You should really include the word Miata in your post, op.

is it weird that i find the NC more desirable than the ND?
>>28571647it's a perfectly acceptable cope when you're poor
>>28571750Not him but I think I'd rather have any NC over an ND1 to avoid the transmission issues. I still prefer ND2/ND3, however.
>>28571750>>28571753I just think the NC is more modifiable. You can really make it your own. The ND has the same problem as most modern cars, they’re too modern to modify in any meaningful way. Your ND will be the same as everyone else’s.
>>28571647NC doesn't have the chinkshit ricer styling plus it can actually take boost. They designed the ND to appeal to nu-male zoomer trannies like >>28571750 who thinks he's rich because he can afford a Miata lol, that's where we are at now.
>>28571180Shit. Sorry it's my first mg I made. Will do next time.
>>28571647Sorta same but not sure if it's cope either. I like the nc2/3 styling. Budget wise, I can either get an nd1 or an nc2 at the same price point. Idk honestly.
About halfway through the swap and no auto parts stores have a SPDT relay so I have to wait for Monday's delivery from amasuck. I hate that I will need to use 3 relays but if I ever want to go back to stock it's just remove and replace.
>>28572066Anything super different between nc2 and 3? Or is it just the bumpers
>>28572071Very small differences and yes mostly cosmetic. None are drivetrain related.
>>28572066I can buy anything up to an ND2 I just think I’d rather have an NC2/3 and customize it more with the end goal of the flyin Miata turbo kit.
>>28572078I just know the nc1 isn't forged
>>28573430Yeah that's why nc1s are dirt cheap, they're like 5-8k. The nc2 is much better but that bumps the price up to 10-15k
>>28573435If you’re lucky. Most of them for sale are by “I KNOW WHAT I GOT” type boomers who want $20k+
>>28573441Don't say that to me..I still have hope for a 12-13k nc2 next year
unfortunately even after replacing the exhaust gasket which blew out (which i needed to do anyway), the noise persists. this one:https://i.4cdn.org/wsg/1754241813388620.webmnoise is most prominent when i come off the throttle at well over 30mph - maybe closer to 60.but while poking around online for theories, i found pic related who said that when you come off the throttle on the NB, the propshaft lowers. is that the case? and if so, what components should i look for when i next jack up the car and look under?
>>28573457What's noise am I listening for?
>>28573460the DRRRR after passing over island.
>>28573450Maybe if it’s got 150,000 plus miles on it and a soft top. If you want a an nc2/nc3 grand touring with the PRHT it’s going to run you a bare minimum of $16k.
>>28573487I don't care about the phrt, I will spend the money for the hard top later on because of the better silhouette. I'm seeing 12-13k nc2 with 100k rn. 15k for 60k miles
>>28573465Check your muffler for cracks. Mine made an annoying howling noise. Sorry I can't hear it well on my phone right now.
>>28573487Where are you located that they are the expensive? I'm not seeing that
>>28573533Midwest
>>28573538Me too. Not seeing anywhere near these prices.
>>28573556
>>28573640Seems like that's the higher limit then for lower mileage. I found a few in the lower range that are decent. I'm okay with 100k mileage personally.
>Saw a 1993 NA Miata with only 40k miles for sale a few months ago for £3.5k>Impulsively called up and arranged to see it, before buying it the next weekend>Passed my driving test (lol)>Learnt some wrenching to swap out the rad and all the coolant hoses>Learnt some 'leccy to diagnose and replace some faulty wires to get the radio working>Managed to get a £800 insurance quote somehow, despite literally having just got my license and being a 25 year old male>Put 600 miles on the car this weekend driving with the top down listening to Classic FM>Rock solid even up to 80mph, whisper quiet and no vibrations>Took her down to the seaside to see a specialist who said it was one of the least rusty Miats he had ever seen>Found out my great-uncle Fred who was banished from the family for having an affair left me £5k in his will specifically for my first car, totally refunding all my expenditures so far>Use the leftover £1k to order a new burgundy roof>Life is goodim so happy guys
>>28573665I'm an idiot and cut the screenshot but there's another one
>>28573665>100,000 milesWell ya duh
>>28573667Happy for you, that's serendipity
>>28573669Anon $3k difference is not worth another 75,000 miles on the car. Low mileage Miata’s will have been garage queens that likely never saw snow and salt, maybe not even rain. 100,000 car has been driven through all the Midwest weather and is going to have more rust.
