Why dont people paint their carbon fiber hood?
>>28598032how will people know its carbon fibre?
>>28598044By smell
>>28598044Why would you anyone want to advertise that? Oh loog mah hood has different material
>>28598032The point is to reduce weight, adding paint adds weight.
>>28598044Do they have to?
>>28598032you paint things that have to be painted and leave things that don't have to be painted unpainted. you can't have unpainted steel, it's part of rust protection. but chrome or carbon fiber? leave it as, you'd be daft to cover them up.
>>28598032Looks cool. I like when people paint it but have it translucent so you can see the weave.
>>28598058Just put a wood plank then. Idiot
>>28598069>>28598072It looks like shit. Youre have pleb taste and probably a low class citizen
>>28598072AgreeCarbon fibre is just a neat material, why not show it offThere are so many cool applications
>>28598076>pickek
>>28598032My carbon fiber hood is painted. I didn't paint it but the previous owner did, and I'm not going to attempt to strip that paint.
>>28598032Because they spent all the money on the carbon fiber hood. High quality paint job would cost as much as the hood.
>>28598076>Ah yes, undersea fauna appreciating the fine craftsmanship of this sub-ACK>*gets turned into mist after the carbon fiber fails*
>>28598375If only had he spray painted it. He would still be with us today.
>>28598453They eventually painted it because people were freaked out by light shining through the hull
I painted the outside or the sun side of my carbon fiber and left the inside or dark side exposed. No matter what they say your clear they put on the carbon fiber WILL end up yellowing. Cheap CF starts after a year, good cf after about 5. A lot of manufacturers like konegisex and Ferrari have a two part CF topper that your run of the mill CF supplier does not apply. My bonnet and fenders are painted but you pop the bonnet and it's CF.
>>28598032why would you paint it? people paint steel because it rusts. carbon fiber doesn't rust.
>>28598493carbon fiber does oxidize thoughbeitever
>>28598032I build aircraft for a living and exposed carbon fiber gives me the creeps. They shit gets scrapped by UV exposure so fast it's not even funny.Paint your Carbon.Extends the lifespan 100x.
>>28598551Yep, resins just do not handle UV exposure well. People forgot why CF is unpainted, which is shaving every gram for a vehicle that only needs to live long enough for the race.People who do it for style are fucking stupid. If you rely on longevity, paint it.
>>28598551Didn't GM use some kind of special UV resistant clearcoat back in C6 ZR1 days? I wonder how those are holding up.
>>28598057Cuz that's half the point. The other half being weight reduction. Either way no painting. Clearcoat yes.
>>28598761Not well. Even the UV clear coats break down within 5 years or less. we've had aerospace carbon parts that were scrapped out after 30 minutes of sunlight exposure. You'd be surprised how quickly resins degrade. I work in a composite manufacturing clean room and there is no UV exposure whatsoever. There's no windows and specialized lighting
>>28598551>>28598758Man I like the look of exposed cf but this is definitely a very good point.I must weigh my options now. On the one hand, car is parked in garage on the other, longer life span in total.>sigh
>>28598997White trash taste
Who even cares
>>28599066You apparently since you replied
>>28599061Sesh
>>28598032Some of us do.
>>28599276Gay
>>28598473They forgot the two rules of submersibles>if you can see daylight through it don't use it>keep the water on the outside
>>28598473>They eventually painted it because people were freaked out by light shining through the hull>painted it because people were freaked out by light shining through the hull>light shining through the hull
>>28598032Because they want to show off they have a carbon fiber hood
>>28598032Bad taste. It's not 1998 anymore, carbon fiber is unimpressive and ugly now.
