Ford is ceasing production of the Escape and the Corsair. In their place, at the Lexington Plant, they'll be making an Electric Truck. Ford is calling it another "Model T moment". Are they insane? The Escape is still in the top 4 or 5 most sold vehicles from Ford. It's like F-150, Explorer, Maverick and then Escape. The Escape has been in production for nearly 25 years, first model year was 2001. It's never been a bad selling car. I just don't understand why they're getting rid of it, seems so dumb to me. They're keeping the Bronco Sport, which is on the same platform...but currently has lower sales than the Escape. To me it seems like it'd be better to axe the Bronco Sport and keep the Escape, but I guess I just don't get it
The escape is old and busted and the Bronco is the new hotness. Everyone wants rugged boxy SUVs right now. The escape sells slightly more but interest has fallen way way waaay off. It barely sells half of what it used to. Meanwhile demand for the bronco is growing and it's on track to have its best year yet. If left alone it might have surpassed the escape this year and would definitely have done so next year.
Is there no profit margin on escapes? Don't particularly care about crossover segment but the escape was legitimately one of the few domestic cars that were ACTUALLY built/assembled in america. Quite disappointing.
>>28594303>Is there no profit margin on escapes?I don't know, but it was a good value. What other 5 seater with decent cargo room could you get for less than 25k that also gets 40mpg city and highway? It wasn't an amazing car but it's one of the few reliable fords without dozens of recalls and it just works. I don't understand why they're getting rid of it
>>28594306They have the Bronco Sport which is the same platform with better looks.
>>28594313>They have the Bronco Sport which is the same platform with better looks.Bronco sport looks worse and gets worse miles per gallon. It's worse in every way except headroom
>>28594313The bronco sport doesnt have the 2.0t that the escape does
>>28594313>>28594353Oops actually the B.S. does so nvm.
>>28594287Ford just hates selling cars for some reason. Same reason they got rid of the Taurus when it actually started to win some market space back from the japanese
>>28594287>car companies in 2020+5:>will will kill the car you like, you will buy the car you don't like, and you will be happy
>>28594287They're thinking of trying to compete with BYD, but they will end up as a wholly-owned subsidiary of BYD by 2030.
>>28594287I think they're playing the long(ish) game here, since the next US president is likely to reinstate some form of the electric vehicle purchase rebate. The major governments of the world are just hellbent on pushing electric cars, that won't change just because a face does.
>"Model T moment"Absolute desperation by Ford.
>>28594287>>28595848Model T Moment refers to the assembly process. It's supposed to be a revolutionary change in the assembly line. Like what they did with the Model T that allowed it to be mass produced on a scale unlike anything before it.
>>28595967>>28595967OP here, also quasi insider. Ford just re-hired my dad as a consultant almost 20 years after they forced him into taking a buyout (he had been with Ford for 29 years at that point). Some of his other old co-workers got hired on to. Basically, Ford is re-hiring white collar mgmt that they let go of back in 2006/7 in an effort to turn things around. I don't yet know if this is good or bad for the company. I'm happy for my dad and his boomer former co-workers, but I can't tell if this is desperation from Ford or what. Maybe they wouldn't be in this position if they hadn't forced a lot of good people out just before the recession
>>28596303Kek I am simultaneously tapping the sign while hoping it's not enough and they STILL go under. Fuck DEI.Fuck BoeingFuck FordLet them all burn.
Model Turd moment
Ford should bring the Dearborn Independent back
This is a certified Model T Moment
>>28594287Personally all I want is another 4 door rear wheel drive sedan from Ford. I don't even care if it's electric at this point. If they can build another sedan, I will support them
>>28594287The Corsair is literally the only tiny crossover I'm interested in because it drives like a tiny land barge.
>>28596353AND FUCK YOU IN THE ASS... OR COCK!
>>28597880Just get a cadillac xt4 with the smallest wheel size
>>28597880The Corsair does not drive like a "tiny land barge". By definition there is no such thing. It drives like the ford escape, which is a compact crossover, because that's what it is
I for one will getting in line for the $30k Ranchero EV. I'm getting one before they Maverick it and jack up the price. It will make a fine commuter vehicle.
>>28597880Nautilus isnt bad either. same platform but stretched out to give more rear legroom which the Chinese Market really wants.
>>28599041Is it officially going to be called the Ranchero? If they made it lower to the ground than the Maverick and more like the traditional Ranchero I might actually be into that