>>28573691>>28573682I see your point. Would you suggest flying out to purchase one from a different region in that case? I'd really like to not spend that much. Are they cheaper not in the Midwest?
>>28573667Damn, I'm happy 4 u, son.>25 year old maleThat's when insurance quotes start getting cheap for men, so not that surprising. Every year now, you'll probably find they'll drop bit by bit.
>>28573693Flying out costs money, hopefully the seller is near a major airport or you’re going to have to rent a car to get to them. If they are close to the airport you’ll have to pay for an expensive uber. If it’s far enough away to fly then you probably aren’t driving back in a single day so now you’re paying for a hotel for at least one night if not two. Since you won’t be able to inspect the car before spending the cash to fly there I’m assuming you’re going to pay for a pro to do a PPI on the car for you. There’s also potentially lost wages if you have to take time off work. Plus you have to figure that an extra 75,000 miles on the odometer is going to cost you some repairs sooner than later that would be less likely to happen on a lower mileage car. See how buying the “cheaper” car isn’t necessarily all the much cheaper?Maybe you get lucky and the stars align for you but I’d rather spend a bit more for something that’s been someone’s fair weather weekend car which is relatively close to home. Also, do you have any idea what it costs to replace the soft top? How about buying a hard top shell? Might as well just get a lower mileage PRHT and save yourself a massive amount of headache and surprise expenses. There’s a reason they’re much more desirable.
>>28573707I appreciate the info, truly. Maybe the headache isn't worth the 3k saved after all,I didn't even think about the renting the car part honestly and was willing to trust the dealer on their inspection but it was a gamble as you said. I still kinda do want the hard top though unless you can also talk me out of it. I believe it's 2800 from Mazda.
>>28573667Is it an auto or manual
>>28573667>Found out my great-uncle Fred who was banished from the family for having an affair more info required
>>28574433Not much to say.>He loved cars>He didnt care for his wife or daughter very muchHe left in the middle of the night circa ~1950 and went to live in Wales with a new woman which sort of destoyed my great-aunt's life, as it was pretty difficult for a woman to support herself + a child back then. There was the extra complication of her being socially shunned as a divorced woman in the highly-religious English countryside. In the end she found a job as a calculator for the local RAF base and managed to get her life back on track, but the rest of the family refused to ever talk to Fred again, or even mention him really. When my dad told me about the car inheritance it was the first time I had heard Fred's name in my entire life.>>28574429Sadly an auto, because the gf can't drive stick. Could always go for a trans swap down the road but desu secretly I am enjoying how easy and relaxing it is to drive it as an automatic
>>28574556That sounds very cucky. No white male actually enjoys an automatic manual swap require a lot more than the trans.
>>28574556>When my dad told me about the car inheritance it was the first time I had heard Fred's name in my entire life.wewanyway that's quite a story, i feel sorry for your great-aunt.it reminds me of a carribean black kid my (long dead) grandparents adopted in the 1960s. i don't know much about it, only that he appears in a few family photographs but in his 20s he disavowed his adopted family (racial difference probably didn't help, but i don't know full story) and tried to find his biological mum back in the caribbean, but she rejected him. he's probably dead now.
Test drove a Miata. Didn't end up picking it up because I want to look at a few other options. But it was definitely fun and I'm really considering getting it.
>>28574776congratulations on your new miata
>>28574776What color are you gonna get?
Pads finally came, brake job time >>28574556Tell her to get good. I bullied my gf into buying a manual 2nd gen Honda fit after driving autos all her life
>>28571150Miatas are for faggot ass trannies
>>28574611Man my grandparents fostered quite a few kids in their day. Every once in a while one or two of them show up to big family events.
took my nd3 in for the traction control recall today. giving the mechanic my key was the hardest thing i've had to do all year. although i guess i didn't have to do it.
