https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/5629293-costco-trump-lawsuit-tariffs/?tbref=hpCostco filed a recent lawsuit seeking a full refund if the Supreme Court strikes down the bulk of President Trump’s tariffs. The big-box warehouser joins dozens of companies that have lined up for refunds in recent weeks as the high court’s decision looms. Like the others, Costco said it needed to file its own case because it is “not guaranteed a refund for those unlawfully collected tariffs in the absence of their own judgment and judicial relief.” The company is represented by law firm Crowell & Moring, which has brought roughly 50 near-identical lawsuits on behalf of separate companies. The list of companies that have recently sued include players in the auto industry — such as Kawasaki and several corporations part of the Toyota Group — food companies such as Bumble Bee Foods, and the cosmetics business Revlon. Even board game company Smirk & Dagger Games filed. It comes as the Supreme Court prepares a decision on whether Trump can invoke a 1970s emergency powers law, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), to justify his sweeping tariffs. The justices heard oral arguments last month. The IEEPA provides the president unilateral authority to “regulate” importation when necessary to combat a national emergency, but a group of Democratic-led states and small businesses are attempting to convince the court that Trump has stretched the law too far.
>>1461779Is Costco going to refund their customers the tariff surcharge? Obviously not.
>>1461779>The big-box warehouser joins dozens of companies that have lined up for refunds in recent weeksIt would be nice if they listed some of the other companies.
>>1461782I don't shop at Costco but allegedly they have been eating the cost on a lot of items to keep prices the same, particularly food/grocery. >>1461783Maybe try reading>The list of companies that have recently sued include players in the auto industry — such as Kawasaki and several corporations part of the Toyota Group — food companies such as Bumble Bee Foods, and the cosmetics business Revlon. >>1461782Costco is one of the companies that has records on all purchases available online and make most of their revenue from membership fees rather than purchases. I feel like the goodwill they could get would do a huge amount for their brand on the 'they value customers' encouraging people to sign up even more.
>>1461800>>1461782Also, when the far right was pressuring companies to drop DEI policies Costco was one of the few to tell trump to go fuck himself and not change a thing. This caused an uptick in membership enrollment since real Americans like to support groups that don't kneel to fascism.
>>1461779Republicans will spin this as a win and that Trump being the high IQ muscular overgod used the tariffs as an investment loan.
>>1461779I don't get it, leftists insisted that corporations didn't pay any tariffs. So how could Costco sue for tariffs that they never paid for?
>>1461945>leftistfar right shill still using forced meme and making a bad faith inquiry spotted
>>1461946Rule 2
>>1461976>Far right shill now seething that he's been found out
>>1461811Yeah, I’ve been thinking about that. There’s not one near me, and it’d be a very different way of shopping than what I’m used to, but it does feel like the right thing to do.
>>1461981Costco is like Sam's Club, but not run by assholes. Also the founder famously said, that if the current CEO raised prices on their $1.50 hot dog meal, he'd personally murder him.https://www.businessinsider.com/costco-founder-warned-ceo-not-to-raise-hot-dog-price-2020-9
>>1461982He might be the only good CEO in America at the moment.
>>1461779Costco is to me the corporate personification of the American Ideal. They combine sheer production power, standardisation, and genuine quality while not sacrificing ethics (too much). Every single aspect of those stores is designed to be interchangeable across the world, down to the fucking light fittings. It reminds me of how American military manufacturing worked back in WW2, carefully designed to ensure that everybody got top-tier equipment at a reasonable price. And of course the founder famously threatened to kill any motherfucker who screwed with the price of the hot dogs. So yeah I trust the fuckers with my life.
>>1462026Only because he's being held at gun point to intentionally ignore Ford v Dodge by putting customers ahead of shareholder profit. If the shareholders had their way, they'd jack up the hot dog meal to $5.
>>1462038The food is to keep you around longer, it's not a money maker by design. Even shareholders aren't that stupid.
>>1461982>Sam's clubThey have a $1.50 hotdog combo too.Probably worse management, but not the best anecdote to use for your argument.
>>1462069>have a $1.50 hotdog combo too.taste test which one is better
>>1462070I haven't tested them side to side but neither of them are the highest quality hot dogs, kind of an oxymoron but there are hot dogs better than both out there.
