helmets?no, they don't.Expire, that is.
Today I went on a romantic sunset date
>>28597225I mean some of the foam they use in helmets definitely degrades over time. Happens to shoes too
Took a ride up to the top of pikes peak today. Pretty nice ride, the dumbasses who drive slow as fuck and don’t get the hint to pull over and let the 1/4 mile of cars and motorcycles backed up behind them are annoying though… as is the case with any mountain riding. I’ve gotten into the habit of just passing when I see an opportunity despite the double lines.

Whats the difference between obsession and devotion. This thread is blurring the lines.
>>28597281Obsession is intense but generally fleeting. Devotion is enduring and does not expire (just like helmets)

>gixxer brah crashed into pickup, sent to hospital with major injuries
>>28597304Nah, the way the straps sit they’re well clear of the belt and sprocket. Worse case scenario, if one if the straps breaks and somehow gets into the belt it’d pull out of the bag and not cause any issue, the straps loop through a couple of holes in the back of the bag and are not affixed directly to the bag in any way - I imagine for the reason you state. Only bad thing about the bag is if I have a decent amount of weight in it such that it sags then it’ll actually drag a little bit near full lean, you can see the fraying on the corner.

>>28597383I didn’t say it was a good idea. Why is it hard to believe though? It was on sandy valley road west of vegas. Long road through the Mojave, there was a truck going ~50 that I caught up to and was tried of being in the massive dust plume it kicked up. I got over 100 passing it then just maintained 60-70mph until I reached sandy valley. My point is that knobby tires aren’t necessarily squirrelly over some arbitrary speed.

>>28597780This>Six gears>carbed>lighter>fasterbest I can say for the XT250 is that the gear ratios are way taller. So your 4th and 5ths can hit most of the speed of the 250 but you're still fucked not having a sixth gear. Also EFI is cringe unless you like waiting weeks for parts from Japan to replace it because one of the plastic pieces broke out in the mud (they're almost 90% plastic that bakes in the sun)
Seriously I don't get why people like EFI. It's a shitty solution to government overreach on engines so small that they make a fraction of the pollution that your average Ford F-250 makes. There isn't a premium EFI for bikes, they're made to be the cheapest sensor kit ever and are notoriously dogshit to replace. Plus you can't even tune the fuckers without paying for expensive remap kits, something that should be stock with the bike if bike manufacturers gave a shit about consumers which they don't. Meanwhile the carb is still among the most reliable piece of any bike. Only failing if it sits in old fuel for 3 years, which guess what EFI does too.

I got rid of that shit years ago and making a new one is a pain in the ass if Facebook doesn't like you for any reason (your face is too similar to someone else, your IP is dynamic, your phone is used, etc.)Trying to make a new account just to look up local riding groups has been a fucking nightmare
>>28598103You had 2 XT250s and both of them blew themselves up? What's the failure point?
>>28598090This is another reason I want to avoid Facebook: There are legit uses but almost all of it are misuse of the system, and none of them ever get banned for it. There was an obvious smash-and-dash deal on marketplace near me with a salvage title and I got suspended for reporting it. It may be hard to believe but I've found great success with Craigslist recently even if the selection is limited and the site is nearly dead.
>>28598109I can’t see her weighing more than like 150 lbs. I’m just worried it’s going to be awkward being more top heavy
>>28597843NTA but Yahama had this problem notoriously a little while agohttps://www.topspeed.com/motorcycles/motorcycle-news/yamaha-issues-recall-of-xt250-over-multitude-of-problems/IDK if it affects the wr250r but it was enough for them to recall the xt250. >According to Yamaha, the problems with the XT250 were discovered when some bikes experienced a rash of problems when they run in the top revs for prolonged periods of time. Among the most important issues include unforeseen heat that could melt the bike’s air induction hose. In the event this happens, the bike’s fuel injection sub-wiring harness could become exposed to exhaust gases and the harness wires’ plastic insulation could melt after that. Once melted, there’s an increased possibility of a short circuit, which could then stall the engine and cause a crash. The folly of putting plastic shit on or near exhaust gas temperatures.
I got my first service done at an official Yamaha dealership for my R9, and now neutral feels different, as if the gears were dragging against the oil. Am I imagining things or did the dealership just not change the oil?
>>28598137Did they replace or service the clutchpack at all? If so it has to break in. look at the oil and see if it's a clear to amber color, if it's black take it back.
>>28598143Not that they mentioned, the 1000km service should only be an oil change.I'll check the oil, sadly the r9 only has a dipstick and no window.
>>28598133Two completely different engines. The component mentioned is a smog/emissions cheat that cleans up unburnt fuel in the exhaust by pumping fresh air into the exhaust side of the engine to hopefully burn it off while it's still hot. If they routed the rubber hose poorly, it would make sense that it melts and then starts spitting out exhaust instead of getting force fed air. This whole system can be deleted from the bike.
>>28598161Thats the smog pump, right?
>>28597739love the bike sir, yes very nice kindly test drive and purchase sir
>>28597739If you care about mpg above everything.... Maybe.
>>28598123Yes, both needed a top end. One due to rod knock the other due to eating a bearing.
>>28598214Holy shit, how do I stop it from happening to me? I'm one of the other XTfags in this thread and my Bike is probably much newer, but what exactly needs to happen to improve the life of this engine?Or is it just a ticking time bomb that's based on how hard I ride it and I should ride it until it dies?
>>28598234Just ride it until it dies and get something else. Preferably a crf300l or klx300. They're kind of time bombs due to how they're built. Even with rod knock though, despite how fast it progressed, that could could have spit out another 25k miles with rod knock for all I know. I know of a chevy vortec engine )way different I know) going 80k miles more after developing rod knock. Ran like shit but ran. On an old work Chevy express that they didn't want to fix and just wanted to replace entirely.I rode that second xt250 light 90% of the time, was very critical about the break in period and maintenance, and it was a newer 2022 model. After a couple trips to the next town over (about 70 miles) holding it at 60-65mph, it decided it didn't like holding those speeds, despite the bike seeming to handle the revs very well. It's a tractor, for around town and VERY light offroading. I'll never buy another xt250 again. Meanwhile there's people doing numerous saddle sore 1,000 mile runs in under 24 hours on crf300l rallys (keeping near max rpm the whole way), and klx300s are built by design to sit at high rpms for long periods, to the point you could pin the throttle offroad and keep it there.Xt250s should be kept under 60mph unless you're avoiding an accident and should be babied, nothing else makes sense to me for them, they're touted for their reliability by yamaha fans but they're truly pieces of shit.

