I'd like to learn how to ride a bike, but I'm a few hundred pounds overweight. What can I do?
>>
its probably easier since you have a ton of inertia.
anyway the hard part is to get up to speed, at which point the bike keeps itself upright. but getting there is wobbly.
I think the easiest way to learn would to lower the seat enough that you can plant your feet on the ground while sitting on the saddle. use your feet to sort of run while on the bike then lift them and coast. when you get the hang of that you can pedal instead of coasting.

fatbike, unironically

walk and get on a 20% kcal deficit

Steel framed bicycle with steel wheels and reinforced spokes.
Keep in mind, don't expect to be lance armstrong the first day. If you get winded after pedalling a couple blocks down the street, that's okay. Before you know it, you made it a full mile before having to stop and recover.
>>
Don't use your saddle as a seat, the pedals should bear a non-trivial amount of your weight at all times. If your feet are slipping, get pinned flat pedals, the pedals that came with your shitter are probably not very grippy or safe

this and also you can use a mild hill and it'll bring you up to speed rapidly.

Buy a cheap mountain bike and put a gorillion psi in the tires so they are rock hard and ride it around the neighborhood. Something like:

A well built 24 spoke wheel is likely stronger than a 36 spoke walmart bike wheel, not saying to go out and buy a sir velo but perhaps op should consider swinging by the local bike co-op and asking about building a 36 spoke wheel for giga-clydesdales
>>
>>2072073
don't go too cheap on that mtb, go inexpensive but overbuilt
https://www.walmart.com/ip/29-Ozark-Trail-FS-2-Slalom-Full-Suspension-Mountain-Bike-Medium-Frame-Fits-Riders-5-6-5-9-White-Adult/8383259261
the things that make this a mediocre mtb make it perfect for OP. frame and wheels are heavy as shit, and the rear coil spring is about twice as stiff as what most riders are looking for. but all the broke MTB riders complaining about those things are missing the true redneck genius behind this specific bike. walmart's been trying to make some affordable entry level bikes that don't completely suck lately, and part of that is making sure that someone like OP can move from a walmart scooter to a walmart bike without breaking it in half the first time they hit a pothole. just don't trust your life to the stoned walmart teenagers who have to assemble these things, and pay an extra $50-100 for a real bike shop to inspect it if you don't really know what you're doing.

>grocery store department bicycle
he needs something that can withstand and hold up OP using it, not a walshart special.
>>
>>2072073
and just inflate the tires to the max pressure printed on the sidewall, the gorillion PSI will come when OP sits down. MTB tires are already built for hitting jumps, so they can handle way more weight than rated for on low-intensity pavement rides

>The 29-inch Ozark Trail FS.2 Slalom Full-Suspension Mountain Bike (Medium Frame) has a maximum total load capacity of 300 lbs. This limit includes the weight of the rider, gear, and any accessories. The bike itself weighs approximately 39 lbs
keep in mind
>but I'm a few hundred pounds overweight. What can I do?
>a few hundred pounds
>>
OP how tall are you and how much do you weigh?
>>
>>2072088
300lbs in the woods, 500lbs on the sidewalk, similar stresses on all the load bearing parts. you want something that's actually rated that high, you're looking $1500-2500 minimum. and if OP doesn't have that in the budget, then the hack solution is either the wally world special or hope that old 90s steel frame from craigslist isn't too rusty

Imagine trying to stop that on rim brakes.

>Weight Capacity: The bike has an assembled weight of approximately 39lbs and can support a maximum load weight of 300lbs

You actually want a hardtail
>>

Naw those pacific cycle components are sturdy and heavy as fuck. I've trurned the wheel 90° and put my 280 lbs of weight and the bike on the front wheel while going over the bars. That fork won't even budge on anything other than mtb trails with a 280 lb rider too. Those bikes are built like farm equipment.
>>
>>2072019
Would hold off on bicycles that use 700c wheels.
Grab a bike that uses 650b or MTB wheels, that way it'll be comfier to ride and won't bruise up your sit bones as quickly after a ride. If you live in an area that tends to have debris everywhere you go, use tires that has high amounts of puncture resistance.
>>
>>2072146
>I've trurned the wheel
american manufacturing is truly amazing. a bicycle where you can turn the front fork is wild
>>
>>2072091
5 ft 7, 680 lbs
>>
>>2072019
Sorry what is a few hundred pounds? Just write your fucking weight. If you are for example five hundred pounds do you think there is a bike that could take your weight?

>>2072218
If you are really the OP and almost 700 do you really think a bicycle can handle that weight? It can't be realistic.
