CNN is finding itself in a familiar place as its parent company prepares to spin the network off as part of a megamerger: President Trump’s crosshairs.

Trump has indicated publicly and privately he wishes to see CNN operate under new ownership, a scenario that could come to fruition if Paramount, a massive media company increasingly friendly with the president, wins a hostile takeover bid for the cable news network and other assets belonging to Warner Bros. Discovery.

“It’s imperative that CNN be sold,” Trump told reporters at the White House this week. “I think CNN should be sold, because I think the people running CNN right now are either corrupt or incompetent.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed this sentiment hours later from the West Wing podium, pointing to a testy exchange she had with CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins on Thursday as “evidence” the outlet is in need of an editorial overhaul.

The latest line of attack underscores the frosty relationship between Trump and the cable news channel going back years.

CNN took heavy criticism from the right for its aggressive coverage of Trump’s first term and has made attempts to balance its coverage more recently, but it remains one of the president’s top mainstream media punching bags a year into his second administration.

His seizing on the Warner Bros. Discovery sale process is signaling the president sees CNN as vulnerable and is eager to make journalists at the outlet squirm, media and political observers say.
>>
“Donald Trump sees himself as the lead shareholder in every single transaction out there,” said Frank Sesno, a former longtime Washington bureau chief and reporter for CNN. “He can weigh in in ways that no president in modern history every would, especially when it comes to how the news is going to be produced.”

Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN’s parent company, has already announced a plan to sell its sprawling movie and entertainment studios to streaming giant Netflix. The multibillion-dollar deal will need to be approved by Trump’s government regulators.

Regardless of whether its deal with Netflix clears, Warner Bros. Discovery has said it plans to spin its struggling linear broadcast assets, including TNT Sports, Discovery and CNN, into a separate entity.

Paramount is pursuing a purchase of the entire Warner Bros. Discovery portfolio as part of its hostile bid competing with Netflix.

Trump has stopped short of saying he supports Paramount’s bid, though he has suggested Netflix’s market share “could be a problem” for federal regulators. He’s also spoken glowingly about Larry and David Ellison, the billionaire father-son duo atop Paramount’s masthead.

After Warner Bros. Discovery announced its deal with Netflix, David Ellison reportedly called Trump, suggesting the agreement was not good for competition in the media sector and pledging to make major editorial changes at CNN if his bid to take over the outlet succeeds.

CNN declined to comment, but some of the network’s top talent have acknowledged the pressure the news organization is facing from the president.

Jake Tapper, one of the CNN’s leading anchors in Washington, blasted the president during one newscast this week for “breaking with longstanding precedent on the role of a president when it comes to private commercial transactions.”
>>
“He’s making his position on the acquisition very clear,” Tapper said. “Saying he’s very focused on the fate of this news network and he will involve himself in the purchase.”

Collins, another top anchor for the network whom Trump has called out by name, expressed shock at the president’s comments on the impending sale, calling it “astounding.”

CNN, like many cable news channels, has seen its ratings slump and business model threatened by an increasingly tough advertising market and more cord cutting by consumers each year.

The network was dealt a major setback during President Biden’s years in office when it rolled out and quickly shuttered a subscriber-based streaming news service and fired a CEO who vowed to move its coverage more closely to the political center.

Now its impending sale is creating an environment where press advocates warn the president or other critics in the administration can more easily send a chilling message.

“It’s none of the president’s business who runs CNN or whether it should be sold,” said Bob Corn-Revere, chief counsel at the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression. “President Trump’s comments calling it ‘imperative that CNN be sold’ so it can install leadership and produce coverage he finds more favorable is wildly inappropriate and has no place in a free society.”

A White House official told The Hill on Friday the president can express “his desire for a change in CNN’s mediocre journalistic standards, as he has done for years, while remaining neutral on the Paramount and Netflix bidding war.”

>Boomer on boomer violence
Imagine Donald's surprise when the midterms come and millennials/zoomers care more about their grocery bills than the decaying husk of cable tv
>>
>>1464919
Donald Trump would be completely irrelevant in the 21st century without Jeff Zucker, former CEO of NBC and CNN, propping him up in the public eye every step of the way.
So of course Trump is lashing out at one of the two Zucker run networks that got him where he is
It's always surprising how aggressively Trump will go out of his way to stab people who help him in the back. The MSM, James Comey, Jeff Sessions, all were instrumental in making him president in 2016, and all have suffered his wrath as thanks

>Paramount, a massive media company increasingly friendly with the president, wins a hostile takeover bid for the cable news network and other assets belonging to Warner Bros. Discovery.
Yeah, Paramount's Stephen Colbert loves Trump.