>>28598251The sub 500cc KTMs are made by Bajaj you moron, also the CFMoto ones for KTM are the 790 and 890, hell the 800 MT-X is pretty much a 1:1 copy of the 890, except they use KYB suspension instead of WP, besides not looking like a bug.GRR is probably your best bet, if you want it for offroad, pick the Himmy but PLEASE change those shitty tires unless you want to break a leg when that fat hog of a bike falls over you, and before buying any bike, specially a RE, get enduro boots, its cheaper than paying hospital bills.
>>28597776>Thank you for posting this catYou're welcome>Also i prefer this one to the ai slop mcdon editionTrue, but just look how happy this catto is!
>>28598408Won't happen to me.As soon as I upgrade my 300cc to a 600cc, I'll be satisfied forever.
>>28598433What I really want is the GB350 but they don't offer it here in the States
>>28597220whats a good bigger bike for a taller rider?im 6'3"
I was having problems with my bike stalling when coming to an abrupt stop even with the clutch pulled in. Naturally I pulled the carb to clean out the pilot jet. All the jets were pretty clean, but I noticed some weird jetting. The pilot/slow jet was the stock 65S (most everybody switches it out to a 68S or larger depending on elevation after uncorking the bike), but the main jet was a 185. That's way bigger than people usually go with the main. So I was both running lean at idle and rich under throttle. I should have checked that out sooner. Now I'm waiting for some jets and other assorted parts to see if I can get it set up right. Including another CDI that raises the rev limiter ~1100 rpm and has a more aggressive timing curve.>>28598090Just only buy from white people. The last bike I bought was from a really cool older White man. He even offered to pay the late registration fees AFTER I had bought the bike and ridden it home. Though, I was just thinking I wish I had the money to buy new like never-buying-used guy. I've been wrenching on my last purchase the whole dang time.
>>28598249Looks pretty beautiful to me
Motorcycles are a luxury item in America. As this country slowly devolves into a subscription based "you'll own nothing and be happy" technocratic hell hole, I wonder if motorcycles will become more popular. Cars are unbelievably expensive now and leases are more popular than ever.Motorcycles are more expensive now but they're a lot more affordable than cars.
>>28598440No, ai is the beast from revelation and daniel bible bro
>>28598119Your AMA district page will have a whole list of motorcycle clubs, but they're for offroad stuff.
>>28598487I see more people every year commuting to work on motorcycles, so yeah.
>>28598487It's a blessing and a curse, it not for my baiku I would've moved out of California due to the immense traffic. Lane filtering and parking anywhere makes it bearable.
>>28598487I don't particularly want or need a literbike, but I just want to have one before they're regulated out of existence.
>>28598487>I wonder if motorcycles will become more popular.no because the average person likes owning nothing. people actually prefer renting to owning a house nowadays because you don't have to maintain anything and everyone is a lazy worthless baby
>>28598465Then the closest thing would be a RE Hunter for you, those are pretty decent for beginners, the only problem is that they are somewhat heavy.Otherwise, look into the Vitpilen instead of the Svartpilen, the Vit one is more street oriented, the Svart is more of a scrambler that can take up non paved roads, yet both are great for a starting bike. Also a dual sport can do fine on the highway, it just depends of the model, a lot of people say this since they had a CRF 300 Rally and that one is indeed undercut for doing a lot of miles, but something like a KTM 390 Enduro R would probably do well, and then there's ADV bikes which do fine for both, they can suck if your offroad is on the high difficulty, like hill climbs with rocks and no paths whatsoever.
>>28598541Triumph 400s are decent option too. I don't like Hunter, IDK if you guys get Classic 350, that is the one that I'd get.
>>28598487Motorcycle companies refuse to offer nonluxury/toy bikes at reasonable prices. The low cc market has been left to die. Honda doesn't even advertise the metropolitan. The actual licensing process for bigger bikes is archaic though with many cities not even offering consistent msf courses. And nobody is going to consider it when they have to travel out of their way(on a bus or an uber) to an msf course that costs $500 when there's not even a solid entry level
>>28598507>it not for my baiku I would've moved out of CaliforniaI think your baiku wants you to LEAVE California anon.>>28598488I dunno about that, but I hope AI can make more Bakuon episodes for once!
>>28598538I think that's me. Owning a house is such a drag and nobody has been able to explain what I get out of it
>>28598468VFR800 98-01 or the 6th gen vtec bikes.