>>28575542Well considering you're a wrenchlet the car is in better hands when it's not with you.
>>28573667>and being a 25 year old maleonce you hit 25, insurance rates decrease dramatically if you have no recent accidents. by then they probably figure that your brain has fully matured.
>>28575544>wrenchlet for accepting a free serviceok buddy
>>28575552Bro ...traction control recall for a sub 200hp car? You know you're a wrenchlet
>>28575553I plan to sell this car one day, so maintenance includes shit I don't necessarily care aboutAlso that has nothing to do with wrenching, that would just make me a bad driver
Well that was easily the biggest pain in the ass brake job I've ever done. The pads were pretty much fused to the calipers. I had my gf press the brake pedal to push the pads out but two of them didn't move at all. Had to use my hex impact sockets as punches and hammer the old pads out. And for some reason the pads I got from flying Miata didn't comes with new shims so I had to scrape them with a razor blade and polish then with steel wool. The rotors were practically welded to the hubs with rust, 4.5 lb hammer still needed a hell of a lot of swings. Took almost a full two hours to change the front rotors and pads. The only thing that went smoothly was rattle gunning the lock tited caliper bolts out. Put anti seize on the hubs this time, idk why they don't do that from the factory
Looking clean as hell now though
>>28575560>plan to sell this car one dayNo shit lol
>>28575593>>28575591same car? nice. looks nearly new
>>28575591the stock ones from factory are a bitch to changemine seized during cornering and I almost crashed, I eventually had to take my ND to a shop to get them changed
>>28575694Yup same car! 2021 with 32k miles on it>>28575800Fuckin yikes good job not crashing. You drive yours in the winter too?I switched the the Wildwoods after a shop quoted me 700 for a brake job, but I didn't change the rotors because they looked fine at 15k ish. I guess they thought no one would drive a Miata in the winter so they didn't use coated rotors. Got some coated Bosch posiquiets, hopefully those handle it a little better
>>28575159>>28574777Like I said I didn't end up picking it up because I still want to look at couple other cars. But I'm greatly considering getting one after the test drive. The test drive car was black but I probably would want a different colored one.
>>28575981used to until I checkd the chassis after two seasons
>>28575981does the WW kit stop it quicker tho?
the more I look at that fucking rotor the more I want to redo my complete brake system
>>28576305FairI undercoat with cosmoline rp342 every year but yeah at some point rust will take it. When the time comes I'll just buy a ND from down south and swap all my parts over to it >>28576325Better pedal feel for sure. They're much more rigid and the bp20 pads have a great bite. But how fast you stop is more a matter of tire and width. Stock brakes can still trigger the abs. The wilwoods are also lighter
>>28571150Its been 20y and I'm just now realizing it's A B C D how did I never notice that before
>>28576840You can't be serious.
>>2857598125k miles and my breaks are basically new. I tend to just aggressively downshift before turns an only brake lightly. Not done track.
>>28577061I drive my pig hard as hell, but it's really the winter that ends up killing my brakes. I replaced the rears last year and they are already getting a little crusty on the outer edges. Don't remember if I got coated rotors or not though
>>28577061Should add, my last set of bp20 pads were only half used, but I obviously had to scrap those because I needed new rotors
alright gents, I got a new AFM, and appears to have solved my surging issue.I went on a 45 minute cruze, no more surging. It still sometimes dies at idle, and seems to be running a bit rich still.otherwise no further issues. I am going to install the replacement intake I got that still has that resonator chamber, maybe that will help the stalling and cold idle.No leaks from that rear main seal, been about 1200 miles on it so far. fingers crossed.I do have a small oil leak coming from the front, might be the front seal, I did replace it. will need to investigate further
>>28577061salt belt? So many good cars would be a lot less rare if we just banned you people from having anything more than a corolla.Salties killed more classics than cash-4-clunkers ever did 100 times over.
>>28577206Blame the salt jews, not usWe don't need salt. People just need to stop being poor and buy blizzaks
>>28577119>It still sometimes dies at idle, and seems to be running a bit rich stillhave you tried resetting the ecu by pulling its fuse for 30 secs?
