President Donald Trump sent a text on Jan 18 to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in which he complained about not winning the Nobel Peace Prize, saying he no longer will think “purely of Peace” as a result. Trump went on to assert that only a “Complete and Total Control of Greenland” by the U.S. could keep the world “secure."

Trump’s message was first reported by PBS journalist Nick Schifrin in an X post, and confirmed by Støre's office to USA TODAY on Jan. 19. The prime minister's office also shared the message exchange between Støre and Trump with USA TODAY.

“Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America,” Trump's text, sent at 4:15 pm Norway time (10:15 am ET), said.

"I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland," he continued.

Trump's message was in response to a text message Støre sent on behalf of himself and President of Finland Alexander Stubb less than half an hour before, at 3:48 p.m. local time, urging Trump to "de-escalate" on "Greenland, Gaza, Ukraine and your tariff announcement."

"You know our position on these issues. But we believe we all should work to take this down and de-escalate - so much is happening around us where we need to stand together," Støre wrote. " We are proposing a call with you later today-give us a hint of what you prefer!"

Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. Trump has said acquiring the territory is essential to U.S. national security and to "protect" it from Russia and China.

Støre on Jan. 17 pushed back on Trump's insistence that U.S. should control Greenland, saying:

"Threats have no place among allies. Norway's position is firm: Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Norway fully supports the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark," he wrote on X. "There is broad agreement in NATO on the need to strengthen security in the Arctic, including in Greenland."

Trump has long campaigned for the Nobel Peace Prize, and expressed bitterness for being overlooked.

"They'll find a reason not to give it to me," Trump told USA TODAY back in October, just two before the announcement conferring the award on Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. Machado, for her part presented her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Trump during their Jan. 15 meeting at the White House.

Trump kept the award.

Asked by a reporter why he would want someone else's Nobel Prize, Trump said: "Well, she offered it to me."

"I thought it was very nice. She said, 'you know, you've ended eight wars and nobody deserves this prize more than, in history, than you do," he said.

In an interview with NBC News, Trump rejected the idea that Norway has no influence over deciding who received the Nobel Peace Prize, dismissing the notion that the decision is entirely up to the committee.

“Norway totally controls it despite what they say,” he told NBC News. “They like to say they have nothing to do with it, but they have everything thing to do with it,” the president added.
>>
>>1479327

Asked by NBC if he would use force to claim Greenland, the president responded “No comment.”

Over the past 11 months, Trump has claimed to ended eight wars though not all parties involved credit the U.S. for the ceasefire agreements. Those include Armenia and Azerbaijan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, Iran and Israel, India and Pakistan (India did not credit the U.S. with negotiating a ceasefire), Cambodia and Thailand. During the same time, the U.S. launched military action against Iran and Syria and captured Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores following a military extraction.

Meanwhile, Trump announced on Jan. 17 that a 10% tariff would be imposed on all goods sent to the U.S. from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the U.K., the Netherlands and Finland unless “a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Antonio Costa issued a statement on Jan. 17 saying "Territorial integrity and sovereignty are fundamental principles of international law" and adding that the EU “stands in full solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland.”

While Trump has long expressed his desire to acquire Greenland saying that NATO would become "far more formidable and effective with Greenland in the hands of the UNITED STATES," multiple polls have shown that an intervention in Greenland would be unpopular. A CNN/SSRS poll published on Jan. 15, showed that 75% of Americans oppose the idea.

Americans may not like Trump's actions, but they tolerate him. There's barely any resistance to the regime. They also voted him into office twice, and it's likely that the pendulum will swing back to /pol/ if the Dems ever take office again. That's what the world will remember from all of this.

Nta, but you fucking retarded gorilla nigger. We Americans have NO say in all of it. WE have NO representation. ALL representation goes to billionaires and their corporations ONLY. Spread the GOT-damned word. Thank you.
>>
>>1479343
And that's the worst fucking part. Even if the entire GOP turned on Trump and had him executed in the street, the fact remains we elected this retard TWICE and could easily elect someone else like him again, and that stain is going to last for a very long time.