>>28598368>>28598347Himmy 411s are great, idk why people act like this about them. Haven't tried the 450
>>28598541I have a CRF300L but it wobbles like crazy over 75mph. I've tried adjusting the rear preload and moving the forks up and down in the clamp but I can't fix it. Removing the front fender is the only thing that seems to have made a slight difference. Either way I'm a manlet and it's annoying to daily a super tall bike anyway. Yes I'm a confident enough rider to go down with one foot and slide partially off the bike at lights but it's still annoying
>>28598547>I don't like Hunter, IDK if you guys get Classic 350, that is the one that I'd get.Deep down they are pretty much the same, its just the looks of the bike that change, the Hunter one indeed has a much more comfy seat, something your backpack will thank you for it if ya got one.Triumph 400s are a bit like KTM/HQV, so its similar to either picking a Vitpilen, a Svartpilen or a 390 Adventure X these days. Probably the bigger advantage of Triumphs would be the rider position being a bit better vs the KTM ones, though if you want a more sporty position, Dukes are great for that without over going full sportbike position.Best thing is that you go see them in person and take a seat on them, then decide.
>>28598487Every third world state that I know of is nothing but motorcycles for this exact reason: Cars become too expensive, and either become a company thing or a luxury item, so the motorcycle becomes the national mode of transportation.America is just becoming the states they used to think of themselves better than.
>>28598494Oh nice, I've never heard of this before. My AMA District https://racedriven.com/ama-districts/ doesn't seem to have a page (Florida)
I'm also looking for a first bike. I'm getting my A2 licence soon. Are z500s worth considering? I really like the black and gold ones that are coming out next year.
tell me about the honda VFRs, lads
>>28598648Get a 98-01 and youll have one of the top 5 greatest motorcycles ever built. Unironically. Ten toes down on that.
>>28598249Fucking sweet
>>28598648>v4>single side swingarm>sport tourer>very long production run, you can even get it with ABS>Some of the gen came with gear driven cams, regularly known for over 100k or 200k miles.>Its a Honda and it captures the soul of Honda, low maintenance, runs forever, will not kill you, will love you forever.
>>28598661There are so many great bikes. It's crazy how Honda has all five spots of the top five greatest motorcycles of all time.
Gixxerbrah got injured?
>>28597642Google for an off-road recovery service in your area. In any case, I'm sure you can find a good ole boy with a rig off some sort that can pull your bike out.
>>28598103I used to ride my 200cc Chinese bike on the right lane on the highways at 60 all the time. Did that hundreds of miles at a time. I don't know why an XT250 couldn't do it.
>>28598481>only buy from white people.Unfortunately I live in New York City and motorcycles are mostly driven by beaner and jeet deliveroo drivers. When I look up any motorcycle I'm going to be flooded with poorly spelled 3 word descriptions in all lowercase and a ton of dog shit 125cc scooters
>>28597739I think it looks cool and the himmy is a success, this is just a roadster himmy so why not?>>28598251>>28598347>chainsaw motorcycle mentionedDamn the 2024 model looks cool compared to the previous style, and there is one for sale for a nice price near meit doesn't have KTM's explosive special camshafts or anything similar in it, right?
>>28598487I don't see bikes becoming the standard transportation like they are in developing countries. I think Americans will just go further into debt to finance their cuckovers and truggs. Why not? High speed limits make low CC bikes less viable. Much of the country doesn't have the weather to ride all year. The average vehicle is much bigger in the US, which along with higher speed limits, makes 2-wheeled transportation extremely scary to most.
>>28598741I think the 2024 model looks bad compared to previous models. By bad I mean good but more normal which is worse. The old one had so much soul and was buglike in a unique way. More like a cricket than a wasp or mantis.
>>28598742You just have to take US highways to make low cc bikes viable. Most of them are like 40 - 55 and a lot of them are completely empty once you're out in the sticks as cagers take the interstates.
>>28598723Because the xt250 is a piece of shit.
>>28598749it was unique and i think it needs to be praised for trying to be something special but it was too futuristic for my taste:this is futuristic enough without looking like a weird minimalist shape or a super edgy insect like others. gonna look into it more and will go see it in the weekend since it's still on the taller end and i'm a manlet, need to sit on it first
>>28598741>it doesn't have KTM's explosive special camshafts or anything similar in it, right? There was never camshaft issues with the 390/401 line. They are Indian made. The other issues that I know of was oil leakage, water pump failure. Nothing catastrophic, in jeetland these bikes come with 10y warranty for what its worth.
>>28598742If you can do over a 100mph on a duke 390, is that really that slow. Duke 250 can do 90, Duke 200 can do 85, I don't think either of that is sold in the US.
>>28598805>in jeetland these bikes come with 10y warrantyWonder if anyone lives long enough to make it worthwhile
>>28598777I'm a 5'8.5 king of manlets and I find the svarty way too tall. You don't realize it looking at the online ergonomics simulators because the suspension is stiff (doesn't sag) and the seat is wide compared to tall dual sports so it's actually taller than you'd think
>>28598814damn i'm 5'5 and my beta is supposedly taller than that and has stiff super moto suspensions, i'm used to touch with only one tip at stops or having to shift my butt to go full one feet.Too tall as in that but for you that are even taller or you can't do both flat? because if it's only one foot i'd still be ok since it's not that heavy
>>28598741Pretty sure the only KTM bikes with soft cam shafts were the 790.
>>28598742US came very close to China flooding our markets with cheap EV's before Biden put a 100% tariff on them. But yeah banks will do anything to keep their debt slave cattle.
>>28598767Worse than a $1000 chinese bike, which i had (and still do its a decent bike)
>>28598826Cute post!

