said and done.
>>2060939Take it out and put a new one in
>>2060947I require instructions with finer detail than that.
Why does my e-bike headlight have 4 wires?2 measure 6 volts but the other 2 measure nothing?
>>2060948If the hub is good, you can maybe save a couple bucks by taking it to a shop and having them lace up a matching rim. Simple rims are usually pretty cheap, like 50 bucks cheap, so depending on what they charge for wheel building that's probably the best bet. What wheel is it? I am also assuming you want to the same cassette as you have now to directly replace not change the bike up.
>>2060963>What wheel is it?It's a 20 inch wheel with a with a solid axel, screw, rim brakes not disc.
>>2060948What exactly are you confused about lad? Like you got the broken wheel, go find one that is identical to replace it.
>>2060940I'd vote for option 2. No reason to leave Shimano 9 speed, it's the holy grail for parts compatibility and cheap parts. DESU you can safely go used if you want to save money. FWIW I have an old cyclocross bike with>9 Speed Sora brifters>11-34 aivilo cassette >9 Speed alivio derailleurShit just works.
>>2060940how about a sora triple set up this would give you a 30/39/50 up front and upto 11-34 rear
>>2060968I have the replacement wheel freshly ordered, but I have never once removed a wheel from a bike before.
>>2060940gotta be 2.I did something similar with an 80s road bike with 52/42 up front and I think the low rear was 28.I bought a MegaRange freewheel with 34 and put a long cage derailleur on but it's hilly here and I haul heavy shopping loads, so afterwards I got a used Sora 50/34 and I like my setup now . but with hindsight I'd do your idea and get the subcompact crank if I had to do it over again. maybe triple anon is onto something, too
new poorfag powermeter option just droppedseems interesting, might pick one up
>>2060983how much is it?and what happened the guy that was going to build one with like $50 in parts from aliexpress? I think it included a strain gauge and maybe an arduino
>>2060984~$200 and I don't knowhonestly stravawatts is fine, not like I'm shooting for podiums
>>2060985Aren't there better alternatives at that price point? Like a pedal or crank mounted better, chain measurement makes sense for budget but $200 isn't really budget tier for this specific product class
>>2060988I guess I haven't priced them in a while. Last I looked the cheapies were those weird powerpod things
>>2060948If it's genuinely just the wheel, you literally unscrew two bolts, remove the wheel, and install the new one that you bought whole from somewhere else.
>>2060971Have you ever wiped your own ass? Seriously man, you got this. I believe in you.
I am tired of retarded cagies driving with their highs on at night and blinding me. I am willing to petty and act similarly in response. What is the brightets man-portable light I can get for under 100$? I normally have a backpack on anyway and am used to wearing heavy stuff so I don't care about batteries. I just need some ridiculous xenon light that can be driven off a crap ass salvage 36v ebike battery (not used for drive, i just have one sitting around waiting for a project)
>>2061006while I understand the temptation all too well, all you're going to accomplish by escalation strategies is getting yourself killed or worse. it's fine to entertain intrusive thoughts as a way of blowing off steam but don't act on them.
do any of you use anything to preserve the paint on your bike? What products/ritual you use?
>>2061053Helicopter tape.
>>2060948If you have ever replaced an inner tube, that's how you take the wheel off. You will need to buy a new wheel, and make sure it's a rear wheel.
I bought a bike last week, had it tuned up and just took it for a first ride. I went about 6 miles with no problem, then a few hours later I went to ride another few miles and found that my butt had become pretty sore. Do I need to get padded shorts or will I adapt to this in a few weeks?
>>2061061It depends on a lot of things. If you sit on the seat, do your feet touch the ground?
>>2061063No, my leg is nearly fully extended when at the bottom pedal position.
>>2061061it's just one of those things, you'll toughen up before too long.the saddle is more like a perch than a seat. the contact points are two little bony parts on your ass. the tissue in between just gets mashed, that's just how it is.if the sit bones don't contact the center of the bulbed out part of the saddle, possibly your overall bike fit could be off or maybe you need a different width saddle, but ride for a while and try to break your ass in first
>>2061060>If you have ever replaced an inner tube, that's how you take the wheel off.I have not. I've patched the tube plenty of times, by popping the tyre off the rim and pulling the tube out of the gab so I can work on it, but I have never, ever removed the wheel. Not once.
>>2061073As with many things, it's way simpler than you may think. Just take the wheel off right now and put it back on again before the new one even arrives. You'll feel a lot better. Grab some tools, find one that fits, start wrenching.
