At the heart of the standoff is Democratic Party demands that Republicans agree to an additional $700bn in spending by restoring cuts to healthcare that were enacted over the summer and make permanent the expiring temporary COVID emergency health care credits enacted in 2023 that are due to expire Jan 1, 2026.
>>
>>1446364
Fun fact: Dems actually offered a deal to fund emergency services just to stop things from falling apart. Republicans are so inept they refused.

They own the shutdown.
>>
This is so fucking stupid and I hope Mike Johnson chokes on the next dick he sucks.
>>
>>1446368
>They own the shutdown.
This thing you do where you brag about shutting down the government but also say its Republicans fault its shut down is a case study in how absolutely broken you people are at the most fundamental level.
>>
>>1446368
>Republicans are so inept they refused.
The republican strategy is to let the country fall to shit so they can blame it on the dems. It's not ineptitude, it's malice.
>>
>>1446372
So, its malic that Republicans want to pass a clean CR to keep the government funded and wont cuck on core party principles?
>>
>>1446371
>Republicans refuse to compromise on any level
>Point out this is a show of ineptness and inability to govern as a majority party
>"uh how dare you brag about it"
Dems literally offered a partial funding to at least keep a skeleton of government funded and Repubs fucking refused. The shutdown is entirely on them and their complete inability to compromise or even agree with dems on ANYTHING.
>>
>>1446374
>>Republicans refuse to compromise on any level
There is nothing to compromise on. Its a clean CR.

>The shutdown is entirely on them
The shutdown is on the people who are literally voting against funding the government.
>>
>>1446374
You mean partial funding+everything Democrats wanted, then more money funneled directly to Democrats big corporate donors va subsidies to actually reopen the government, right?
>>
>>1446373
Why block the bill to at least fund important services like air control and military pay? This is just a display of how fucking shit the republicans are at being able to do anything other than try to ram through a dictatorship; you have infinite things to offer with control over all three branches and you can't come up with anything? Why should the other half of the country just let the other half overrule and screw them over at every turn?
>>
>>1446378
How is democrats using the filibuster (they said its racist btw) to block funding the government Republicans fault?
>>
>>1446376
>There is nothing to compromise on. Its a clean CR.
Except the impending doubling/tripling of insurance costs because Republicans refuse to do something that has 70% bipartisan approval solely because it was a dem idea.

This is how government works anon. You cannot screw over the other party at every turn and expect the system that relies on a bipartisan agreement to stay together. Dems have no reason to believe Repubs will do anything other than block every single input the other half of the country has until midterms, and since Republicans refuse to give a single concession even to avert a shutdown, there's no reason to agree to any of their funding. Any apt political party could find a middle ground and keep the machine running... but Republicans are so fucking inept they don't want to play the game; they want to take all their toys and go home because they aren't allowed to do whatever they want.
>>
>>1446378
>Why block the bill to at least fund important services like air control and military pay?
Because
>Senators also voted 53-47 against a Democratic proposal that would link government funding through October to their health care priorities and put limits on President Donald Trump’s ability to claw back funding.
>>
>>1446381
Why should insurance costs triple?
>>
>>1446378
The CR has all of the required votes to pass, if Democrats would only allow it to be voted on. Not a single Democrat proposal has the required number of votes to pass.
>>
>>1446381
>Except the impending doubling/tripling of insurance costs
For a small number of insured. About 6% of the market.
>solely because it was a dem idea.
Thats not all dems are asking for.
>You cannot screw over the other party at every turn and expect the system that relies on a bipartisan agreement to stay together.
So "give us what we want or we shut the entire government down"?
>>
>>1446380
Why do Republicans refuse to give them an inch even if it means their constituents suffer? You can only try to ignore the other party for so long until they don't want to play with you anymore; failure to compromise is failure to govern. And republicans have been so fucking facetious about EVERYTHING there's no reason to trust any word about how "oh we'll come up with a solution later" in exchange for funding. You've literally shot your own credibility so hard that unless you give a concession right now, the other side doesn't see the point of agreeing to even funding because all it will do is screw the people they represent over.
>>
>>1446387
>failure to compromise
Again: There is nothing to compromise on, its a clean CR.
>>
>>1446387
>Why do Republicans refuse to give them an inch even if it means their constituents suffer?
We'll be fine. And why let Democrats continue to boil the frog? Why don't Dems give an inch for once?
>>
>>1446386
And once again we arrive at
>Guys it's JUST 20+ million people, calm down

