They're not going to be able to fill the demand. All that needs to happen is for Toyota to release their Hilux Champ which is basically this with a gas engine and it's over. It doesn't have adequate range or 4wd.

>>28598127The future could have been so based
>>28598127Why didn't they go further with the cost cutting? Why include unnecessary luxury options on the baseWhy not have a less powerful motor? Why offer all this customization + an SUV model that only drives up cost and manufacturing time? Why lift it?Why give it such big wheels and tires? Why bother with a full size spare? Why not look at old cars that went for this like the Citroën 2cv and fiat 500? Give it a rag top. Skimp out on passenger mirror.Literally who would buy this? Its like they thought manual windows was all they needed as a selling point in and of itself. What a missed fucking opportunity to actually do some good in the world. Its not like anyone's gonna tow with this. Might as well make it fwd too. Anything to cut cost. The only reason its a truck is to get around passenger car regulations. Then when nobody buys this expensive junk they'll cry and say nobody wants cheap cars
>>28600244>Why give it such big wheels and tires?
>>28600244>Why give it such big wheels and tires?Default wheels are 17" steelies with an option for 20" alloysIt's a small truck so they look big in comparison.
>>28600361The front bumper nearly drags on the ground if you look at it from an angle that shows it. Seriously it's like 1-2" from scraping. Can you even lift an EV? This is gonna need correction and I don't think the 20" wheels will be enough.
>>28598127True, BEV do burn hotter than any ICE car ever has.
>>28600403>Can you even lift an EV?It has a lift and lowering kit as options as well.
>>28600336>>28600361I feel like if you were making an actual economical car and not a fashion accessory you'd definitely go under 17s. I think the investors probably spoke up and ruined the goal of the project. This shit is going to be like the elio. Or at best it'll be like Aerial.
>>28600458>I feel like if you were making an actual economical car and not a fashion accessory you'd definitely go under 17s.16s would be way too small. It's still supposed to be a truck. Economy cars these days come with 18s and low profile tires anyway.
>>28598483>nissan>goodHahaha scum
>>28600463Is it supposed to be a truck though? Its already substandard towing wise. Any truck guy is going to spit on itI thought it was supposed to be a truck in the sense that a Subaru brat or other cruiser are trucks. Also the retardation of modern economy cars having 18s doesn't matter as the point of this car initially was to sidestep a lot of the stupid shit the industry is doing.I imagine the reason its a truck is for some technicality reason to avoid some rule
>>28600601>Is it supposed to be a truck though?Going to go with yes
>>28600615Anon that's marketing. You know what I'm saying
>>28600616>yeah it looks like a truck and they call it a truck and market it based on all the truck things it can do but its not actually a truck because uhhhhhhh
>>28600616It's a golf cart shaped like a truck. The open bed can be used for things. It can't tow worth a shit, I'm sorry but any 4 cylinder shitbox can tow more than that. A 4cyl 2.5 is typically rated at 2500lbs towing capacity. This cart has 1000lbs capacity. The range is also limited, so the motor is not powerful and it lacks battery capacity. They were trying to hit a price point though and they did that by making a limited use vehicle. Sounds like people want it to be an actual truck, but they don't want to pay the price for that. It would likely be over 30k with a powerful engine, AWD, and extended range.
>>28599346>>28600639>1433lb payload>1000lb towingI do not think i have ever see a truck that can carry more weight in the box, than it can pull with the hitch :\odd
>>28598127>electric vehicle
>>28600620>>yeah it looks like a truck and they call it a truck and market it based on all the truck things it can do but its not actually a truck because uhhhhhhh>but it can't do what even a base model ford maverick can do but it's a truck because uhhhhthe chrysler pt cruiser is classified as a light truck and it was designed to fit that category to sneak past CAFE btw
I'm just saying if they made it so barebones that the guts could be removed, we may be looking at a kino swap platform. I too appreciate barebone machines
>>28600660It is strange. My kei truck is rated for 770lbs in the bed and a 300lb tongue weight, so 2000lbs towing. Though I'd want trailer brakes because even that would outweigh the truck
>>28600686>the chrysler pt cruiser is classified as a light truckRight, this thing slots into the same niche as a small panel van or kei truck or somethingsure if you're working in an oilfield or towing horses or some shit you'll need a different vehicle
>"starting" at 28k>barebones cuckpod trucclet that doesn't even have good range to show for itThis thing has been skullfucked off the market by the Ford Maverick for years already and it's not even for sale yet. The only market for this are people with a [rational] hatred of Ford amped up to irrational levels who also demand an EV cuckpod... and while regional dialects may vary where I'm from that market is called "Tesla owners" who aren't shopping for a vehicle anyway.