Only a third worlder would be fine with the way Trump is debasing the office of the president. They'd probably think its based.

We need to force both sides to work together or GTFO.

America is heavily propagandized. The media needs to be massively overhauled if we get through this.
>>
>>1479348
Sadly, a powerful executive is the only thing that keeps America running. Turning over that power to congress will lower the risk of a dictator seizing control, but it will also ensure that nothing ever gets done as congress can't decide how to tie its shoe nowadays, let alone how to push through major reforms. The only policies that get through are the ones that the donor class want.

yes, but he also made our country a country again. As opposed to Biden who decided that America shouldn't even exist.
I'd rather have a clownshow like this than the borderless """"country"""" we had under Biden
>>
Jesus Christ. Every part of this is a disaster, but what gets me most is
>I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace
This is literally 5 year old thinking: You refuse to acknowledge the good thing I believe I did, therefore I am no longer interested in doing said good thing. And a person like this is in charge of the most powerful country on earth.
>>1479333
Don't worry, I'm sure we in Europe are just 1-2 elections away from getting our domestic versions of Trump
>>1479348
Yeah, a big part of the damage is already done. Trump has a massive disinhibiting effect on future politicians. Plus the trust in the POTUS is completely eroded both at home and abroad.
>>
>>1479377
>POTUS is completely eroded both at home and abroad.
Liggerals did that with fake investigation, phony allegations and constant bitching. Good job, faggots.
>>
>>1479378
I'd like you to name a single country not named Russia or Hungary abroad that thinks less of America because of the investigations into Trump and his allies.
>>
>>1479352
Reinstating and modernizing the Fairness Doctrine would be a good start.
>>
>>1479378
The loss of trusts in the government by citizens is what led to Trump being elected in the first place (and is going to lead to the election of Trump-like politicians in Europe soon), but he is accelerating it massively.
As for the lack of trust abroad I could be wrong, but while I felt like Biden for instance was very indecisive in some aspects, he never gave me the feeling like the US would just turn their back on their allies on a whim. Now it's definitely in the cards.
>>
>>1479375
This. I don’t mind the rampant corruption, defence of pedophiles, enrichment of Trumps friends and family, lack of honesty and militarization of federal police, selling out to Israel, and shitposting as a form of government management as long America is white again. Dont you forget about Biden! What about Biden?!
>>
>>1479383
We're in this mess because of Biden.
Biden's Tariffs, Bidens recession, Biden's ICE killing an innocent woman by shooting her in the face. Biden refusing to call off the state police.
Biden trying to classlessly take Greenland in a way that makes Putin's invasion of Ukraine look like a jenius move
Its all Biden's fault. All of it. Forever.
>>
>>1479381
I don't think the corporate media could handle fairness doctrine
Imagine if NPR were required to spend equal time on both sides of climate change, or if they were required to spend an equal amount of time putting out messages discouraging getting vaccinated as they put out messages encouraging people to get vaccinated.
>>
>>1479381
The Fairness Doctrine was a piece of shit introduced to let Democrats have free-reign to annihilate smaller broadcasting since its inception. Part of the reason multiple Democratic presidents even existed was because of a self-admitted ongoing war which the democrats enacted against independent media to bleed them dry using endless amounts of campaign money to force them to rebut what is effectively a 24/7 stream of shit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairness_doctrine

>The right-wingers operate on a strictly cash basis and it is for this reason that they are carried by so many small stations. Were our efforts to be continued on a year-round basis, we would find that many of these stations would consider the broadcasts of these programs bothersome and burdensome (especially if they are ultimately required to give us free time) and would start dropping the programs from their broadcast schedule.[26]

