That's a pretty sick skid, 4motion?
I test drove a Passat W8 way back when and it seemed really special. I wonder if any of those are still on the road. They should bring back the W8 and stuff it into small cars.
>>28596406yeah
>>28596410There's a guy in the city over who drives one since new, it sounds gnarly when he steps pn the pedal, apparently it had a super sprint exhaust installed at some point.Didn't ask if it's given any trouble to him, but last time I spoke with him, he was at 560k km on the thing.>>28596413Front diff blocked or just sent it hard as hell?
>>28596418Just the rear diff welded
>>28596418>apparently it had a super sprint exhaust installed at some point.hmm the whole fun was the quiet but smooth engine noteI don't like brappy exhaustsbut I do hope manufacturers realize people want NA v6 and v8 engines in small cars still as performance specials - and also just to lift the brandI wish manufacturers spent as much money as they do developing unlovable electric cars as on making new, clean-sheet 6 and 8 cylinder engine designs that are compact and can fit into small cars and suvs
>>28596398That period of time for VW kicked ass, I really wish other manufacturers would experiment with different engine layouts
>>28596439its really telling that not a single manufacturer has introduced a NEW 6 or 8 cylinder engine in a while I want to say the newest is probably the 6 cylinder that Fiat/Stellantis uses - and even that (I think) is just a derivative of the Ferrari V8
>>28596443Doesn't Mazda have a new 6 cylinder? Although I think it's only in some shitty SUV, and it may be a derivative of a Toyota engine. But seriously, with the threat of governments limiting what cars can be on the roads, manufacturers should be getting all their crazy ideas out on the road asap
>>28596443Dodge made the Hurricane straight 6, /o/ ragged on it.I personally didn't see an issue with it, could be a decent tuning platform
>>28596446oh yeah maybe that's slightly newer - but apparently they totally ruined the transmission and suspension so you can't even enjoy it + it's not even that fast>and it may be a derivative of a Toyota engineno, definitely not, Toyota doesn't make an inline 6>>28596450"dodge"I'm pretty sure it's a Ferrari V8 with two cylinders lopped offMaserati has been doing that with Ferrari engines for a while + it first premiered on their sports car>I personally didn't see an issue with itit's fine apparently it sounds like a Ferrari engine as it should and is very smooth but my point is it isn't NA and isn't being used on cheaper/smaller applications to make performance specials - just on ultra-luxury brands and big SUVs so farI know they are gonna make a Charger with it - but again that's full sized
B58.There’s no substitute.
>>28596498It's a great engine but I personally prefer the Jag supercharged V6 (AJ126). Yes I know it's just a V8 block with V6 cylinder heads, but it's such a smooth and linear engine that sings all the way to the redline. The B58 has a slightly broader max torque range, but the AJ126 still makes peak torque from 2000RPM with absolutely no lag.
>>28596398I used to have one of those, previous gen. That Audi V6 pulled*. Pulled every sensor out of functionality. Window regulators broke. Everything broke. I did the full suspension. lol 2-separate-part control arms. Finally gave up when I had to pull the dash due to the heat exchanger leaking.* but no, it really did pull. I have a CTR now and it feels like it doesn't pull as hard, though obviously it does. Shit, now it makes me want a V8. The Passat was a glorious piece of shit. Wouldn't last a day driving it like OP gif though.
>>28596552https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uylj_tzlwI4You know what you gotta do now
>>28596559I mean, I respect the thing, but literally everything broke. I wasn't joking about window regulators - replaced them with the pink Audi ones. The glovebox latch broke. Somehow the fucking rests next the window controls entirely wore out. Never had another car where the fucking fuel filter clogged up, fuel pressure regulator broke, etc. I think I literally fixed 100 distinct things on it, and I am counting replacing the entire suspensions as one. And yea, the fucking axle boots tore faster than other cars as well.Basically wouldn't wish it on my biggest enemy,.
>>28596485>I'm pretty sure it's a Ferrari V8 with two cylinders lopped offStraight 6. STRAIGHT. Not V6, straight 6.
>>28596398Unlike the vid, B5.5 actually has a very calm and classy aura, makes you feel like a professional chaffeur. Electronics suck, front suspension is weak, old interiors can indeed fall apart, but otherwise it's very very comfy.
>>28596398VW made a CC VR6 4Motion and none of those are basically left because they were all trashed. That was a great little car, and I'm sorry I ever sold mine.
>>28596564I had a Jetta 1.8T (laggy but fun at higher revs) - and it didn't really have any problems except me crashing it eventually :(>>28596795I test drove that - it was way too small and the headroom was terrible.
>>28597064I'm an Austrian manlet, anon. It was literally the perfect car.
>>28596564Owner of several older Audis here including a b5 s4 and a b5 a4; know a few people who also own 25+ year old vws and Audis including one guy with a b5 Passat with the 2.8 automatic 4motion. This post is the epitomy of VW/Audi ownership on par with 10mm memes - we all relate 100%To be fair though, were you getting cheap aftermarket axles or rebooting your stockers? Because we've all had nothing but bad luck with aftermarket axles, I recently put rebooted junkyard axles in my car and they've been holding up great, even with my transmission mounted rearward of the axle by 2.5 inches and all the angle that goes with that.
>>28596398holy fuck that jump lmao, i love it
>>28597392It's funny how we immediately relate on this. But no, I got the fancy axles from that one place specializing in B5 axles and suspension rebuild was a kid from ECS Tuning.I actually adored that kit - there is nothing similar for other car brands. Either it doesn't exist, or it's super low-quality kits. Passatforums was an amazing place back in the day too.The Passat was actually my first car after a lol Hyundai Accent, so it was interesting to learn to wrench on that thing. Miata and Integra were cake after that.
>>28596398sauce on OP's clip since he's too gay to include ithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LWgmOK8jss
>>28596450I think it's pretty cool. It's something different than just muh big V8.
