“Anybody who’s played cards in a casino knows that you often play for too long, and lose whatever it is that you won,” he said. “I was fortunate enough to have to leave before that happened.”

Funny thing about that, he didn't.
The article is about his 2024 tax returns, meaning this happened last year, and the statement from his press secretary was that "he's going to donate it"...
Meaning it's been a year and he hasn't donated it and now people found out about it and so they released a positive statement.

Interestingly, it said he refused to describe how long he played cards for how much he wagered or anything about the gambling, just that he won money playing cards.

This literally sounds like money laundering. Monsters would go to casinos and launder large sums of money. They give the casino a huge stack of cash, and the casino keeps 20% and writes on paper. They won everything else gambling. In this case it was probably a bribe
