Emanuel, the first chief of staff to former President Obama and a potential 2028 presidential contender, said Tuesday that U.S. kids are “way too vulnerable” to the harmful effects of social media, which he called addictive and alluring. “Parents cannot fight Big Tech alone,” he added. “Sensible regulations cut teen smoking and banned phones in classrooms to boost academic and social development.”“We’ve proven that smart steps are effective. The time for debate and discussion is over. It’s time to protect our kids and strengthen our families.”A review published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health in August 2022 found an association between adolescent social media use and issues such as depression, trouble sleeping, anxiety, body image worries and reduced physical activity. In January, Sens. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Katie Britt (R-Ala.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) introduced legislation barring children under the age of 13 from having social media accounts. The bill also prohibits platforms from using automated systems to promote content based on data collected from users under the age of 17.

For example OSA requires to prevent minors from accessing content deemed "harmful" which has an extremely broad definition that have led to the censorship of political content, news, videos of war, people's selfies, images of food, public health discussions like quitting smoking, communities discussing sexual assault or healthcare, mental health support forums, christmas ornaments, memes, music is being restricted or blocked due to the ID verification process, Xbox players have to verify their age to access online chat. Also Steam is requiring a credit card to unlock mature content and debit cards don’t work for this so you can't access 18+ games without providing a credit card. And these are just a few of the things that are getting censoring and restricted according to UK users.
