tpu or tubeless?

I have a 26 inch fat bike that I want to swap the wheels for 27.5" skinny tires
The only problem is that it's an older rim brake frame
I already know the wheel+tire will fit in the frame but what I'm not sure about is whether or not the rim is going to line up with the brake pads, is there any way I can be sure before wasting my money?

Tubeless. The first few times dealing with mounting and sealant will be a PITA but you'll get better at it just like you did with tubes. The thing is, it takes a LOOOOOONG time to get practice (like several years) because you will basically never have to do it. And a lot of the assumptions you make with tubes can no longer be used, like the idea that any tire can go on any rim. A lot of people get filtered by this and go back to legacy tech that sucks more because they feel that getting frequent practice dealing with problems is better than just not dealing with problems.

I think you could use a motorcycle one if the pin pusher is the right size but it will be suboptimal. Just buy one on amazon for 12 bucks. It has the tool that holds the chain together when you split it

I thought the same. I then gave TPU a shot anyways mostly because I hate tubeless so much. I have now nearly worn out my rear PZero and never had a flat with that setup. I've also done loads of gravel riding and bikepacking in the woods (my friends always include these sections but I only have this bike). It also holds the pressure better than I thought (went for a week long tour without a pump). Ride feel is great. Positively suprised.

Closest I have to strange is this Bianchi style of frames that not many know of in my experience. I really want one of these. Apart from that I'm building a rat bike this weekend. Rusted 700c hybrid frame that I'm building up as a deore 2x10 drop bar with stem mounted and suicide shifters. Again not really strange though but slightly unusual.

How many of you patch up tubes rather than just buying new ones? For many years I would just collect old tubes in a garage but not patch them because I felt that I would suck at it. Then last year I purchased all the stuff you need... I got sandpaper, I got the big jar of slime rubber cement, I got the Rema top of the line patches. Some of these patch jobs I complete successfully, but it seems like more often than not my first attempt fails. I feel like I do what I'm supposed to sanding the large area, cementing a large area around the hole and letting it dry, applying the patch and putting weight on top of it to press it down, but it seems to fuck up so much, especially around the orange edge of the patch.

Don't get me wrong, I have been able to save 12-15 tubes, but seeing so many of them keep failing, It's so frustrating.

tubeless is the one time the cycling world was sane enough to take cues from automotive but too stupid to figure out why a thing is indeed a thing and not take the one dumbest thing they could

it works on cars because cars have fucking wide tires would make a car "tube" prohibitively expensive to make properly since it wouldn't be round, and cars sit on flat tires which are further not amenable to inflated tubes. so instead you just have a stiffer tire that seats to the rim. motorbikes still use tubes on dirt bikes and scooters and even some sport bikes and you only see car-styled tubeless tires on sport motorcycles that are weight weening or have tire profiles that aren't very round, or similarly on dirt bikes with flatter tires or thinner wheels where again a tube won't be round and won't work great unless your tire has enough stiffening that you may as well just seal and inflate the tire.

it's very likely to leak because bike wheels have spokes that stick into the rim creating a bunch of tiny airgaps for air to escape from. It's the same reason a lot of antique cars that have spoked wheels (such as the Ford Model A for example) tended to use inner-tubes as well.

I have a Lemond Zurich 2002 frame. It is in decent shape with paint chips and rust on the cable stops.
Should I get it restored or just leave it be? Getting the paint restored would mean 4 months wait time but it would be getting a modern paintjob and all that comes with that. But I really want to ride it ASAP.

depending on the tire it's possible but it's not ideal. the sealant welds itself to the tire bead and that's a significant source of slow air loss

Theres a difference between 11-spd Road Shimano freewheel bodies and 11-spd MTB Shimano freewheel bodies.
Now my new 11-spd (apparently road) cassette doesn't fit on the used wheelset for gravel use I bought although the seller said it fits 11-spd. rrrreeeeeeeeee

I patch everything until there's a leak close enough to the valve that I can't patch it, or maybe like a long tear or something.
it sounds like you're doing it right. it is tricky to pull off the backing near the edge. if your backing is thin plastic instead of foil, you can just leave it on.
also, you're allowed to pull off the failed patch and reglue the tube and put a new patch on.
blow on the glue and make sure it's dry? it will look cloudy. you probably are but anyway

I've got a 3x7 gear system, and while riding on the first and third front gears runs smoothly, the second gear doesn't seem to catch properly at all and the chain jumps around. I've tried adjusting the cable tension, cleaning the chain, and replacing the front derailleur (which I needed to do anyways, regardless) and nothing seems to work.

The only other answers I can think of are replacing the actual gear shifters, or packing the rear hub full of grease. I thought I did so when I last took the hub apart to clean and regrease, but maybe I sucked at it and didn't know.