>>1462070>>1462069The Sam's Club hot dog is half the size, if not smaller. It's a classic case of Shrinkflation
>>1461782>Is Costco going to refund their customers the tariff surcharge? Obviously not.Thats always been part of the scam. Government levies illegal tariffs, consumers pay the costs, tariffs ruled illegal and money is refunded, companies pocket that as profit. This is what happens when you allow corporations to get away with EVERYTHING
>>1462094Imagine if we just nationalized and heavily taxed them instead.
>>1462096>heavily taxedStarting with Tesla
>>1462071Costco has legitimately good and cheap food. Especially the hotdogs.I like the chicken parm and fruit smoothies the most.
>>1462105Tax what? The company isn't profitable. It has to play financial accounting musical chairs to keep going
>>1462110Then maybe it shouldn't exist. If that forces them to admit they've been using it as a laundering scheme for Musk and co, all the better.
>>1462105Nationalizing Starlink and Tesla would be a great start along with seizing Elon's wealth.
>>1462096>and heavily taxed themwell Trump is trying to but they're suing him. And leftists are rooting for the corporations because leftists hate the idea of heavily taxing corporations.
>>1462207Tariffs are a shake down lining trump's own pockets. Also he didn't implement anti price gouging laws.Try again fascist.
>>1462207>leftists hate the idea of heavily taxing corporationsLiterally everyone should hate the idea of the president having unilateral tax power no matter who he decides to tax.
>>1462207>>1462210These are gaslighting leftists trying to pretend that MAGA is retarded enough to blame everything on leftists in the dumbest, least imaginative ways possibleDon't fall for their shill lies
>>1462109They're good for their price but I wouldn't call them legitimately good. I found the pizza slices have little crispiness on the bottom, despite the decent toppings.4ampt
>>1462212>if you question Trump's tariffs YOU ARE LE HECKIN LEFTISTSwat
>>1462254>If you want to heavily tax corporations but then complain when Trump heavily taxes corporations then you're a leftistprobably yeah
>>1462259Trump hasn't heavily taxed corporations.
>>1462260I think if you're retarded enough, heavily taxing products then screaming and demanding that corporations eat the cost is actually the best sort of heavy tax on corporations: the voluntary kind
>>1462260Do you genuinely not know how a tariff works?
>>1462265Do you?
>>1462266he's not american, of course he doesn't
>>1462265>I FUCKING LOVE TAXES!!!>No, no, no no. Not like this. NOT LIKE THIS!They're a great tool to attack Democracy and help win elections for Democrats.
>>1462287It doesn't help when the taxes go directly to line the pockets of trump. That's less a tax and more a shakedown by the trump crime family.
>>1462288Well, taxes going to corrupt government officials has always been one of the Republican arguments for less taxation. Are you saying you acknowledge the risks of taxation at this point?>No, I'm trying to win the midterm electionsAnd that's why no one but idiots take the "I fukkin' love taxes" party seriously in their disingenuous protest of tariffs.
>>1462288I should also point out that the majority of "undecided" voters are fucking idiots. So, as you know, thanks to your unscrupulous methods, you do stand a chance. However, if you were a real person with a real soul and real concerns with a real agenda, you might be concerned that your platform is more and more aligning with giant corporations like Costco, and United Healthcare and their investors. That does, of course, assume you have maturity an mental capacity to be critical of yourself. Given your posts, it's obvious you do not. Thanks for your time and understanding.
>>1462209>anti price gougingwhat does that have to do with anything we're talking about? Who is even gouging prices?>>1462260for all intents and purposes, his tariffs are a tax on corporations>>1462212Trump is heavily taxing corporations. Leftists are complaining about that and demanding lower taxes on corporations
>>1462328>his tariffs are a tax on corporationsHow cute that you think the prices aren't passed on to consumers.
>>1462328>Trump is heavily taxing corporations.he's levied 0 taxes on corporations
>>1462328>Ok they're a tax, but only on corporations!>Ignore who ultimately winds up eating the costs of that
>>1462328Just admit you don't know what price gouging is.