>>28577261And pushing the brake pedal the whole time
>>28577261I unplugged the battery for 15 minutes prior to driving it.
>>28577119I installed the OEM charge tube with that resonator, it was a tight fit. Didn't make a difference at start up, it still doesn't like to idle when cold.I'll report later after a drive.
Are there any other interior storage solutions for the ND?
>>28571180>>28572064it's in the file name so the thread should still show up when searching "Miata"
>>28577628nope, the one result is for another thread
>>28577651
>>28577659Sorry I only use the catalog
>>28577600That's lipstick on a pig
You guys don't seriously have black clutch fluid and brake fluid, right?
>>28578157Nah, it's more like a dark brown color.
>>28577659>>28577651>>28577628addendum.
>>28578157My clutch fluid turns black after a week, and I'm on my 4th set of both master and slave. No idea why it goes black so soon
>>28577600storage for what? There is space for everything a man need on a drive. Maybe you need a purse.Don't forget the secret storage box behind each seat too.
>>28578575the rf only has storage behind the passenger seat. soft top has storage behind both.
This little shit is lucky I like driving it
>>28578157No because I fully flush those systems every 2 years like you're supposed to>>28577600Just put shit in your trunk? Why do you need a bunch of garbage storage in the cabin?
>>28577600somebody made a storage thingy that goes in the cupholder slots. I wanted to buy one from them at matg but it completely slipped my mind. i can't find it but if you end up seeing it somewhere and you have a 3d printer I'm pretty sure the creator released the design publicly.
>>28577600>>28578796I found it but I think I imagined the part about the creator releasing the design publicly https://evilpulpo.com/products/mx-5-nd-center-console-cupholder-and-accessory-storage-tray
>>28577600>>28578796>>28578819never mind, found that toomakerworld.com/@pulpo
>>28578697what does your rancid miata smell like haha
>>28579035r134a
Muh airbag switch is gone now, replaced it with a seat heaters switch from the UK and used another driver seatbelt with the built in switch as the activator. Ignore how filthy the car is, dirt seems to collect under the center console.
Thanks for the suggestion random anon
I found 17" Mazdaspeed Miata racing hart wheels for $450. should I pick up the set for my ND? it's a few hours drive away
>>28580774actually these are the wheels I found, first pic I posted was from Google images and looks a little different
>>28580777Those are 05, the first ones you posted were 04s. I am looking for another set of 04s for myself. Mine are painted though.
I am not a fan of putting older OEM wheels on modern cars and vice versa. The styling rarely matches up.but that price aint bad
>>28580882Looks nice. did you paint them yourself? >>28580940I looked up pics of other NDs with the same wheels and I thought it looked pretty good. Although I think this pic has 04 wheels and my car is jet black, but I think it should look much better than my OEM black rims
>>28580972No, I had them painted about 15 years ago. Royal pain in the ass when I get new tires, have to talk to service guy and make sure they know they are painted. Had the backsides repainted because some numbnuts put hammer on weights. Thanks Independence Mazda!
>>28580972that looks bad to me, but i also dont like those wheels with the stupid curved valley in each spoke. im not a fan of busy wheel design.
Still looking for another 1.8 to swap in. Only guy that seems to have them in Michigan is asking $3.5k and at that point I would just buy the kpower swap kit.
>>28581922>>28581922eBay, get the high comp JDM engine and trans for that price. 6 speed even.
>>28581922You can have my BP4W that needs a head rebuild if you come get it in TX
>>28581963As someone who did exactly that, I would highly recommend that combo, except to only use the 6 speed if you swap the diff too for a 3.9 ratio at least, or go all out and ship a 3.6 from overseas. The 3.6 is what I did and it's absolutely the perfect gearing. The NA8 4.1 will be completely inappropriate with the shorter gearing the 6 speed has. There's a 3.3 gearset available too that fits too but I don't think I'd recommend it unless you make significantly more power than stock, the low speed performance would be unsatisfactory to put it nicely. I drove the 5 speed with the 3.6 (similar gearing to 6 speed+3.3, but a bit taller) for a few days before I could do the rest of the swap and it completely changes the character of the car for the worse.
