A man has died after allegedly chopping off his own penis in downtown Los Angeles.

Ryan Sutherland, 31, died from "sharp force injuries," according to a case information document sent to Oxygen.com from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. The manner of death was ruled a suicide.

The incident, which caused shockwaves on the internet, occurred on March 7 at 3:28 a.m. at 1318 Figueroa Street, a spokesperson from the Los Angeles Fire Department told Oxygen.com. The scene is located near the Crypto.com Arena and the Los Angeles Convention Center. At the site, fire department personnel determined that Sutherland was deceased.
