5hrs newfag just starting out. I've decided to do my PPL mostly in a Cub and a Citabria. I was somewhat shocked to find out that only 4 out of the 18 CFIs at the school had the tailwheel endorsement. I can't understand why you wouldn't just get it if the school has the planes. It seems obviously cooler to me. I understand it may take longer to be able to solo but after you are a CFI and have hundreds of hours under your belt you're tellin me you're not gonna go fly the cool stuff just for the hell of it?

>If I was given the controls of a 737 during the landing phase and the plane was still 10,000 feet in the air, what would likely be the outcome? Would I crash the plane?

If you were suddenly handed the controls at 10,000 feet with no guidance, the odds of a successful landing would be quite low, and a crash or severe accident would be a likely outcome.

I fucking hate being in Radio Control.
>fuckton of overflies and inbound outbounds
>no radar scopes
>nothing but a clock, pen, and flightstrips
>static noise earraping you all day
>have to sift through the noise to catch a faint callsign
>have to repeat transmissions in a loud voice thrice on average because piece of shit pilots can barely speak english.
My throat hurts after every shift. I fucking hate this. I should've stayed in approach.

I asked, apparently some of them fly it but they are unwilling to instruct tailwheel because the likelihood of an incident is much higher which could affect the future airline career. Personally I am not deterred. The school also has a pitts and I absolutely need to get my ass in that thing once I git gud. Also there are only 3 now apparently and one of them is a semi retired old guy who doesn't really take regular students just does the "you are ok to solo" checkride for tailwheel. So really just 2 guys lol.

I'm transferring to DFW soon. 320 CA is 3.5 years away and WB FO is 5.5 years away. Can't decide if I should be a narrow chud for the rest of my career or go chad WB FO.
Pic rel. Path A is NB CA, Path B is WB FO > WB CA
>>
>>2076368
Honestly based. Shoot your shot with someone who can attest to your flying ability. If they duck you there is 99% chance of zero issues for daring to ask a DL douche.

>>2076388
Hello junior to me. The bus sucks ass, go 737 and grow a pair of testicles. Especially prior to a widebody transition assuming you've never flown the guppy before. Fuck DFW. Fuck the AirBussy. Just go NB Capt and then WB FO afterwards as a downbid. You get a fancy star on your wings, and you're future proofing as you're not wasting potential income as a Capt sitting idly as a NB FO.

At my seniority I can hold NB Capt for 2-4 years before holding the junior LAX 777 FO spot, the only risk is losing my first "up n out" to escape the widebody if I dislike the commute or hate the lifestyle. You never know when the music stops, and aside from encouraging you to explore the B737 prior to upgrade, you should upgrade, THEN downbid to WB FO.
>>
>>2076414
Cool, where did you come from?
I’m an NK refugee so the bus is forever ingrained in my soul. I think upgrade then downgrade is the move if QOL lives up to the hype. I’m moving to DFW to buy acreage next year because I want my kids to grow up on a ranch.

I fucken love this plane bros. We always take off and land in the grass, instructor says asphalt is an insult to the cub. The only airport I have landed at that even has an asphalt runway so far is the school's. We go to back country grass fields to practice. I still suck of course and am very inconsistent, but it's ok, I also don't ever do go-arounds because if you are too high you can just slip down sideways like nobody's business. Some of them are extremely short, bumpy, and lined with trees but that also doesn't matter because you can plop the plane down almost vertically. People come out of their houses to take cell phone videos of me landing sideways and doing my wobbly baby pilot takeoffs just because it's a cool vintage plane. The few instruments it has are suggestions, either inaccurate or barely functional. Look out the window, that's your instrument.

When I get to doing cross country shit I'll probably start flying something with modern and actually functional avionics but I am glad I chose this way to learn fundamentals. Bonus: I never have to worry about it being booked out because very few other students fly it. Heck I might even be the only one with just a student pilot certificate flying it.

turned down a interview at mco ops (airfield operations specialist pic rel; im jfk ops now working the same) because fiance didn't want to move (she makes $100k as a graphic designer)

turns out it wouldn't have been that much of a paycut ($27/hr base -> $38/hr top step vs my current pay of $39/hr and $45/hr top step in 2 years + unlimited overtime here)

starting to second guess my decision desu would've been a good opportunity to leave nyc i think if i was single or making less money i would be more open to it at the same time i hate the fact that a starter home costs $700k vs $350k down there

