I've never driven a car with an automatic transmission before. It's so much easier than the manual, reee.

By the way, I spent a couple of minutes trying to figure out how to turn on D and R (in this car, you need to hold down the brake to turn on R)
>>
>>28591179
>(in this car, you need to hold down the brake to turn on R)
why the fuck were you not already doing that?
>>
>>28591189
I do not know if this should be done in a manual transmission.
>>
why
>>
reminds me of this one time i tried to fart but i shit my pants instead.

That's me
>>

>>

>in this car, you need to hold down the brake to turn on R
>Anon uses a modern vehicle that needs you to hold the brakes for the first time and gets completely bamboozled
Is this some kind of game about how to spot the poor shitbox user?
>>
>>28591702
What's wrong? I have manual car right now.
>>
>>28591194
It's just weird not to be stopped and holding the brake to put it in reverse to me. Sounds like a bad habit you picked up.
>>
>>28591744
The manual transmission does not require you to apply the brakes when you turn on the gears. If you're not rolling, it's not even dangerous for the box.
>>
>>28591763
Again it just seems like a weird bad habit.
>>
>>28591179
are you the guy with the knockoff chinkshit scion xb
>>
>>28591765
You can't release the clutch and step on the gas to get going while holding the brake. You have two legs.
>>
>>28591768
Maybe I'm just fundamentally misunderstanding what you're saying exactly
>>
I’ve never driven an automatic car before but I tried it in Assetto Corsa.

I think most driving schools just teach you to use the handbrake with manuals.
If the car doesn't have a manual handbrake, it probably has some kind of hill-start assist.
>>
>>28591179
Anons saying it's normal are wrong or only drive modern cars.
I rented an autotragic Nissan something or another a couple years ago on a trip and it required having the brake depressed for absolutely everything. The number of annoying nannies just reaffirmed how much I hate modern cars
>>
>>28591777
Checked but to do heel-toe the pedals have to be designed to allow it. Usually the gas pedal sits in the air and too deep and you have to use the left and right sides of your upper foot to press them both.

Heel toe is only for flexible non-obese, typically Asians.
For wide foot Americans, it's just rocking the front of your foot.

I don't think cars with manual transmissions will have an electronic handbrake.

Are you the anon that argued in another thread that with manual transmission you don't have to press on the brake pedal after stopping and switching to neutral? The car standing with no brake system engaged is a rolling hazard, it's the most basic thing they tell you in any driving school and probably in the traffic code of your country as well.
>>
>>28591812
What? They already have.

Yes!

How did you know?

>>28591770
But he >>28591777 does
>>
>>28591697
> He's probably used to park with the hand brake engaged
In fact, I put the car in gear because I'm not very sure about the reliability of the handbrake. My car requires you to pull the clutch to start the engine anyway so its safe.
>>
>>28591817
And how to start uphill without a handbrake
>>
>>28591833
If it has some kind of assist function, the car will hold the brakes for you until the clutch bites, so you can have your right foot on the gas already.
Alternatively, just switch your right foot from brake to gas faster than the car can start rolling downhill. Works better if the engine doesn't stall too easily.
>>
I got my license on manual and drove manual car for 3-4 months.
Then I tried automatic and never returned to manual.

I hate all the boomers and their
>It feels better
>It's more engaging
bull shit. And I hate myself even more for falling for it.
>>
>>28591833
I never got why this was a big thing. are you that goddamn slow that you can't start on a hill with minimal rollback?
>>
>>28591851
maybe you just don't really like cars?
manual is undeniably more engaging, and in cars worth owning, faster than autotragics.
>>
>>28591861
In a manual, it's a good way to stall the vehicle if you don't reach the biting point in time.
>>
>>28591872
sounds like the classic skill issue
>>
>>28591833
Just lift the clutch until the RPMs start to drop, then switch from brake to gas quickly
Got taught this way from the instructor, he said that using the handbrake is for pussies so won't teach that method
>>
>>28591912
>Got taught this way from the instructor, he said that using the handbrake is for pussies so won't teach that method
based
that's what I do too. worked fine for me when I drove through seattle with some of there horrendous hills
>>
>>28591912
>>28591919
Yeah, that works most of the time.
If you're not familiar with the clutch, just find the bite point first by slowly lifting the clutch until you can feel vibration, the engine's sound changes a bit and/or the RPM gauge wiggles.
Just don't keep it there for long. Press it in a bit if you're not ready to go immediately.