My 650 got a CEL while riding in really heavy rain and I can't figure out what it could be. I rode it today down a highway for a while trying to clear it with a ride cycle but it never went off even though it rides fine.Has anyone else gotten CELs from rain riding?
>>28598600any bike you can get on your license is worth considering
>>28598882
>>28598903whats the problem brokie, cant hang dank nooners?
>>28598826>5'5Insanely breedable. Post unsee.
>>28598690NTA but I wanna chime in that the gear driven cams have been known to even exceed 300k miles. MILES.There was a forum post of an RC51 rider that bought fresh off the lot in 2000' and racked up 332k miles before said bike got hit by a red light runner. It was dyno'd every 100k and never skipped a beat (with proper maintenance as with any bike) The 5th gen vfr rocks those same gear driven cams, just with two extra clyinders a singled sided swingarm with 120-130hp to the rear wheel (varies if you got a CAT or a free flowing non-crossing exhaust and having the most comfortable yet fun riding position known to man.>>28598692It hurts winning this much.If I was forced to have only a single motorcycle. It would easily be the 5th gen viffer.
>>28598916the fuck does buying cuckshit all seasons have to do with wheelies lmao, dumbass motherfucker
Ok I got her on the bike and it was actually really easy and fun. We’ll go for a picnic or something gay next time

>>28598888>whats happenWell amidst installing the tail tidying, seems the two main bolts with cutouts for the locking mechanism somehow got bent to fuckCouldnt reseat them, the wire would not function the mechanismI basically pry at it for 2 hours to get enough leverage; luckily the seat rebent because its mostly abs plastic and is malleableSo eventually i can either reorder a new housing or modify it to not be gay, for now its very not gay and much easier to removeIdk something mustve happened during the power commander incident i guessBut we achiwved what we came out to do so thats all that matterdaddies