Imagine if they think voting Democrat would lower any bill.
You'd have to be an utter maroon to believe something that insane.
>>
>>1465082
Well voting Republican started a trade war that jacked up prices on everything, so it may just be a case of wanting to mitigate damage
>>
>>1465083
So, I'm supposed to do what here?
Should I argue with some retard who's claiming that higher food prices are due to tariffs?
Should I fruitless point out to such a retard Biden's ABSOLUTELY FUCKING INSANE INFLATION yet again?
No, I think the answer here is simple.
I think you simply need to quit being a faggot on my Internet. No one believes you, not even you.
>>
>>1465088
>Should I fruitless point out to such a retard Biden's ABSOLUTELY FUCKING INSANE INFLATION yet again?
That inflation that started weeks after he took office that had absolutely nothing to do with the trillions of dollars the previous administration printed and dumped into the economy the year before, right?

>>
>>1465088
If the inflation was only because of Biden then why was the rest of the world affected?

The inflation that ran at over 10% for 3 years of his presidency? The inflation that was pinned by everyone but you as being tied to the Biden stimulus specifically?
Why did The Lord even give you an opinion?

Because the rest of the world uses the USD as the reserve currency. Literally their fault.

Try telling that to Republican parents of disappointed children 11 days from now.
You can explain to their faces why they should continue to be in lockstep with cultists' wrong opinions and not get their revenge on your orange god in the midterms a few months from now.

NGL I had no idea and also pretty cool.
Colbert reminds me that leftist watched V for Vendetta and said, "Hey we should literally do that!"

>>1465177
>expect to see trump get John Oliver fired next even though he is one of the most popular and watched people on HBO.
That would be nice. The level of "left" wing propaganda being explosively diarrhea-ed into the zeitgeist should be quelled.

I still recall the time that Paramount's Stephen Colbert had Paramount's LeVar Burton, previously of Reading Rainbow fame, on to complain about DEI books being banned.
The book in question was actually designed by a publisher held by Paramount intended to be sold to public schools as Paramount was attempting to off-load the publisher at an inflated price.

Leftfags got totally on-board with this idea and were completely wagged like little stupid dogs as per usual, since the current leftist movement centers around being total corporate tools.

um actually the prices on things are normal, the "jacked up" price is a myth because the tariffs aren't even in full effect yet. CUSMA circumvents most of the trade tariffs between us mexico and canada.

I don't expect a TDS patient to be able to do research but if you'll check commodity prices you'll see the vast majority are actually around the same level if not a bit down from 2024
just scroll down the link and it shows you most consumer commodities change since last year

cheese palmoil milk cocoa cotton rubber orange juice oats rice canola sugar corn
all down some by enormous amounts
the only significant price increase is coffee wool and soybeans

I know. Because reality requiring you to take the former because you want others to do the latter shows you're a terrorist reduced to threats, and given enough power you would put everyone not exactly like you in death camps, otherwise you wouldn't say 'maybe you should consider investing in a good rope', the fact you're screeching in /news/ because Miami & Indiana proves how the process of rightards being denied the right to have socio-political power pendulum is now swinging the other way and before the midterms, you're already living in interesting times. And you've brought it upon yourselves.
How's it feel being in that very deep hole of wrong opinions you've dug for yourselves by voting in Trump, rightards? I wouldn't know about that, having the high ground: and that's even above the top of said hole you've dug yourselves into, cultists.

is behaving in a such a way that a normal sane person wouldn't. But what's happening to rightists because of everything they say, do & think is having the desired effect: seething because things aren't going their way, and they don't like it. And it's all their fault.
There's a simple solution: don't be a rightist. There are those who no longer speak, act & think like >>1465261 in Miami & Indiana: they're becoming normal sane humans. And they're not the only ones. And not only in those states. The midterms next year will prove that.
This can only be a good thing. But not for rightists. Good

>>
>>1465277

So you won't have a problem with how things aren't going how rightists want them to be, after what happened in Miami & Indiana. And beyond.
It'll onlt affect the likes of >>1465263, with the way he's seething
I don't have a problem with the way the political pendulum's swining, so you won't either if you're 'not right wing'.

>>1465287
>It'll only affect the likes of >>1465261, with the way he's seething

I'm not right wing, but I definitely will never vote for a Democrat. I'm not sure what happened in Miami and Indiana, but if they elected Democrats I feel sorry for them and hopefully the tenure of their Democrats will be short lived.
>>
>>1465289
>hopefully
Considering how Republicans voted Democrat in Miami and Republicans refused to be in lockstep with the wrong opinions of a cultists' orange god in Indiana, all those who do have a problem with the way things are going, certainly next year in the midterms, will need to fill themselves with Hopium.
For those who do have a problem with what'll happen as proved by Miami & Indiana, thus is the shape of things to come in the midterms & beyond, I feel sorry for them no I don't