Trying to get the tire off a new-used bike. Never changed that particular tube/tire before. I cannot get this fucker off to change the tube. Am I missing something? WHY WON'T THE FUCKING TIRE COME OFFAm I having a stroke or something? I went to my normal 28" mtb bso and the tire came off ezpz using the rear end of a small wrench as a lever, and seated back in just as easily. Pumped it up, it's g2g. On the 26" ebike slop wheel I was trying to fix, it would just chew up the rim and the bead is so tight I can't slide the wrench around to unseat it. It's a normal clincher tire, I think. There was a tube in it that came out. Do I have to just fucking cut it off or something? I have new tires on order anyway.BTW if I do just get frustrated and slice it with a knife when I get some new tires, is there anything neat I can do with a dead tire? Not anything structural, just some instructables/pintrest-y arts and crafts people like to do with them.

>>2061093This, honestly.
>>2061094>>2061093i just use it to get to work, man. I could bike it properly but at 5 AM with a hangover I'd rather something lazier and quicker>>2061084but on my other normal as god intended bike the tires come off ezpz.
>>2061097>his excuse for being lazy is that he's lazy
>>2061098it's not an excuse it's a declaration. just tell me how to get this fucking tire off
>>2061099Use a real tire lever. You do know that you run it around one side of the tire entirely before trying to pry the tire off right?
>>2061100>You do know that you run it around one side of the tire entirelyYes, I know, the problem was that I couldn't run it around the tire to pop one bead off before moving on to the other. It really clamped down on what I was using. I could get it in there but not move it around after.>real tire leverI ordered some in but they come later in the week and I would rather be able to get to work on time monday
>>2061082you write these schizo posts every thread. kill yourself
>>2061082Kys you retarded nigger.
>>2060956it could be for dimming or something but some chinky goods just use too many wires/plugs/sockets/etc it's because they often make a more advanced version of that product and it's cheaper to just use the extra wire than to have a separate assembly line. it's like when you get a computer mobo that just has empty space where another PCI or memory slot could go (and they didnt populate it because that model doesn't have the good VRM to supply enough power or whatever)
>>2061105I think I might be the "shiczo" you're referring to because you've replied to my posts like this in the past. I think it's just "everyone who writes more than 3 words at a time is a schizo"t. exclusive roadie with only 700c tires ever so that clearly isn't me
>>2061102I've been changing bike tires for decades and never had problems until I got my first kevlar bead tires. my regular tire levers (and I have several pairs by now) all failed. Pedros levers are the most robust design I could find and buying them allowed me to succeed, though still difficult.an extreme example, but all tires/manufacturers are different. I'd not used that brand before, either.there's also a device called a bead jack for this, but so far Pedros solved my issue.hopefully just regular levers is all you need. before Monday, you could go to a shop and buy some. even if there's no bike shops around you, Walmart sells tubes and pumps and lights, I'm almost positive they have levers. or target or whatever you have that sells bsos.go to the OP park tool link and review their tire changing video, too
How much would it cost to build my own bike out of parts? I'm happy with a BSO-tier bike. If I bought one of every part from a bike shop, could I assemble them into a decent bike for a BSO price?>>2061071You should be able to stand on tiptoes when you're on a bike. But the ass pain is normally if the seat is too low, and it definitely isn't if you can't reach the ground.
>>2061151absolutely not.everything including the frame costs more part by part.and since only hobbyists do it, you can't even buy a bso frame. any frame sold bare is going to be fancy. however the chinese sell them the cheapest. Australia bro got his Tsunami at a decent price, but the shipping from China wasn't bad but to the US or Europe it would've been a lot.you can buy a used bike for the frame size and style you like, keep the parts you like, and buy used and Chinese parts (or another cheap used bike with a parts group you like) and achieve what you're talking about. but it still probably won't be bso priced all told. but if you're careful it'll be cheaper than the equivalent new non-bso bike, and probably much higher quality than a bso
>>2061151Expect to pay 20-30% more for self build. It's the opposite when it comes to bikes, piecing your own bike will cost a lot more than buying one whole because bikes still operate under economies of scale. This isn't so important if you're content with BSOs or near BSO-tier bikes but if you seek peak min-max performance then it might be worth it, as it allows building for better bike fit and better bike fit = more horsepower.
>>2061149i ended up getting it off and it was indeed just really fucking tight for no reason. i found a tube in the closet and put it all together, gonna let it just sit for a while to see if the random closet tube is gonna leak on me. getting the tire back on was "easier" but still not the absolute swooce it is on other tires. i will probably regret reinstalling it when i inevitably pop this tube too doing winter biking nonsense>>2061151it's not cheaper. muh economy of scale. you pay 45.99 for that set of brakes, SuperCycle or whoever pays 13.15501$ because they buy 100,000 of them at a timeimo better way to do it is get an off-the-rack bso and just upgrade only the shit that matters instead of starting ground-up. unless you're racing you can do with chinky entry level shifters and brake levers, the frame will probably be aluminum and fairly light, you dont need to replace cables, etc. but you can slowly order up better rims/tires/brakes/derailleur/fork/etc and learn to wrench to have something presentable and smooth. or a horrid abomination that is somehow faster than the 5200$ bike your dentist rides
>>2061156>>2061159>>2061174Thanks, everybody. I took your advice immediately and went and bought another GT Transeo, which probably counts as a BSO but it's definitely at the top end. I'll be spending loads on extra shit to attach to it like lights and things, but once I have all that, I can probably upgrade the parts as they fall apart and drop off.