1. You're not married. Engaged is just engaged, you are NOT married yet. Do not make compromises for a GF with a ring.
2. Graphic design is getting BTFO by AI slop, how future proof is her job?
3. Cost of living is much lower in MCO, as long as you don't mind the spics.
>>
why would you even be in a relationship in the city? every girl there has fucked 100 guys minimum.
>>
>>2077037

i got mine pre-covid and we've been together 7 years, she's not vaxxed and she's loyal to a fault.

if anything nyc is unironically the best dating market in america; 60/40 female to male ratio + a decent chunk of the guys are gay. i think i would still be incel if i lived somewhere else.

>>2077034

1. isn't entirely her fault; i had 3 hours to decide on a friday and figured it wasn't worth the $500 flight round trip + 2-3 days pto at the time, but then i ran the numbers and realized the biggest difference would be the overtime (lack of it; some of my coworkers doubled their salary and cleared $150-200k living at work. i personally made $70k base + $50k ot last year).

the other question is if its union or non-union. its unironically difficult to get fired from this job unless you really try while down there i might find myself working the ramp or similar if it doesn't work out (or shitcanned for being late or something equally stupid...we still use paper sign in/out sheets ffs)

2. probably <2 years before her company gets bought out and she gets a severance, and desu again she could simply just work remote. she's skilled at her job at least. figure we would try for a child then before we get too old and ends up retarded

3. yeah my biggest issue is a house here is $5k/mo mortgage after $150k down payment in long island (750k 3 bed 2 bath house in massapequa); down there a house is $2600/mo (75k down payment 360k house). the spics don't bother me at all.

the only upside of long island is the schools are some of the best in the country but you pay the property tax to make up for that.

the other factor is her family is all here in nyc, while mine moved down to orlando (mom getting old @ 71y/o + accessibility to childcare if needed is there in either city).

if i had less stability i would be more willing to experiment. aka no relationship, no employment, less pay, etc. at the same time i fucking hate nyc. too crowded.

all this talking of moving and choosing where to live, le sigh. as a dispatcher we're limited to exclusively high CoL shitheaps with garbage amazon-tier pay at regionals and i suppose enough at the majors but there should still be an inflation-resistant raise. i guess it's not as insulting as the mechanics though, that field has a genuine labor shortage because they don't get paid enough despite being perhaps the most fundamental to operations and being the most physically intensive.

Is joining a cadet program actually good idea or just a meme? Most of them have affiliated schools I dont go to anyway, but some dont have that requirement
>>
>>2077135
Everyone around me advised avoiding the one in my area. Apparently the school used is somewhat scammy and even though you get $12.5k, "up to" $27k to put towards flight training if you are accepted into the program, the costs of that school end up exceeding going somewhere else by a fair amount anyways even minus the stipend. Plus they have other bad reputation issues like being a pilot mill, having planes out for maintenance a lot, and even a nasty crash. It also does not mean guaranteed job at a regional after your 1500 either. This may not be the case where you are though so I'd just ask around and talk to people.
>>
>>2077117
most people aren't getting jobs at 1500 anymore. it's not competitive. only way to get in at 1500 is if you're already in a cadet program or something, maybe some real networking.
>>
>>2077139
It’s easier as a helicopter pilot but I know a ton of airplane pilots obviously. If you are not in a cadet program then wtf are you doing? Just apply to all of them. And if you’re not networking this may not be the right career path for you. Not you specifically but pilots in general.
>>
>>2077135
>>2077136
Most airplane pilots I know who are aspiring to be airline pilots are in a ton of different cadet programs. They didn’t attend school through a cadet program.

>What is the best way to network when youre a straight white man and so there are no conferences for us
Have you ever been to one? Its literally all White men. You just have to pretend like you love niggers/women/fags/gooks/whatever conference you're at. They're fucking demoralizing and you will hate yourself for going but they absolutely will help get you hired.
>>
>>2077164
Yeah pretty much this >>2077166

The media may make it seem like it’s the opposite but this industry is still very, very much dominated by white men who prefer white men. In addition to that, make friends at flight school, go to conferences. Hell, it even works sometimes to literally go to a hangar at some airport and start introducing yourself to people. Aviation is very much still an industry where showing up with a resume and asking to speak to the manager can actually land you a job. And no I’m not a boomer.