>So "give us what we want or we shut the entire government down"?
In rough terms, yeah, that's how this works; you keep the government operating by making it clear that the other side does still get some say in things, because they do make up the other half of the country. If you refuse to do any of that, what reason do they have to agree to any spending? You have to show you're willing to at least give some measure of what they want, otherwise they have an outright obligation to their voters to block you.
>>
>>1446391
>We'll be fine.
So what's the problem then?

>>1446390
It's not clean no matter how much you say it is. You cannot try to eliminate the other half of the country from having a voice without them blocking you. That's how the game works; learn how to fucking play it instead of throwing a tantrum about how "I'm only getting MOST of what I want!!!"
>>
>>1446392
>>Guys it's JUST 20+ million people, calm down
Yes. Why should we spend a trillion dollars on 20 million people?

>In rough terms, yeah, that's how this works;
Okay. Enjoy the shutdown.
>>
>>1446387
Honestly why did Democrats help pass the budget 3 months ago if they just wanted to shut down the government with it now? Nothing's changed since it was passed just 3 months ago
>>
>>1446394
>It's not clean no matter how much you say it is.
It is by definition clean. Republicans are asking for nothing and are cutting nothing. The CR maintains spending at current levels and affects zero programs. Thats what a clean CR is.
> learn how to fucking play it instead of throwing a tantrum
Democrats are literally throwing a tantrum right now.
>>
>>1446397
That's the whole problem. Nothing has changed, no compromises have been made; why would you keep playing a game where the other guy blocks you from doing anything? Hell, why would you keep voting for things you KNOW are against your constituents wishes?
>>
>>1446399
>Nothing has changed, no compromises have been made
There is nothing to compromise on this a CR not a spending bill. Compromises will be in a spending bill where Republicans get things in return for giving Democrats things.
>>
>>1446396
1T is 14.8% of the _annual_ budget. It is not a lot of money.
>>
>>1446398
>It is by definition clean. Republicans are asking for nothing and are cutting nothing. The CR maintains spending at current levels and affects zero programs. Thats what a clean CR is.
Except the expiring tax credits that will spike insurance prices. Which is a hardline issue; address it properly or don't expect the other party to do anything but block you. This is part of governing you fucking retard.

>Democrats are literally throwing a tantrum right now.
Which party is spending all their time with petty insults and shitposts instead of, you know, actually working to ensure the government is funded? When you're in business, you don't tell the other end of a deal "just deal with it" when they have an issue; you work out a compromise. Which Republicans cannot fucking do to save their lives.
>>
>>1446401
>Spend 14% of the budget
>on 5% of the population
Pass.
>>
>>1446400
Well right now what Republicans get in exchange is a functioning government. That's a good trade, right?
>>
>>1446402
>This is part of governing you fucking retard.
And part of governing is telling you to go fuck yourself.
>actually working to ensure the government is funded
Democrats have voted, repeatedly, to prevent the US government being funded. Democrats are, by definition, throwing a tantrum because they arent getting something in a clean CR.
>>
>>1446404
>Well right now what Republicans get in exchange is a functioning government.
Think about what you just said and consider how poorly that reflects on you and Democrats generally.
>>
>>1446403
>That will unfuck far more % of the systems and raise the entire country up in every aspect.

You magas don't think too far ahead.
>>
>>1446403
I'm begging you to campaign on "It'll only directly screw over 20 million Americans". You'll be so popular.