>>28582000How hard was it to swap the diff? I have new diff bushings and have been putting off installing them because I hear it is a pain in the ass.
>See a perfect stock one for sale for a reasonable price>Call the guy that sells it>Some other guy already managed to reserve a time to look at it before me>He buys itGodammit now my day is ruined.
I hate this weather here. Means that I have to ignore any Miata listed without a hardtop unless I want to only drive during summer. Or if I see one that doesn't have the hardtop I add 2k to it's asking price in my head.
>>28582520...Where do you live that a hardtop is mandatory because of the weather?
>>28582531Finland. I do not want to drive at -30 Celsius (-22 Fahrenheit) with a soft top.
>>28582545wear a jacket
>>28582477Putting the powerplant frame back on the diff was the worst part, other than that pretty standard. If they haven't been out before, the axles won't want to budge out of the hubs easily, but there's room to pull them both all the way out of the diff if you disconnect the sway bar links and upper control arms from the knuckles without removing the axles from the hubs. Not a small job for sure, but I had it done in a few hours. Make sure to get an alignment afterwards.
>>28582520Aren't hardtops ridiculously cheap in Europe compared to the states?
>>28582587They are cheapest in the UK but after Brexit they are not really an option. In rest of EU I often see them for like 800-1000 but then I'd have to add shipping costs since they don't appear here in Finland often. I guess 1.2K would be more accurate price.
I really like the look of Miata's but the storage always gets me. I'm on the fence of just getting a GR86 instead. Also I never plan to ride top down.
>>28582586Hmm, looks like I will be searching for a 4.30 to send to swap in at the same time then. Thanks anon. I've seen the YouTube videos but I have learned when they show how it's done it has been done before and they don't show how hard it is to break free initially.
>>28583517I don't have a problem with storage, and top down means infinite storage so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>28583753Are you the kind of person that straps mattresses to their car roof and shopping carts of junk onto of it?
>>28573667Nice. You stole it. Start collecting a 93LE interior. Silver with the red interior looks great.
The 124 Spider is a couple grand cheaper than the ND2, are there any glaring reasons why?
>>28583868It's hideous and it has a fiat badge
>>28583868the engine and has barely any aftermarket for the body.
>>28583757No I have my mattress delivered like a sane person.
>>28583750I think it'll be easier to drop the entire rear subframe. You can clean everything up too, and paint it needed. Maybe even find more issues to fixAlso gl finding a 4.3I ended up with a 4.1. Honestly could not tell the difference
>>28573457I still can't locate the source of the noise. And I've noticed a front wing has zero stone chip paint on the underside, leading to chip and rust damage and a small hole. So I need to take the panel off and either repair it or replace it.
>>28584804Every 5 speed US market NB has a 4.3. I have a 4.3 open that needs a home if anyone wants it.
>>28584972Pretty sure all na6 had 4.3 and all other 1.8 had 4.1 except autos which has a 4.3 open and a few special edition models that had a 4.3 lsd
>>28585296Yeah all manual NA6 had 4.3s as well but they're the smaller 6" ones (and none of their viscous LSDs are going to work anymore by now either).
>>28585307Also uses a different driveshaft and axles, where NB and NA8 use the same ones
Yeah I would be doing a 4.3 with torsen or OSG if they go on sale. I am doing full NA build and not turbo.
>>28585308ok right, so proper 4.3 are hard to find.
Finally, more power
>>28586660Going karting?
>>28586688Needed something to control the VVT in my swapped NB1
Is this excess play on the propshaft? (2002 NB)From the propshafter section in my Haynes manual:>any movement at all in the joint is a sign of considerable wearI haven't done any other testing other than in the webm.
>>28587012That's normal, what you don't want is movement between the driveshaft and the yoke coming out of the transmission. What your video shows is just turning the output shaft back and forth a little.
>>28587022That would be if it can be pushed up too easily?
>>28587028It would look like this, the driveshaft moving before the yoke does.
>>28587174Not that anon, but that UJ is most certainly fucked, and quite badly, too. I'd definitely avoid driving until you get that sorted.