>>2061082You will always be a nigger and a faggot and I revel in your failure.
I want to get some spare inner tubes.Material - Latex? TPU? Butyl?Any specific brand?
>>2061115I think this was it, i took(the already broken) light apart, and the 4 wires in the fixture lead to nothing, only the 6v wires went to the LED.

>>2061269off all the things worth fussing over with your bike, tubes aren't. maybe you're out there to podium crits or red bull rampage and disagree, but I doubt it.
>>2061269no reason not to go with tpu
>>2061269For go fast performance, TPUIf you've got tough tires, TPUIf you're poorfag, Butyl and patch kitsyou can patch TPU but it isn't as easy as butyl. IMO they remain superior for touring. Otherwise, get some cheap TPUs from Aliexpress.

>>2061321they make patches for tpu, and they work, I'm riding one.my Cyclami came with patches. some other brands don't come with them but you can buy the Cyclami patches separately
I've never patched a tube. Intellectually I understand that tubes can be patched but I can't imagine a scenario where I would do that. If you've somehow managed to put yourself into a situation where your best option is to patch your tube and limp home on whatever PSI you could manage, you deserve to walk.
>>2061375patching is for at home; riding on a freshly patched tube is a good way to make the patch fail.
>>2061376if you do it wrong
>>2061377Well I don't have a giant battery on my bike because I'm not a faggot, so I can't heat gun my tube to make everything stick instantly.
>>2061379
>>2061379the vulcanizing fluid has a volitile solvent in it that evaporates in several seconds, less if you blow on it. then the patch bonds to the dry glue instantly. it's as strong as it will ever be just by pressing the patch down firmly.the tpu patches are like a sticker, no fluid needed. the instructions say it takes one minute for the bond to cure. I've used them several times no problem.
>>2061375A properly patched tube works as well as a fresh tube, the main problem is patching properly on a field repair with time constraints, patching is made more difficult and unreliable if there's rain or snow. One of my tubes I used so long it has like a dozen patches and didn't leak, I used that tube until the valve ripped away from the tube. You're right though, best practice is to just swap to a fresh tube, then patch the punctured one at home properly
>>2061375you can literally go anywhere with just patches and a mini pump. even a spare tube can get a hole, but you can patch a tube indefinitely
Let’s see you guys’ forever grips, solutions for grips that don’t dissolve into goop by the sun over many years. Cyclists who have been riding less than say, 5 years need not reply (it will happen to you).
Any recs for a budget headlight to slap on my fat bike? Doesn't need to be big and bright, just enough to get me through my local trails and rural roads during these short winter days
I'm too poor to get a 90$ Super thick ultra heavy duty extreme u-lock for bike.I have a masterlock bar, i just got a kyrptonite chain. And i have some cheap thick metal cord lock that is supposed to be NOT easy to cut. (but probably is).The bike Itself has a key lock. And theres a folding lock (which might be most difficult even compared to the kyrptonite lock.)So 5 locks.I'm probably gonna ditch the cheap metal cord lock.So 4 locks. Thats good right? On a scale of 1 to 10, how safe am i? 10 would be the most REASONABLE lvl safe.If you imagine tanks, alligators and shit protecting my bike, that would be more then 11.What should I do with the cheap metal cord lock?
>>2061499I always pondered that somehow incorporating a bunch of grease or tar intertwined with an old bike inner tube or something would slow down power tools and making manual cutting tool harder to get through. Or Like why not just have a 4" diameter chunk of material you have to get through, where bolt cutter aren't opening that wide. And you'd need like 10 Sawzall blades to go through cause the tar just clogs them all up.I hope this helps and I really hope you never ever get any bike you ever own stolen anon.
>>2061499>>2061501Come out and your shit is gone BITCH
>>2061499ultimately no lock can be relied upon to keep your bike safe. the only thing that really works is to never let it out of your sight.
>>2061475outbound hangover is the best bang for buck that I know of. not exactly budget but even mediocre bar-mounted single-LED lights are $70 these days. I wouldn't seriously consider anything else unless I was twenty years old again with perfect night-vision and full NEET mode.... if that's you, any chinesium headlight will probably be fine.
