You can go out and buy a plane right now, now you won't be able to fly it legally without getting a private pilot's licence which can take 3-4 months and cost up to $20,000. You will need to meet medical criteria to hold a PPL, so research the medical requirements first.

Owning and running a plane is expensive, mainly due to running costs.

Acquisition Costs (Purchase)
Ultralight Aircrafts: $8,000 – $15,000.
Older Single-Engine (1950s-60s Cessna 150): $25,000 – $50,000.
Modern/Typical Single-Engine (Cessna 172): $100,000 – $300,000+.
Experimental Aircraft: $35,000 – $120,000+.
Multi-engine Planes: $75,000 – $300,000+.

Fixed Annual Costs (Regardless of Flying)
Hangar/Tie-down: Hangarage ranges from roughly $486 per month in rural areas to over $1,800 in high-cost areas like Florida.
Insurance: Roughly $1,000 to several thousand per year depending on the pilot's experience and aircraft type.
Annual Inspection: $2,000 – $10,000+ per year, depending on the plane's condition and required repairs.

Variable Costs (Per Flight Hour)
Fuel: Typically runs $100-$200 per hour for fuel, oil, and routine maintenance (such as oil changes every 35-50 hours).
Engine Reserve: A crucial expense, with owners setting aside $20-$100+ per hour for an eventual overhaul, which can cost $30,000 minimum.
Total Ownership Scenario (100 Hours/Year)
Typical Used Cessna 172: $17,000 – $30,000 per year (including hangar, insurance, and fuel, but not financing).
Low-cost Usage: Some owners report operating older, simple aircraft like a Citabria for roughly $5,000-$6,000 per year in fixed costs, plus fuel and maintenance.

Major Cost Drivers
Maintenance: "There's nothing more expensive than a cheap airplane." Older planes often require expensive, unexpected maintenance.
Avionics Upgrades: Modernizing instruments can exceed $100,000.Partnerships: Sharing ownership with others reduces fixed costs like hangar fees and insurance by 50% or more.

I bet he didn't leave you a shitload of money. I bet you're actually a retarded autist instead. In case I'm wrong, here's what you do. Set aside $250,000 to $500,000 solely for flight lessons. Getting your pilot's license isn't obscenely expensive

But, even if you get your pilot's license, you'll still need bare minimum $250,000 to get any 2-4 person airplane that isn't a complete shitbox. You might be able to find one for under 100k, but it's not a guarantee, and you should at least budget for more than that.

TLDR: you picked literally the most expensive hobby to be interested un

There is an experimental low altitude class that just lands on water you can just buy and fly, you'll want some nice water for that.

>me grandad left me a bunch of money
yeah dont touch it, just work a wagie job and pretend like you are poor before you blow through your money thinking you have it all figured out. unless you are inheriting a position within a company as well, then i suggest you figure out what the hell you really want out of life before you cough up big money to go to school. and if you are dead set on becoming a pilot. then i guess you better be dead set on moving to alaska, because thats where its super cheap to learn.

Its AI slop because there's hyphens mixed in with em dashes. Hyphens are easy to type on a regular keyboard, but not en dashes.
