anybody here ever own a gen 1 3000GT?
Yeah it ran 28 years ago and it's sat on my drive ever since and takes at least -$10k from my neighbours property price.
>>28596829Based. You're doing your part to help fix the housing problem.
>>28596824>90s dsm
>>28596829kek
Yeah it was a lovely car but parts were not easy to get. I didn't like the rear wheel steering, I'd always driven rwd and I instinctively felt like I needed to countersteer to catch it which ruined the driving experience.
>>28596824>not posting the VR4 with the obnoxiously large wing
>>28597069gen 2 is ugly
I think these and Eclipses live in a permanent state of "ran when parked my loss your gain $5000 i know what I have bring your own wheels"
>>28597072a huge wing was peak 90s jdm
>>28596829>when the first post is also the best post
These were probably like $5K in good condition before the pandemic and now they're all like $20K for one that isn't FUCKED up.
>>28597140imagine that you had boughten it back then. you'd be rich now
>>28597150I seethe hard at how relatively obscure/undesirable cars I was interested in are now basically unobtainable. Nobody even gives a fuck about the 1991-1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT and yet everybody is asking like $20K+. Fucking faggots. Fuck COVID. I had my eyes on a 1991 in Nairobi Beige, only like 80 of them in the world. and of course, the stupid fucking virus made them go 4x before I got the funds together to fucking buy one. Fucking jews...
>>28597140>now they're all like $20K for one that isn't FUCKED up.huh?
Yeah.>>28596869Not a dsm. OP, I could answer questions but just know majority of slop that gets typed about these cars comes from ignorance. It's IYKYK
>>28597174>all but two of those are gen 2>the two gen 1's are completely fucked up
>>28597182they're not 20k outside of pristine examples. Expect to fix literally any one you buy. there's a reason for their reputation of being the least reliable pieces of shit to come out of japan.
>>28597205They're complete ass to work on apparently, so if it's fucked up, you may as well not even bother.
>>28597205Don't bother talking any sense into him. He's either brown or white trash and doesn't possess the very modest level of intelligence necessary to properly assess car prices. He just wants to cry and shit while whining about how everything is unobtainable because he looks at autotrader and cargurus.
>>28597205if it's the SR it's not worth $1
>>28597230They're not that bad. I hated working on my buddies Z32 way more. Some things are annoying but that's every car. I'll concede working on the interior of the cab is rough but not the engine.
>>28596824>>28597072>>28597182They're all "gen 1" you absolute fucking retard. It was a single generation vehicle. What you keep calling "gen 2" was just a facelift. Still the same car underneath.
>>28596829>>28596875kek
>>28597230Sounds like you really don't want one.
>>28596824I've owned 1st and 2nd gen 3000GTs since 2003, though I prefer 2nd gen.>>28597558Anywhere you look you'll find a distinction between 1st and 2nd gen. 2nd gen VR4s got a 6 speed getrag tranny (vs 5 speed in 91-93), better transfer case, stronger engine internals, larger brakes, different body panels, passenger airbag, OBD2, and more. Non-turbo models have fewer differences.
>>28597736Still not a generational change.
>>28597558Not true, early 1gs had cast cranks which 93 onwards had Forged cranks. 4 bolt mains vs the initial 2 bolt. There are inherit pros and cons for the 5spd vs 6spd and it's drive train components. 5 speeds have stronger bell housings, however the transfer assembly is cast aluminum. 6 speeds have steel transfer assemblies however their 2nd gear tends to be be finicky without bellhouse brace tacked in it.Ideal model in 1gs is a 1993 twin turbo with a 5 speed and then invest in a billet transfer assembly if you want to remedy the Achilles heel of the car. They also recieved different sound systems and head units along side OBD2 update.
>>28597783see:>>28597781Still the same body, still the same platform, still the same generation. All of those changes you've listed have occurred in other cars mid-model year. Just because it's updated, even if the update is desirable, does not mean it's a new generation.
>>28596824Why would anyone want that piece of shit?Talk about ugly, slow, and GAY.>>28597181>TrannyverseLol, that's a real hot rod you got there, slick. Did you put the GTO badges on so everyone knows you make 233 whp?
>>28597783>inherit pros and cons>inherit
>>28597783Bugeye, blobeye, and hawkeye wrxs are all 2nd gen imprezas despite significant differences between them. Nothing you listed is a generational change. A shitload of cars get facelifts mid gen that make one better or worse than the other.
