The cost of health plans on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are projected to increase by 26 percent on average in 2026, according to an analysis by KFF, a health policy research group.Enrollees on the ACA’s marketplace who receive enhanced premium subsidies are expected to see their monthly premium payments more than double if those tax credits expire in January.Schumer signaled that Democrats would campaign on the issue next year ahead of the midterm election. “The American people will not forget which way senators vote today,” he warned on the floor. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), a leading advocate for extending the enhanced subsidies, said millions of Americans will “face a crushing financial blow” when the enhanced subsidies expire.“These credits have helped millions of families, including tens of thousands of people in New Hampshire, keep their coverage and balance their family budgets,” she said.Shaheen has participated in bipartisan talks to extend the subsidies, but those negotiations have failed to produce a bipartisan bill that could get the 60 votes needed to advance.
