RFK Jr. unveils new ‘upside down’ food pyramid

The White House on Wednesday unveiled new dietary guidelines, with officials calling it the “most significant reset of federal nutrition policy in history.”

The new guidelines were represented with an upside-down pyramid placing vegetables, fruits, proteins, dairy and healthy fats at the top and whole grains at the bottom.

“The new guidelines recognize that whole, nutrient-dense food is the most effective path to better health and lower health care costs,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

“The new framework centers on protein and healthy fats, vegetables, fruits and whole grains. It’s upside down, a lot of people say. It was actually upside down before,” he added.

The initial food pyramid was introduced in the 1990s, showing a small amount of sugars at the top, recommending 2-4 servings of dairy, meat, fruit and vegetables in the middle, and 8-11 servings of bread, rice, pasta and other grains at the bottom. It was updated to “My Plate” under the Obama administration.

The new guidelines are laid out on a new website realfood.gov.

The original food pyramid was too grain heavy and didn't distinguish between whole and refined grains. That DID need to be fixed. But this is the 3rd time they've "fixed" it and there's always a different way they screw it up.

Part of the reason it was categorized this way in 1992 was specifically so Reagan didn't have to improve school lunches. He could keep serving slop and reclassifying tomato sauce on a pizza as a vegetable and the pizza as a grain. Real hand-rubbing tricks.

The problem is this actually doesn't fit with his guidelines; it still recommends more grains than any other individual category. Really he should've just put grains at bottom, veggies in the middle, then meat on top, but nooooo; he had to "reverse" it even though now it fails to communicate you should still be having more grains than either of the above, albeit not both combined.

Also holy fuck the UI on the site he debuted this new pyramid on is fucking dogshit. I can't get over that; it uses the fucking scroll wheel for everything and it's incredibly annoying to actually get to the info itself. Literally would get an F in web design class it's so dogshit.
