On August 28, 2025, at around 7:25 a.m., Michigan State Police troopers spotted a stolen Chevrolet Cruze in Detroit and followed it westbound on I-96 into Livonia. The driver, a 27-year-old man from Brighton, attempted to flee as troopers pursued.

Livonia Police deployed a grappler device, a high-strength net that ensnares a vehicle’s rear tire and axle, near Levan and Farmington Road. The device successfully stopped the car, but the driver’s attempts to escape caused the rear axle to be ripped off, sparking a small fire that was quickly extinguished.

The driver and his two female passengers, aged 31 from Livonia and 32 from Wayne, were arrested without incident. The driver faces charges for possession of a stolen vehicle and a probation violation warrant, while the passengers had multiple outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions.

No injuries were reported, and westbound I-96 was temporarily closed near Farmington Road, reopening by 8:25 a.m. Dashcam footage of the grappler deployment went viral, showcasing the technology’s effectiveness in avoiding a high-speed chase.

Michigan State Police praised the grappler for safely stopping criminals without a pursuit. The incident marked Livonia Police’s second notable use of the device in 2025, following a July 30 drunk driving arrest.

It's really astonishing how retarded you have to be to get yourself into this situation.

If you're that guy, this is par for the course.

The car's a total loss, which is a shame. I've wondered why the precedent for horse theft never transferred to cars as well, because the consequences were way more severe.

all the fucking money wasted from this really boggles my mind. car is toast bound for the junkyard, owner of the car is out god knows how much money + insurance rates going up if they even have full coverage on it, whatever it costs the city to tow the wreck off the highway, whatever the fuck it costs to reset the grappler thing + any damage to the police truck from this. all to pay even more money to put some nobody behind bars.
not that I think criminals should go unpunished for stealing cars, but the economics of it all is just crazy.

Imagine if the nigger lasso had a winch, so you could pick up that slack and the future rocket engineer couldn't conduct ballistic experiments with Karens chevys rear subframe.

Some animals just seem clean, like rhinos
Other animals just seem inherently filthy, like hippos

Ostriches are just filthy and weird
