2007 Volvo S80 V8
Bought as project, pissing oil everywhere, headliner fucked from sunroof leak, error codes for days.
99% ironed out now, been around 2 and a half years and she hasn't missed a beat
in total I've spent 14k NZD on the car including 4k on the new set of black Rotiforms, so around $8,500 US
IN TOTAL

>Is the van camper converted?
Not exactly, it's an old Mark III conversion van which means it came with a cooler, captain's chairs, and a third row seat that folds into a bed. The seating is mostly intact, albeit with the second row seats rotated and reclined to hold up the sagging front row seats, but I had to rip out the cooler because the wood frame that held it was falling apart.
The original CRT is hooked up to a playstation in my bedroom because the plastic shell holding it fell apart, currently I have two flatscreens mounted in the van instead, but I actually have two CRTs from later model vans that I plan to install in it at some point because it just feels like the right thing to do.
I'll have to figure out a different way to play DVDs though, because currently one of those flat screens is also the DVD player. I also have a playstation, and a miracast box so I can stream my phone to the screens in the van.
Oh, and I found a tiny projector at goodwill that I can sit on the dashboard to point out the windshield, which I thought was a pretty neat little trick, but it turns out that finding a white building in a dark place where I'm not going to get arrested for trespassing is a lot harder than I thought it would be.
But who else can say that they genuinely drive a Chevrolet drive-in movie theater?

The problem is height, it's a 300lb dual sport and not a light dirtbike and trying to get it up a ramp into that tall-ass bed scared the shit out of me at the time, I was a brand new rider and was really scared of slow-speed clutch control after having a horrible time with it in riding class. (Turned out the class bike was just fucked and my bike is infinitely easier to manage.) I thought the lower hitch carrier would be way easier to deal with, especially solo, but it turned out to suck and was even harder to solo since you need to hold the bike steady while the other person puts the straps on.

That's awesome, I love old sleeper van setups. The CRT's would definitely be the right thing to do.
>but it turns out that finding a white building in a dark place where I'm not going to get arrested for trespassing is a lot harder than I thought it would be
Build a sheet cover for your windshield to project on. I also want to do the projector on the windshield in my old bus, so I made some covers that just snap over the glass. I still have to get a projector, waiting for a cheap one on FB.

Windshield projecting might work but I don't think the windshield is flat enough, however I wonder if I could hang a sheet in the back of the van and sit in the second row seats because I have them facing towards the back... that's an interesting idea, actually... I'll have to remember this!
Not living in the van, hopefully I never have to, but sadly I really don't have a good place for wrenching here at my house, just a hobo freight tent pitched up over grass and a metal garage/shed type thing with a dirt floor.

Yeah, looks like that would work better than projecting it through the windshield, for sure.
Kek, thanks. It's a '67 Flxiliner. It's RV converted and is tons of fun to drive. I resurrected it after a few decades of it sitting and drove it 700 miles on its first voyage, currently going through it to make it more roadworthy. It's got a 5 speed unsyncroed manual and a 2 stroke 671 Detroit Diesel.
>>
>>28578763
That's fucking awesome, I love those old busses, riding in an RV-converted one would be SO much fun...
I'm gonna have to really lean into the road-trippiness whenever I redo the interior of my van, heh, and by then I'll've (probably) sorted out whatever is making those terrible noises at the rear axle and maybe even fixed those drum brakes, too.
I don't think I can do much about the whole 10MPG thing though...

The spoiler helps with the looks, even with the top up. But I really wanted to get a hardtop for winter season but finding one for sale is damn near impossible. Saw a quote once in a forum to make one out of fiberglass and the price for it plus upholstering was the same as what these cars go for. Was thinking of having something like pic rel done but might as well just get a coupe for the winter

Hey /o/ am I retarded if I go for this? I know the major issues with these are wiring harness and head gasket. The owner says no head gasket work, and no wiring harness work, so I’m expecting that maintenance.

I really like the car, assuming there’s no obvious issues when I check it out, I’d try to cop it for $4K and I’d be willing to drop $1500 or w/e when the head gasket blows. Besides that is there any big reason to say away from it?

Yeah deer scare the shit out of me too. I've had some scary moments where they were right on the side of the road looking like they might jump out in front of my bike. Mostly you just gotta be really vigilant and know where they might be so you can go slow and be ready to stop/evade, or where to not ride at all because they're such a risk at certain times of year. (Especially at night.)

I was stuck doing the car thing for way too long (22 years, almost all with small sporty manual cars until I got the Ranger in 2022) as well and the KLX is my first bike, only got it in April. It's fun as fuck, totally different experience from driving, but there's definitely always that element of risk and personally I'm feeling pretty choked by the KLX already, distances are just too long and traffic goes too fast for it in my area so I need to get something a little faster and with a bigger tank.

I've never owned anything truly fast, like >350hp, but I've had a lot of sporty and "quick" cars - GD WRX, Mk1 MR2, E36 M3, AP2 S2000, Fiesta ST, etc. I've done quite a bit of trackday driving and a shitload of canyons. I also spent several years working on real track and club/pro-am race cars and drove a bunch of really fast stuff there including a 900HP S2000.

Nah, not over 60. I know the Cayman drives a lot better, I didn't buy the LC thinking it was a sports car. My main concerns about switching are serviceability, annual service costs, and storage/capacity for things like golf clubs haha

Long term I think they'll both hold value pretty evenly compared to current entry points.

Really, I just miss driving a manual haha
>>
>>28596578
The golf club thing might be a genuine problem, I'm actually not sure about that.

do you own anything that's fast?
which one is the fastest out of this list
>>

Need space? Get a 911
>>
>>28596602
I look at them almost every day, I just feel like they are so boring. The default option in so many ways.

Long term I think special 718s are going to be looked back upon very fondly, especially the more analogue ones with special motors.

>>28596585
I think it's possible but not totally practical in the Cayman. I should probably just have two cars but I don't have the space currently.

Fastest on that list would be the 6.9, 0-100 in 7.4 seconds with a top speed of 140, but I'm not a speed demon.

I like comfortable cars.

The Jaguar also feels pretty sporty, if that's what I want.
>>
>>28570829
Took it to 110 mph a couple of weeks ago on my favorite stretch for speeding. It felt pretty much the same as it does at 80, if maybe a few more decibels of wind noise.
>>
>>28597168
What exactly do you drive? I could go 140mph for days if kitted out with the properly rated tires, but have other priorities, particularly when it comes to ride quality.
>>
>>28597282
I drive the 300SD most of the time. I was driving the '09 Lincoln until a scrapper dropped some garbage that took out my oil pan which, of course, involves undoing the motor mounts and lifting the engine.

Of all of them, the LeBaron is my favorite.

im pretty sure i hit some sortof a bowling ball on the highway and i think it just crushed my exhaust tips, I fucking hate poor people so much

I'm going to be installing one and police push-bar bumpers to give the car a heavy-duty aspect and protect it from the hellscape is poor people on the road.

Texas fucked everyone when they reduced not having insurance to a $175 fine.

all I remember is I was out going down the highway and i saw a big patch over the road of what looked like t-shirts but something must have been inside of them because they were too large, like as if they were sat ontop of a watermelon or something.
I heard a clunk running over them and figured it was nothing but I get to the station and this front tip is crushed shut, I pried it back open with a ratchet handle at the pump.
I kindof have fallen out of love with this exhaust and I gotta change headers for clearance anyways, I am thinking about just doing a Y pipe single instead of true duals, i think it'll sound better that way.