Average Slate buyer
>>28598217I like the idea of being able to purchase an ICE-powered (port-injected), manual transmission, body on frame, 4x4 version of it. Scale it up so it's just about the same dimensions as a '90s Ford Ranger or Chevrolet S10 and we have a deal. That idea is called the Toyota Hilux Champ.>>28598609>All that needs to happen is for Toyota to release their Hilux ChampYeah, yet instead of figuring out a way to build it here or bypass muh chicken tax, they're instead going to build a Maverick/Santa Fe "crossover truck" competitor in the form of a Corolla-based pickup that I'm sure is going to be just as useless in actual trugg duties as those two other cars are.I'm sure it's going to absolutely sell like hotcakes to the LARPer types that like those cuckover pickups so I can't really be mad.
>>28600686Didn't drumpf do away with CAFE?
>>28600691Can you swap EVs? Like put a top notch Tesla engine in this tiny piece of shit and see how many times you can roll it on a fast turn?
>>28600809The Maverick is TOO FUCKING BIG what don't you bloatlovers understand? People want a small truck and that means an 80s-90s size truck. There was no real reason to scale up every single truck, now the small truck wanters have nothing and that's most men driving a piece of shit sedan or cuckover these days.>>28600840All they have to do is make it boxy, if they make it round, no one will buy it but fags and bitches. Simple as. The people want a small boxy truck/SUV.
>>28601034>The Maverick is TOO FUCKING BIGRetard take. The Maverick has fucking 4 doors and 5 seats. The bed is the same size between the two. You get a whole covered cargo area with the back seat and still have the bed space. Guess what you lose when you slap a second row of seats in the Slate? Also the Maverick is ICE regardless of having a battery pack or not. No limited range. The Maverick can tow and haul more. Maverick comes with a slew of options standard that the Slate will not. By the time you option a Slate to equal a base Maverick you’re spending more money.Slate is useless vaporware, and only the profoundly retarded will buy that piece of shit. Sorry bout it.
>>28601076Any vehicle over 70" wide isn't practical for city driving and easily parking. It's over a foot longer than the slate too, and has bloated aesthetics. It looks like shit and is TOO FUCKING BIG you fat fuck.
>>28601153Welp guess the slate is too fucking big for city driving then because it’s over 70” wide you fucking retarded faggot
>>28598217>I like the idea of itI can’t help you if you have a shit fetish
>>28601076>The Maverick has fucking 4 doors and 5 seatsExactly, its too fuckin big.>The bed is the same size between the twoA truck that is too big with a box that is too small, very impressive.
>>28601076>The bed is the same size between the twoSlate bed is 5', mav is 4.5'
I'll never understand the "viral" marketing campaign they are pushing on this mongolian basket weaving forum. No one here will buy their bev death traps. We're too busy buying clapped out shitboxes filled with speed holes to race slowly while killing every mosquito for twenty miles.
>>28601350That’s fine. Sacrifice 5.6 inches of bed space in favor of having the ability to haul and tow more plus every other benefit that the Maverick brings. A small utility trailer alone would almost overload that EV trash.
>>28601350Most of the people who want this would be satisfied with a Subaru Crosstrek that can tow 2500-3500lbs. It's a neat convertible design but it lacks power. At least they finally made the whole goddamn exterior out of plastic instead of those fuck ugly plastic claddings only on the bottom trim.
>>28598127Imagine the rattling and road noise…
>>28601385There's no such thing you schizophrenic. It's just people taking about a product
>>28601391>>28601395>towI am curious what is holding the slates towing capacity back, its current rating makes no sense (relative to its payload)If the mav can just slap on a tow package that doubles its towing, surley the slate should be able to do the same. especially considering customize-ability is one of its main marketing gimmicks.
>>28601567If it was just one thread I could see it, however it has been continuous for months now.