>>28587189Oh yeah that video's 6 years old, I replaced that driveshaft right after. Just an example of what you don't want to see that I had on hand to show.
>>28587174Thanks I'll check for this tomorrow.
>>28587197Oh fuck, right, sorry. Thought you were the same guy asking what wrong. I'm a tit.>>28587200From your video, it looks like you have play in the output shaft itself, rather than the UJ. If that shaft is tight with whatever that shaft is going into, then the prop side of things is fine, but If you can feel the shaft moving independently of whatever it's going into (as if the splines on the shaft are worn and not tight), you have a problem. Linear movement of the whole prop is fine, as it's designed to move back and forth a little on the yoke, but lateral (twisting) play is not fine. There shouldn't be any play from the prop input / output shafts, at least not to that degree.
how do you do, fellow WRXs
Finally got westhertech floormatsBreddy nice
>>28587217I checked again, there's no other movement. So I guess propshaft is fine and isn't the source of intermittent grinding. I don't think the tube is rubbing against anything either, no obvious sign of damage for that.
>>28587229the WRX-5
ND bros, how long did you make it before your AC needed a recharge?I don't have one of the older models affected by the weak pipe fitting, but 4.5 years in and it's getting weak as hell, especially if I'm parked. Getting a recharge and the smairbag recall sorted out next week
>>28588564I wish you well anon but 99% of ND owners near me are dicks. My NB just got it's first recharge this spring. I am pretty sure it's the o rings on the shrader valves finally letting go.
>>28588686It does seem like I'm the youngest nd owner in my area, everyone else is a boomer having a midlife crisis. Most of them don't wave back. Older gens usually do.Anyways, that's a pretty good run if it's the first time your nb has needed it. I can't buy r134a over the counter so if the recharge doesn't last long I'll have to have the dealership figure out where it's leaking from. Really don't make ac systems like they used to. My shitbox civic blew cold till the day it went to the junkyard
How do I fix this?
>>28588564had same problem. My 2019 AC still 100% full, clean filter mesh and dont be lazy also remove blower fan.
i want to smell ur miatas
>>28589055
>>28588935Your best bet is some glue where that glue failed. How old is the top?
Finally found the stupid front end clicking. When I rebuilt the front suspension the passenger strut lower bolt was tightened to mid spec but I used anti-sieze on every bolt. The bolt backed off just enough for the strut to get a bit of room to make a click noise when going over speed bumps and road imperfections. Damn, that was two months searching for it and I thought it would have been my FM adjustable end links. It was nice and cool outside so I went for an evening drive and fuck me are everyone's headlights on high or what
>>28589296Idk. It was from a junkyard. It looks aftermarket
>>28588934Whoever installed the top didn't pinch that listing (the fabric bit that's hanging) back into the metal retainer on the soft top frame bow well enough. Make sure the two pieces of the listing with velcro are straight with each other. Gently (with your fingers only) pry the retainer just a smidge more open all the way along its length, insert the flat plastic end of the listing into the metal retainer, and smush the retainer back down all down its length (again, with your fingers only, no tools). https://revlimiter.net/blog/2011/07/robbins-cloth-top-install/
>>28589529It should look like this when you're done.
>>28589529Yeah I figured it went into that metal tube. So just slide it back in there and pinch it closed?
>>28589959Got it in there, pinched the lip.Now the top is very tight and hard to latch. Are any of the latch bolts sloted? I'm currently sitting in the hot sun warming it up. I rarely use this top btw.
>>28590119The latches have a little bit of adjustment in them. There's also a little bit of side to side adjustment in the driver's side striker (the metal bit on the windshield frame the latch engages with) if necessary. Also, look at the latches on the top where they poke into the cupped part of the striker, there should be a little plastic cap on the soft top side. They crumble to dust over the years and fall off, and someone may have adjusted the top tighter to compensate. https://www.rspeed.net/product_p/nab-706335.htmhttps://www.miata.net/garage/latch_adjust.html

I realised that the PPF might be out of alignment, thus causing the grinding sound. Anyone ever fitted one?