Republicans are getting massacred in the midterms. Imagine finally achieving all three branches firmly under your control and the government is in the worst state it's been in in over a century.
>>
>>1446394
>So what's the problem then?
Literally none. Shutting down the government is the best thing Democrats have done since the KKK IMO.
>>
>>1446409
>You'll be so popular.
Yes "we're not going to tax you to pay for someone elses healthcare" is very popular. Its been a core plank of the GOP platform for the last 15 years.
>>
>>1446407
If you're not willing to compromise on even this, there's no reason for the other party to greenlight anything. You're asking them to agree to screw over their own constituents. Republicans were given the options of "Let Democrats have one thing" or "No government" and they chose the latter. In other countries, this level of failure to address the needs of the other half of the country to the point this happens would result in a fucking reelection.
>>
>>1446364
Why do you keep making duplicate threads?
>>
>>1446415
>If you're not willing to compromise
There is nothing to compromise on. Republicans aren't asking for anything.
>>
>>1446415
And that 1 thing was a vote on the Epstein Files.
>>
>>1446417
Because they (Democrats) are getting increasingly nervous. The didn't bank on Republicans telling them to pound sand.
>>
>>1446412
And considering how you're losing special election after special election, look how that's going. Republican voters have no democrat branches to blame and are realizing they got played; their chosen leaders cannot govern and are actively screwing them at every turn. Trump gets full power and the first thing he does with it is annihilate the US's economy, sabotage the health department, and terrorize US cities in a way that Republicans were fearmongering about dems doing for years.
>>
>>1446421
What does that have to do with making duplicate threads on a dead news board?
>>
>>1446419
Refusing to deal with the issue is asking for something. But hey keep saying that; all you're saying is that you're so fucking inept you can't even understand where you fucked up.
>>
>>1446421
>>1446420
OP SUPPORTS PEDOPHILIA
>>
>>1446426
>you fucked up
We're the ones enjoying the shutdown. Y'all fucked up by starting a fight you dont know how to win.
>>
>>1446428
>We're the ones enjoying the shutdown.
So you're taking credit for it lmao. Maybe don't try to play the "This is the democrats fault!" and "We're loving this" cards at the same time. Makes you look like a dipshit, and doesn't help all those elections you keep losing ever since trump came into office.
>>
>>1446428
its only shut down because of a vote of Epstein shit.

GW shutdowns - 0
Obama shutdowns -1
Biden shutdowns - 0
Trump shutdowns - 4

This is a republican issue.
>>
>>1446431
>"This is the democrats fault!"
They are the ones voting against funding the government, so yes its their fault.
>So you're taking credit for it
No, but we're enjoying it.
>>
>>1446433
>Democrats keep shutting down the government under Trump
>this is Trumps fault
>>
>>1446434
Majority of the US blames you retard. The smokescreen isn't working; enjoy the election massacre in 2026 because Republicans have full control yet things are worse than ever.
>>
>>1446435
This time around Republicans are covering for pedos.
>>
>>1446435
Imagine being so incompetent and untrustworthy you consistently fail in negotiations with the other party. In other countries this shit would get you sacked for inability to govern; see that one british PM that lasted for less time than a head of lettuce.
>>
>>1446436
Okay.
>>
>>1446439
>shutdown government
>you did this
Interesting argument.
>>
>>1446376
>GOP owns house
>GOP owns senate
>GOP owns prez
>GOP owns SCOTUS
>GOP is going to die on the hill of "Hell no, you can't have slightly less expensive healthcare" and shut down the government for it

Real impressive work, y'all got absolutely smashed and slammed by five fucking democrats. Y'all can't even win with every card in the deck stacked. It's like watching someone with alzheimer's play with a professional deck and getting eaten alive by a precon.
>>
>>1446507
You do realize of course that duping trillions into healthcare actually makes it more expensive, right?
>>
>>1446507
Okay, have fun with the shutdown.
