I said, unaware that a Mechanic had fucked whoever designed the c4 Corvette's exhaust system, and that's my fucking problem now.>struggle for 2 days to remove the bolts that hold one of the catalytic converters onto the passenger side bracket, chopped the driver side off because fuck purism>go to remove c-bar only to realize GM used 4 through bolts that have 2 different sized ends (15mm and 18mm, no I don't care to use SAE Standards, kiss my nuts and gargle my balls)>Rebuild-reinforce-reinstall>go to start>STARTER GRIND!!!! :333333>shimmy shimmy yay time bc its still basically a sbc>runs fine, pending next failureentire time I realize the C4 is made for me, and I wonder who I have to throat punch at GM for designing it this way
The c4 is one of the worst designed corvettes ever made for servicing. I'm sure modern ones suck too, but from c1-c6, c4 is easily the least user friendly.Should've gotten a c5, they actually hired a real human to design the engine bay.
>>28591469op found out the hard way why c4s are still sub $10,000second biggest boomer moneysinks after boats
>>28591480The real affordable sports car isn't the Corvette; it's the journey of owning one
>>28591480They're also slow and ugly which doesn't help If I want a slow corvette I'll get a c3If I want a fast corvette I'll get a c5 If I'm poor I just won't get a corvette
>>28591476I would've gotten a C5 if the market for them near me wasn't horrid or non-existentI personally don't have a problem with the engine bay (yet), its nice actually being able too see things and not have to cram my hand into a tight Japanese robo-hole everytime I need to work on something
>>28591469>(15mm and 18mm, no I don't care to use SAE Standards, kiss my nuts and gargle my balls)wasn't familiar with c4s, didn't know they were made during the transition period from sae/imperial to metric. what fun that must've been. can't imagine working on bikes though. metric, sae, bong standard, bong whitworth...
>>28591493 yeah it's fucking great!A great reason to add onto a suicide note. One minute you're searching for whatever 1/2 socket you can find, next minute you're wondering who thought 15mm was a good idea for bell housing bolts. Swear to God, Chevy must have just got bored and invited Ford engineers to build a Vette
>>28591480>second biggest boomer moneysinks after boatsWhere do turdgen Firebirds and Camaros come in?
>>28591469similar story>buy 1994 Buick Roadmaster Estate>have to install new thermostat so car stops overheating AT IDLE>drive it for literally 2 tanks' worth of gas>transmission blows up>get it rebuilt>blows up again because there is a hairline crack in pump housing>get it rebuilt again>starts feeling like its going to blow up again>sell car to enthusiast that manual swapped it immediately>lose my shirt on this fucking thingi hate GM so much
>>28591469That sucks, I love mine. ZF6 feels great, drives like a go-kart but also feels stable at 130 mph+. I've taken it on multiple 1000+ mile trips. Cosmetically mine is totally dicked up but it drives fine.
I loved my ‘92 but the auto tranny was so unbelievably dogshit and it ended up blowing after I changed the ATF for its first time at around 120K miles. Previous owner was clearly a retard.I thought of doing as you did OP and rebuilding it but it just wasn’t worth the hassle of pulling it out. Great car but only in manual as >>28591926 has it. I live in Canada and even here it had problems keeping cool, but as long as I kept moving it was alright, if not pretty cool at speed.
>>28591469I've been torn between a C4 and an A70. I like the body styles and the thought of a fast gt car is nice, but is the C4 really this bad or just certain years?
>>28591469>buying a 90s automaticno one to blame but yourself, I haven't ran into anything difficult to work on. i've dropped the transmission for a clutch replacement, rear end for seal replacements, entire suspension for bushing replacements. its been one of the easiest cars to work on that i've owned.>>28591476i dont believe you. is pulling the rear subframe and torque tube that easy? having to deal with the torque tube is the only thing keeping me from getting a c6.
>>28591926>Cosmetically mine is totally dicked up but it drives fine.lol got a pic? well-used-but-still-looked-after is one of my favourite looks

>>28592263Paint is totally fucked, door panels need to be replaced/rebuilt, seats are torn, but it runs great.

>>28591469C4 Corvettes are were one of the most advanced cars at the time. They're not easy to work on though. Compare that to a third gen of the same era and it's a night and day difference.
>>28591469>only to realize GM used 4 through bolts that have 2 different sized endswhat's wrong with this? this way you don't need 2 of every wrench.
>>28592024All jokes aside, the manual c4s are great once you do all the supporting cooling mods. Outside of that, get an A70
>>28592344I believe the word is Retard, not faggot
>>28591686They're included in "boats"
>>28593453It just becomes an inconvenience because you expect there to be the same sized bolts, and because you can't visibly see the other end, you end up getting up from under the car 5 times until you get the right size
>>28593369>>28593371lol nice

isn't it a privilege to wrench on older cars? sure they can become more technically demanding, but that is what expands your skillset as a le "self-taught grease monkey". you're allowed to complain, sure, as that comes along inherently with wrenching, especially on older stuff, but i think you should reframe your perspective on this entire situation and see the opportunity and potential for growth that you wouldn't be allowed with a tame car. therein is your pride, your overcoming of adversity. some people straight up own shitboxes with crazy amounts of faults, and manage to see the inherent absurdity of it all and still enjoy it. you sound too young to become a grumpy old man babying what's left of his life in first, anon. get your shit together and put in top gear and soar, like you and that beamer behind you would wanna see.