>>28590362>>28590355That's crazyI live in the rust belt and have never had a bolt I couldn't get off with my impact or a breaker barPutting antisieze on messes with the torque specs. Just spray the bolt head with cosmoline after you torque it down, to keep moisture out, if you're so worried
>>28590604I have, any questions? https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=351758
>>28590610How did you make sure the alignment was correct? My Haynes manual says the distance from PPF to frame rails should be 60mm to 72mm.I won't be removing the PPF (I can see its out in your photo) but will it just be a case of loosening (not removing) the bolts and then adjusting the alignment before tightening the bolts? Or will they need to come out entirely?
>>28590610Also: what torque setting for the bolts if you remember?
>>28590688Get a straight edge (a ruler, something skinny and flat like a serpentine belt tension tool, etc) and hold it flat to the frame rail with a jack, and one end of the straight edge going underneath the transmission where the PPF bolts to it. Loosen the three PPF bolts (but don't remove them. two big long ones, and one small one under the shifter). With another jack, raise or lower the transmission until the distance between the PPF and your straight edge is 60-72 mm and tighten the bolts down. Pic related has the torque specs.

Speaking of door seals and such, what should I put on them to keep them protected? Also what can I put on my dash to make it less shiny. I hate that all it takes is a wipe with a dry microfiber cloth for it to reflect on the windshield

Honestly idk why the nd2 tpms doesn't tell you which tire is low or what the tire pressures are. I usually set 28 front 30 rear so when it gets real cold they all get low, but it's hard to say whether that's the issue or if one picked up a nail without checking them all

>>28595190I feel like after 8 years you might, especially if you don't let it stretch it's legs often

Got the fog lights swapped over. The pins they give you to stick in the stock plug is janky and NOT waterproof at all! I snipped the OEM plug off the harness and light and replaced it with a tyco plug I have that is waterproof. OEM was black and white wire, fog was black and red. Yeah apparently putting the two black wires together isn't the correct way, so against logic
The distance between the PPF and the frame rails on my NB looked to be 52mm which is 8mm off the minimum. I've adjusted it to what I think is 66mm (these are all approximate because getting precise measurements all on my own was tricky). I have other things to do on the car while its jacked up but I hope next week there's no more grinding sounds.
what should i check when buying a NB/NC miata?i would probably have to go to another city to buy it, so i wouldnt know any mechanic to check, should i go to a random one?

Just had to drive my ND2 through some deep water on my way to the grocery store. Completely unexpected and had no way to turn around, it rained like 5 hours ago and I never saw that area flooded before. Anyway the road was slanted a bit, hard to say but I think the water was probably 2 inches deep on the driver side and maybe 5 or 6 deep on the passenger side. Had to drive through it for maybe 10 feet. Any ideas of parts or electronics that might be fucked? I can't think of anything except maybe water got in the differential. Car seems fine but idk
>>28597018It's probably fine. It didn't reach the door and get inside did it?
Fak, I went to clear my headlights with those scrubbing sanding pads and I think the 400g pads bit too hard. I was trying to avoid spraying clear on them but they look better when they are wet now and when they dry they kinda glaze over like a blind dudes eye
>>28597114400 grit is pretty standard. Go back and wet(!) sand it with more 400 until it's evenly cloudy move up to 800, then 1500, a liquid plastic polish, and finally seal it with clear. While you're wet sanding, make sure it stays soaked the whole time and rinse often. I use a spray bottle.
>>28597080No, it wasn't quite that high. Still curious what else might be vulnerable under the car though. Luckily the air intake is really high up so at least I don't have to worry about the engine probably. I don't know exactly where the transmission breather is but I'm guessing it's probably safe too. But idk. It's a fairly low car so I'm pretty bummed this happened
>>28597136That is probably what happened, it got dry on a pass. I did it mid-day in the sun if that helps. Going to go get some of that turtle wax headlight restore stuff tomorrow, good reviews and comes with a two part sealer with cure/hardener
That's it I'm going crazy with rust prevention this year.Ordered 3 cans of Eastwood internal frame coating plus6 cans of cosmoline rp342, an undercarriage pressure washer foam cannon dealio, and 2 bottles of ammo boost anti salt.Gonna do like 75% boost w/ 25% soap and blaster the under carriage. Then rinse it reaaaaally good, getting in all of the frame holes and such to get as much shit out as I can. Let it dry in the garage for a good 24 hours. Hit every orifice with the IFC, then tape plastic bags over the brakes and blast every thing else with the cosmoline
>>28597805how long until you need to reapply?
