What allows the Mustang GT to stay so much cheaper than the competition? The M2 is $75,000, $20,000 more than the Mustang with a not-entirely-shit interior ("GT Premium"). The Supra is supposedly $60,000 base, but it's always $75,000.There is really nothing else left in that price breack - next stop is 718 or Corvette closer to $100,000 if you don't want CTR-tier 0-60 from the Porsche, OR you go down to said CTR/ITS/WRX or down MORE to GR86 / Miata. So the Mustang sits proudly (merica, eagle, caw, etc) as the only RWD 4s car in the 50k range. What makes it $20,000 cheaper than the competition? Genuine question - I really don't understand. To me it would be some sort of combination of shit interior, too common, bad reliability / build quality stereotypes. Do any of them hold?
Ford is all about volume sales. They sell more mustangs in a month than porsche does caymans in a year, of course the cost is lower. M2 is imported right? so of course that's going to add to costs (transport, tariffs, exchange, etc).I mean if you've driven a GT premium and are happy enough with it, why worry about why it's so much less expensive? They're pretty well supported and understood vehicles so it's pretty low risk.I'd buy one if it was what I was looking for in a vehicle (dont love the new lights or interior tablet-slop tho)
I think it's partially the econobox interior, but also Ford know how to build Mustangs and know how to build lots of them. It's probably the only sports car made at that sort of scale unless you count stuff like the BMW 4 Series, and everyone knows the only ones that really count in that model are the M440 and M4. It's also considerably more expensive in other markets which might help keep the US price a bit lower.
>>28599977Most of the fundamental cost of manufacturing is the tooling. Mustangs have been using a common platform for the past decade or so so as long as they don't tweak things too much economies of scale can apply. But of course, most of the real cost of things in practice comes down to social dysfunctions. Most companies today are heavily buraucratized which means more rent-seekers the organization wanting a slice of the company pie, more managerialists wanting to feel their hands on the tiller, and generally more impediments to things actually getting done. There's 'nothing' actually stopping a manufacturer from using different shapes colours or materials for things like interior trim, the material costs are generally also the smallest costs, so they choose to make them look whichever way they are, it's a reflection of their spirit.
>>28600009>I mean if you've driven a GT premium and are happy enough with it, why worry about why it's so much less expensive? He's concerned with the perception that he does not have the same amount of income, wealth, or cash on hand to buy a more expensive product. A woman he admires or a fella he really wants to be friends with must both realize he's a big boy with big boy money buying big boy cars!See the same reasons dorks buy $200 jeans, $100 t-shirts, or $400 shoes.
>>28600023Except I am really trying to understand if there is a performance / reliability / quality difference. Don't shit up the thread.>>28600009>>28600014>>28600018Are all clearly answering the question - aka "yes, it's mostly a volume of production vs 'exclusivity'"
>>28600035So you want people to review the performance numbers for you?
>>28600038There are more than performance numbers at play here, and you know it as a Mustang defender - if it was just that, the answer would be a Tesla.Yes, I want people to discuss the cons and pros of a car on /o/, audacious, I know.
>>28600035They have the same performance. Mustang will be loud and feel more aggressive and wild. M2 will be noticeably quieter, more composed and "sporty". Mustang will be more reliable. M2 will generally be higher quality, particularly in terms of interior. It's just more luxurious and put together. Classier. It largely comes down to price, how you want your driving experience to be and the statement you want to give to others.
nigger have you seen the panel gaps and shit of the mustank?it’s a cheaply slapped together shitbox
>>28599977Just go to a BMW dealership and look over an M2 then go to a Ford dealer and look at a Mustang. The interior and general build quality are worse, and it has higher sales volume, there you go. Cheaper.
>>28600090>>28600118modern bmws have soulless fly-by-wire driving manners with no feedback when it comes to special performance editions the gt350/gt500/mach 1 put more on the driving table than an M badgei think the corvette stingray wins on bang for buck over all, though the previously mentioned stangs aren't bad either, camaro zl1 or 1le package toodarkhorse is overpriced, if you are buying something new i think the base model actually has the best value proposition, but since the camaro is gone you can't beat the gt as the most 'accessible' new v8 on the market eitherintegra type s is good value for the money, basically just an aesthetic choice/matter of priorities at that pointbase 2 series sits in an interesting spot of offering good potential value for someone broaching the 40k price point, which calls the value propositions of everything else creeping over that price point into question (looking at all the 'hot hatches' out there these days) but i also think that can be something of a trap regardless, because cheap german cars are also expensive; if you are going to pay for german maintenance, it may as well be something that gives you a lot more performance or and luxury to go along with it
another day, another sperg with bmw living absolutely rent free

>>28599977Bad build quality. Go check the Mustang7G forums, tons of random quality issues.Hell there's a stop-sale on new Mustangs right now because of various recalls. I brought my 2025 in for a defective driveshaft clunking, and it had a NHTSA recall with no fix, then during the 2 days it was in the shop Ford announced another new recall with no fix for water leaking into the car's computers.