I've only used the handbrake in dangerously tight spaces where the car really can't be allowed to roll even a little bit.

It's a good way to learn how to confuse pedals. For what it's worth, I forget that 95% of Americans use their right foot for gas and their left foot to brake.

mine does
>>28591833
If you insist on starting with the parking brake on, the electronic brake will automatically release when it detects that you're trying to go forward.

The trvke is that some cars are better with manuel and some are better with automatic
for slower econoboxes just give me a damn slushbox so i dont look like a retard tryhard boyracer
for fast cars i can appreciate the power going through a manually operated transmission

I enjoy manual threads because there is always some new of form of misunderstanding in them.
>>28591833
Most manual cars made in the last 15 years have auto hill-start assist. It will hold the brakes until enough power is being made to overcome the braking force where it will then release them. And for some reason even automatics have this too.

Or you could just operate the clutch faster to get it in gear before you roll back. I used to drive a manual Toyota Pickup in San Francisco as a final mile delivery driver. I had to get real good real quick.

Heel and toe is also a bit overrated. Not just because most manuals have auto revmatch but because most of the time you downshift its while slowing down. Just hold it at the bite point for a moment longer so the engine RPMs match the wheels.
>>
>>28592747
i thought the trvke was that it really is subjective because if you already hated stop-start traffic in an auto a manual will not change that
>>
>>28592799
>And for some reason even automatics have this too.
modern automatics have much less torque converter creep or even none at all
>>
>>28591189
I have to say I quite enjoy just going from reverse to neutral and then as the car stops moving right to drive without ever touching the brake

No. It's hard for Americans to understand that 95% of cars with a manual transmission are very low-end B-class cars from Europe, like Renault Logan or even cars from Russia or Iran.

Autotragics TCMs are programed that way so normie cattle don't kill themselvs or the transmission doing the dumbest, blackest gorilla retard shit imaginable. They literally designed automatics as if they will be exclusively operated by an inferior form of being.

youre insane. automatics are so much worse than manuals because of their fucking FORWARD CREEP!
UGH its the absolute worst thing in cars. there is nothing more retarded than having the vehicle move forward on its own without pedal input.
I recently had to drive my gfs Camery in heavy traffic. fuck me, forward creep should be banned.
in a manual, I go into neutral or clutch in, apply very light pressure to the brake pedal and the car will gradually come to a stop after which I can let off the brake pedal and it will stay still.
in a fucking automatic I have to fight the fucking creep every fucking time. I press on the brake pedal, car continues to move forward. it doesnt come to a stop, the creep rate slows down, but the car continues to move on its own. I have to push the brake pedal a 3rd of the way down where you really start to get pedal resistance and then FINALLY the car comes to a complete stop.
if I let of the brake pedal just a little, it will start fighting me and start moving forward again. the amount of brake pedal pressure required to stop the car from moving forward is bonkers.
I never had my brake foot get tired from this, but holy shit the ball of my feet was fucking sore after 30 minutes of this.
its all non stop heavy application of the brake pedal or gas. brake, gas, brake gas. nothing in between.
how do you autofags tolerate this nonsense? not to mention the constant jitter when the car comes to a complete stop, there is no way to avoid that. you cannot control it with brake pressure.
ive had nothing but recurring nightmares where the vehicle will not stop nor matter how hard to slam the brakes down, it will keep inching forward.
fuck automatics to death

You can, but you really shouldn't.

Something is wrong with the brakes, it shouldn't take 1/3 of its travel to overcome idle creep. Maybe idle is higher than normal too.
>how do you autofags tolerate this nonsense?
All of mine don't require much pressure except maybe the older truck and only in low range. In slow traffic it's just working the brake pedal lightly.
>constant jitter when the car comes to a complete stop