>>28598022Icf is pretty much one and done afaik, maybe every few years to be safe342 is an every year sorry of thing just to keep it all coated
>>28598045>one and doneI'd never take this approach to rustproofing. My 2002 NB has rubberised underseal which has been on there for years, I don't know how long. By the time I bought the car it had peeled off in places so I had to remove some of it to gain access to where rust patches had formed - sand it off and put something else in.There's always a big debate about which product to use but imo just inspect it every summer and apply new stuff. Most of the mystery aged rubberised underseal has worked fine (ofteh then I peel some of it off to inspect an area, the metal underneath is completely flawless), the only problem with ANY method of rustproofing is mindset.

>>28598056I'm not a fan of the rubber coating either, I like seeing rust so I can deal with it. Cosmoline is good because it's just a wax coating to keep surfaces dry.Pic rel is what they say the internal frame cost does. It's for inside of body panels that you can't see or do anything about. And they claim the ifc plus is rated for 1k hours of salt spray. So you clean the rails as best you can, let it dry, spray it inside and let it do its thing against any rust that's already there. Then either do a cavity wax coating over that or just reapply that every so often as it breaks down from road salt.https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-internal-frame-coating-plus-with-nozzle.htmlSeems like the best option for areas you can't actively monitor or do anything about

>>28571647>is it weird that i find the NC more desirable than the ND?I saw the ND and found out about Miatas, I really loved it. I bought an NC because it was basically 1/4 the price. But since owning it there are several people who have told me they prefer it to the ND in looks. I still don't agree, but the NC has grown on me. The NC does have a few advantages actually, much roomier interior with four cupholders (real ones), a glovebox, and hydraulic power steering that's superior to even the ND3. NC's also have basically no flaws. Every single year is dead reliable. You can swap in a 2.5 liter engine easily, and there are great turbo options. NC has a lot to love and it's a dramatic improvement on NA/NB in terms of engine and chassis.
>>28607088I bought one without knowing because my dad said he would teach me, but I ended up learning from YouTube. at least he drove it home for me when I bought it. my advice is to at least find a way to get it home, then learning is easy.

>>28610097>im bored of having a convertible after 5 years. Just more things that can fail, more sun exposure (bad), and more noise (need earplugs for anything over 50mph)I get that, I think about a coupe sometimes too, but then I have nice summer days where I put the top up for the highway trip out to the hills nearby, then drop it and cruise through the forested mountain roads, I can hear the birds in the canopy above, it's fucking great. It's really something else. If it gets too hot or cold I can put the windows up and use heater/AC, if I go on a highway I can put the top up real quick. It's really the best of all worlds. An ND RF is actually 1 decibel quieter than the GR86 on the highway, by the way, per Car and Driver testing.
>>28610097>need earplugs over 50mphI have seen this statement in a few places but it surprises me, it really doesnt match my experience with my NA - I find its very quiet at 50 with the top down - even at 70 I can have an easy conversation with a passenger, albeit raising my voice a little of course. when you say its noisy, is it the road noise of the car itself, or the other traffic which causes the noise?I did put fresh tyres on immediately after buying it, and I live in a posh rural part of bongland so there are high-quality roads and not much HGV traffic, so maybe these factors are what makes the difference in my case?
>>28610202Same, I usually have top down no earplugs at like 70-80mph, above that it's doable but a little uncomfortable. Also you can put the side windows up, helps a lot. I use earplugs on my motorcycle all the time though.
>>28610202The wind noise, how loud i have to turn the speakers up to hear music over it, etc.The thing about hearing damage is it's a cumulative thing. I need to repaint my rocker guards on my NA.What do people use? There seems to be no consensus. The rocker paint seems to be the only thing preventing rocker rust, so I'm guessing something chip and rust resistant, but there's a texture from factory right?
