This is because illegal immigrants don't work above board, they exist entirely in under-the-table work and thus all of their social services are subsidized by the tax payer. Firefighting prices, education prices, healthcare prices, all of the things that would factor into local taxes and home ownership they are simply opted out of and subsidized by the unwilling taxpayer.

Even if it were only 5 million, you would still see an insane jump in housing costs subsidizing their existence since their under-the-table work means they can rent or own for basically tax-free. Factor in the rising taxes to keep them on the dole, and you get an instance where normal citizens are priced out of owning even crappy homes. Ideally, the number should be zero.