>>2061502>>2061504I just said there's 2 good locks, plus the bike key lock, plus the folding lock (which is very hard to use. And might be the best lock)Or the worst lock, cause i wish it was easier. And the cheap metal wire lock (which i don't think i can count.)So at least 3 locks, 1 which is part of bike, and the folding lock (very hard lock).Who is gonna go through 3 locks, and try to figure out the folding lock (which i hate for being so hard to unlock). ?No one is that crazy.Just steal a car for 10,000$ more then my bike? Not to mention, it weighs 75 pounds, and is almost too heavy to lift. (don't ask)A car only has 1 key lock, and you can break window, and hotwire.Seems a lot easier for 10,000$ more? (or 70,000 more for some cars) How dumb are we saying criminals are? This is like animal level dumb, not human.
>>2061507btw the key lock that is part of bike, turns it on.if you break that, it doesn't get power.(it's an e-bike) Then it's less of a bike, and more like a skateboard. (not that fast) You gonna go through 3 locks for that? Are we just assuming criminals are the level of dumb where they look at something like...glass or rocks, and think it's fun to eat?I would have to hope a criminal might be mart enough, not to go through 3 locks. But am i hoping for too much?
>>2061507might be adequate deterrent for, guessing here, six and a half minutes
>>2061508>am i hoping for too much?yeah almost certainly. if your plan is to lock up your ebike in a public space I would expect it to be gone within a week, maybe an hour.
>>2061053Transparent frame protector stickers
What's the deal with people not having grips on their handlebars, like in picrel? I've seen this occasionally around town. Is there any practical reason to do this or is it purely an aesthetic preference?
>>2061509I can't bring a GIANT ebike in the stores, it's almost the size of a motorcycle.I'm not sure what you are saying i should do?Do i attach some motion camera to my scooter and hook it wirelessly to my phone? Or some motion alarm?I'm not even sure what sort of model alarm or camera i would have to get for that.I hate how we are saying criminals are so dumb, that even overdone security somehow is useless even though the 60,000$ cars are right next to my bike. My bike which is like 900$ at most. How is this possible?>>2061510>a week or hourThere's a bit of a difference there. I was planning maybe a couple hours. If you are saying like 3 hours or 2 days, I am safe.A week? You are saying it will never get stolen. An hour? I pray you are not saying that.In public spaces you would have to be a criminal who uses a loud obvious big angle grinder metal cutter in front of dozens of public people, and cameras. Are we assuming that's what happens?Public space is less unlikely to get stolen? I mean if i lock it in a public garage (that is mostly empty all the time) I think it would be easier to take then in public (locked to bike lock bar) in front of dozens of people and cameras, right? Are we saying i should spend 90$ on the super thick ultra heavy duty lock, that would take a VERY long time for a heavy duty metal cutting angle grinder and have a hard time getting through?
>>2061529I might have to lock it somewhere public, and just like hide near some cars or building a 100 feet away. And wait for a couple hours, during a couple days. To see what happens.I feel like most people don't really touch it. And i kinda doubt anyone is gonna come with a LOUD metal cutting angle grinder in public. And work for a few MINUTES in PUBLIC to take it.Like i know it happens, i'm just saying usually thats done at night, with no people around, I assume.
>>2061523yeah it saves about 23 gramswhat do you think
>>2061523I would guess the tape rotted, they took it off and didnt bother to replace it.
>>2061449my solution is to replace it every 2 years. those lock on grips are like $5 shipped on ali express.
My bike makes a rhytmic thumping noise whether freewheeling or under power. Is my rear rim fucked or can spokes do this? Either way, my eyesight isn't very good and I can't tell anything other than that it's horrifically aligned either way, but it was just as horrifically aligned before I took a curb badly enough to pop a tube
>>2061553Is the thumping speed dependent or does it sound like it's matched to crank rpm?
>>2061561It sounds matched to speed over ground, which is why I suspect it's the wheel. I can't tell anything spinning it freely when lifted off the ground because I'm half-blind.
>>2061562Without spinning the wheel, check for play in the rear wheel by moving the rim perpendicular to the direction of regular wheel movement. It should not have any play, if there is, it's a bearing problem. Then pluck each spoke like it's a guitar string, check the tension and hear it ring, any bad spokes will sound weird. Other than that, make sure the tire is mounted to the wheel correctly then make sure the wheel is mounted to the bike correctly. I don't think it could be the chain or heard since you believe it's speed dependent instead of rpm
>>2061523Saving up for soyo njs grips
Building a bike with campy 11 speed groupsetIt seems that Shimano 11 speed cassettes have the same spacing to Campy 11 speed cassettes. But a few people say that it isn't "perfect" shifting but good enough. Is this true? I was looking forward to just buying shimano cassettes.
>>2061581jtek shiftmate compatibility charts comment on the question is that it can't be done. I'd tend to believe them by default. if you're building a meme gruppo just do it. if you want cheap and available cogs, just don't.