If you want everything to go back to being 3 billionaire media companies who are in a stalemate with one another throwing trillion dollar lawsuits at tiny Youtube streamers because they didn't take the time to make an 8 hour rebuttal to a TV personality for violating the Fairness Doctrine, then go and reinstate it. Then don't be surprised when the only people with a voice are Republicans on Fox News platforming Alex Jones lite while suing everyone who speaks ill of him into the dirt.
>>
>>1479400
Are you retarded enough to try to claim the Fairness doctrine applies to youtube streamers?
(Its a rhetorical question, we can see the answer is Yes)

>>
>>1479450

Granted, he's not hinting that he'll build the death camps and start the wars, all the stuff that gets /pol/ hard, but he's still pushing through shit like OSA and greatly increasing the surveillance state. Either you get slow walked into totalitarianism by a bunch of effete know it all technocrats with mealy-mouthed platitudes, or you get driven off of the cliff at 200 mph by an overt Hitler-lover. At the end of the day, the elite have decided that the age of the enlightenment and liberalism is over, that the old social contract is dunzo, that peoples' lives will inevitably get worse so there is no placating them with bread and circuses, that a large number of them will be useless eaters soon thanks to automation and will need to be dealt with one way or another, and that an Orwellian state is possible now with AI and the only way to keep the plebs in line and them at the top.

The purpose of a strategic alliance is to protect each individual nation from outside threats.
America needs Greenland to secure itself from missile strikes from Russia and China. If NATO objects to this then they are no longer concerned with the security of its greatest and most dependable ally, which means they aren't allies at all.
>>
>>1479571
>The purpose of a strategic alliance is to protect each individual nation from outside threats.
So what would you classify forcibly annexation as?

But he campaigned on making a bunch of trade deals "90 deals, 90 days" and not only did he not secure anywhere near that many new ones, he ended up doing the opposite and placing widespread tariffs.

He campaigned on not starting new wars and then changed the Department of Defense to the Department of War and we are now on the brink of World War 3 with him potentially destroying NATO. You say Harris would do worse, but she wouldn't be trying to take over a sovereign territory that was already an ally in the first place.

He campaigned on releasing all the files and evidence on Epstien, yet here we sit with a million plus files sitting hidden or retracted and he does everything possible to distract from the whole situation.

So my genuine question for you is, when you voted for him, did you just assume he would back pedal on everything he promised and do the opposite? Or have you now decided that the things he campaigned on and you voted for weren't actually what you wanted in the first place?

The funny thing is you're probably not joking and think that's somehow a good long-term strategy. Anyways, maybe libtards in America are unhappy, here his fascist love has pushed things way to the left and he's turning the US into an international laughing stock which spells only good things. His speech at the world economic forum was comedy gold.

Friend, your country is an economic zone with no cultural identity and no means to defend itself. You're not even in the conversation

Some Republicans think Trump is doing things that are tough but necessary.

Remember when Joe Biden said it was going to be a winter of severe illness and death for the unvaccinated? And used this to justify a vaccine mandate for federal government employees, hitting them with the double whammy of being unemployed and facing a winter of death.
Democrats didn't seem to have much sympathy for those who faced such a dilemma saying they deserved it, they should have just got vaccinated
When people are facing down ICE, you can certainly imagine some people are thinking they deserved it, they should have just came into the country legally

My country already kicked your country's ass the last time you tried to invade and we're happy and willing to do it again. Wr also have a far stronger cultural identity, but I'm not surprised you are unaware of that as is typical for your ilk. Feel free to throw more empty insults, I'll be up here with my popcorn watching everyone in your shithole at each other's throats and waiting to see if any of you have the balls to try invading again.

Don't let my laughing at Trump's incompetence give you the impression I think your democrats are any better outside of sometimes being less boorish. Both parties are run by corrupt oligarchs who give zero shits about anyone who isn't.

Probably why all the anons on here are gassing themselves up for a war. It'd really piss off the left. Sure, there's an off chance that they may die, but man, the left are going to be screaching if we go to war with a democratic state. Many of them believe that they have no future, so would rather a quick and entertaining crash than a drawn out one.

Why do you think Americans would care what a foreigner says about their internal politics?