>>28598154You pedantic motherfucker here's your (you) now shut the fuck up lol
>>28597787My machine is built (by me) to 500 to all four wheels. I upgrades the fuel system, larger turbos, Forged internals, with a thou bored over pistons, revenge billet transfer case, chrome ecu, and all on pump gas with a hot wired fuel pump.Where is your car bus rider?>>28598096Late posting be like that lil bro.>>28598154You're just dumb lmao idk what else to tell you, they're officially designated as generations so unless you wanna fight mitsubishi themselves you can go rope.I will always have this car, and I will continue to daily drive it as I have for over a decade. Midwits will stay Hating, your bitch will stay mirin'
>>28598560dyno sheet?
>>28598566Here you go. Now shut the fuck up about these cars.>inb4 hurr durr yer at 480>inb4 hurr durr no way bro deez cars can't be built! Why? Cuz they just can't!
>>28596824I have a 10th generation 3000gt
>>28598583LOOOOL DIS NIGGA AT 480 NOT EVEN 500 AHAHAHAHA
>>28598613I don't have a sheet since refining my setup to 5, cry about it. You'll just have believe my statements at face value. Funny how you'll never see a 3k hater post their ride.
>>28598607Oh yeah? Well I have a 32nd generation Mustang!
>>28598620anon I'm fucking with you obviouslyI think gtos are cool but would never own one and fully understand why they're still cheap compared to similar performance cars.
>>28598662Ya got me.But you'd never own one because you've been exposed to hoards of ignorant people telling you the most comical fuddlore about em' they're not as bad as most paint em out to be fren.
>>28598668I'd never own one because the vr4 is like 3800lbsthe reliability infamy doesn't help either, the 2 people I knew with one basically mirrored>>28596829just to a less farcical degree.
>>28597558how it looks matters when the gen 2 is fucking ugly.
>>28597787>uglyretarded opinion discarded
>>28598707Just wait till you find out that a mk4 supra weighs 3400lbs and only rwd with half of the tech in a gto. They were easy to buy back in the day, and when you have a cheap buy in you tend to attract owners that cheap out on maintence. They are reliable, it's just many have rotted away from neglectful owners. I will concede that these cars aren't for the feint of heart, it will either ruin you or turn you into a blood diamond champion.>>28598817Be sure to look at the 2Gs with Glass headlights, they look a lot nicer than the 2Gs with painted headlights>Pitt Road M is picrel, a real time attack build from the early 00's
>>28598560500 to all four wheels? So 2000 hp? Wow, that's almost as much as my 2jzgte swapped vr4. Ha aha.
Neighbor had one growing up - said it looked fast but was a pig and slow
>>28598946>Just wait till you find out that a mk4 supra weighs 3400lbs and only rwd with half of the tech in a gto.I don't want a mk4 supra either. I think they're one of the single most overrated cars of all time, especially compared to the rest of the jdm golden era offerings. Next to no racing heritage and mediocre styling, with its only real claim to fame being a shit hollywood movie and an engine that was found in other toyotas.
>>28599411to be clear I'm aware of the tom's supra (which didn't even use a 2j lmao) but it doesn't have anywhere near the pedigree of basically any of the other halo cars. Skylines, evos, stis, etc earned their reputation, but they all (minus the r34 gtr) go for less than a supra
>muh gens It's series, not generation. They engine may have different generations but the car remains the same series until a generation change, in which case the chassis model number also changes.
>>28599411>>28599413It was Toyota's halo car and has been Toyota's only halo car since the 2000GT.
The truth about these cars lies somewhere in the middle. They aren't all eternal inoperable project cars with infinite issues, but they also aren't that good either. If you want one the real winning strategy is to pay maybe 3-5k for one that runs and drives and keep it as a sort of cool secondary backup car. Then sell after a year or two and pursue other cars. They aren't really the best "main" car for someone, both in use and in passion.
>>28599439Your point?It doesn't make it less overrated
>>28599455Totally disagree but what do I know, I've only owned one for a decade. Do you have any idea how nice the hatch is
>>28598560Very nice
>>28599549What's so special about the hatch? Aesthetics or something else?
>>28602269>he doesn't know about the hatchlol. fucking lmao...
>>28598560That's a really sweet car anon>>28598583>MissourahI'm so sorry
>>28602275God you're sensitive. Just face it buddy it's not that great of a platform. I'm glad you're having fun with it, but it's only all right. Not bad, aesthetically at least I do like them so don't put words in my mouth, but boy you're overhyping it.
>>28602717Another minor thing I like about them that I noticed when driving one was the ridiculous amount of rear visibility you had, it was like an aquarium.
>>28599461My point is that as the halo car of one of Japan's top automakers, it commands the price that it's worth. Its only LHD supras that are prohibitively expensive by the way. A RHD 6 speed turbo is like 1/3rd the price of an R34 GTR.
>>28602736R34 gtrs are also disgustingly assrape expensiveEven a base model autotragic sedan r34 is like 15k