>>28601848It probably has a lot to do with the fact that it’s a very cheaply made piece of vaporware. Cut costs to maximize profit. They made the choice to design the thing around a 1k lbs towing capacity so their engineers met that target as cheap as possible. There will absolutely be people overloading it and then there will be retards coming on this site screeching about SEE IT DOES TOW MORE, just like notamiata did before he bought his Maverick.
>>28601034Have you ever stood next to one in reality? They're tiny, bed barely comes up to my hips and I can see over the roof, which you can't say about literally any other new truck these days.
>>28599440>i want to get the creamsicle designed hatch backAs soon as you see the $40,000+ price tag for it you'll never buy it.
>>28598127That thing isn't cheap, it costs the same as a base trim Maverick despite being worse in every way.
>>28601153>Any vehicle over 70" wide isn't practical for city driving and easily parking. What fucking city are you in that makes this statement remotely understandable or reasonable? Oompaloompa town where everyone rides bicycles?
>>28602163Well not everyone goes on this website every day. There's a steady stream of casual posters who are coming here for the first time in months and they all want to drop by the current Slate thread and drop their opinion in it. It's a controversial and polarizing product so basically everyone has something to say about it
>>28602230It's definitely true in Europe where the streets are actually narrow and the parking spaces are the size of fiats. I live outside Manhattan and I drive my maverick in and I'd say I wish it were shorter to fit in a smaller parking space maybe once every 15 trips. I think if I had to drive to Manhattan every day I'd want a shorter car but I actually ride my motorcycles most days so it's not annoying enough to feel inconvenient
>>28601848Its primary goal is cost cutting to make it an affordable car. So they didn't stuff it with as much battery cells as would fit, probably not high output batteries, and not a high output motor. This is an electric kei truck and that will make more sense if you see how small they are in person. Don't expect bloatlord American truck capability out of it, expect kei truck capability. Probably less since it's an EV version.>>28602235It's not as controversial when you realize it's a kei truck. Just way overpriced for a scaler up golf cart, that's the controversy I guess. Hipsters will love it because they're already paying used Corolla price to drive silly little kei trucks around. But if the price on these doesn't come down after release, it's not going to do well.
>>28602228>worse in every way.2ft longer despite having a half foot shorter bed.Slightly wider despite having a slightly narrower boxUgly as sin.Bloatmaxxed, and as a ford much of that bloat will quit working in a few years.>>28602260>So they didn't stuff it with as much battery cells as would fit, probably not high output batteries, and not a high output motor. That doesnt answer why it can carry so much relative to what it can tow.It is generally much easier to pull somthing (on wheels) behind you, than it is to carry it on your own back.
>>28602266>2ft longer despite having a half foot shorter bedIT HAS A SECOND ROW OF DOORS AND SEATS
>>28602235No one cares about this scam. The only place I've ever seen any attention to it is this site. No one else gives a fuck. Further your wording reeks that of marketing wank. Fuck off, no one wants your deathtrap.
>>28602306but i dont need those :\(which makes them bloat, for me)
>>28602344It’s worth it to have a whole enclosed and lockable storage area, I promise. You’re already looking at a vehicle where space is limited, so dealing with 24 inches of overall length to have so much more capacity is worth the trade off. Plus if you ever need, you can have four passengers.
>>28602362I mostly haul wood (both firewood and building materials)Firewood i wouldnt want to put inside because of the mess it makes.Building materials are often too big for either box, but id prefer the box that its less too big for. Also i am intriqued by the thought of putting a slide in truck camper on one. They both have around the same payload, which would be sufficient for what campers under 6' long generally weigh. But i could get away with one half a foot longer with the slate, which makes a big difference in campers so small.
>>28602381>Also i am intriqued by the thought of putting a slide in truck camper on oneWhy on god’s green earth are you even considering putting a heavy camper on top of a limited range electric vehicle. Are you planning on doing a lot of camping 45 minutes from where you live? That alone would totally eliminate an EV altogether. Hybrid at most.
>>28602389> Are you planning on doing a lot of camping 45 minutes from where you live?Correct, my house is at the end of a road that transitions into a logging road.all of my camping is done within a 1 hour drive of where my house is.
>>28601848It's because it doesn't have a real tow hitch lol. The tow hitch is an aftermarket accessory and it bolts to the bumper. The Maverick may be unibody but the tow hitch is at least integral to the subframe.
