*mogs you*
>>28601101*stops you in your gay little path*
>>28601101>drops a valve
>>28601101>16 valves>push rods>na>those headersthat engine sucks bro
>>28601101>*gets mogged by its superior OHC self*OH NO NO PUSHROD BROS HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN????
>>28601116Let me know when that monstrosity is FAA certified. Let me know when a OHC engine runs 3's
>>28601116>>28601113>>28601107retards
>>28601120>top fuel bans everything other than ohv>heh, ohc will never run top fuel times
>>28601128serious question, why?
>>28601120>muh FAA certifiedFucking subipoo motors are FAA certified lmao>muh drag racingOHC is banned lmao
>>28601128>>28601131You can run whatever engine you want in an unlimited class of drag racing. Why is it dominated by the pushrod engine?
>>28601135and F1 cars hold the lap record around many circuits - does this mean a V6 hybrid is the ultimate circuit racing engine?Of course not, that's just the rules of the racing category with the most money.
>>28601135i was curious so i did some research. apparently it boils down to 'simpler is better', despite ohc offering potentially better results.longer answer: there were some catastrophic failures in ohc engines so nhra mandated the ohv hemi because it blew up the least. my guess is, when you've got one chain close to the crank turning one cam, you can get a lot more force on it vs 2-4 chains/belts running 2-4 cams, and with 2-4 cams thats 2-4 more times likely to skip timing, interfere, and rapidly disassemble at a bad time
>>28601139Engine choice is irrelevant in circuit racing. Handling performance on a track is 100% the chassis. Meanwhile you can stuff a pushrod engine in pretty much anything and it will perform very well. >>28601145Yeah DOHC engines are fragile pieces of shit. One thing they will never have is displacement and there truly is no replacement for displacement.
>>28601151im not disagreeing with you, but displacement is in the block. has nothing to do with the head. and id imagine with no pushrods or cam in the way you can bore the block further
>>28601130Grug thinks more than 1 camshaft is exotic
>>28601155its not just the bore, its the height
>>28601155By the time you match the heads to the displacement you're left with a massive engine. This is why a 5L coyote is physically bigger than a 7L LS. A 7L DOHC ending would be the same size as a 10+L pushrod big block.
>>28601135>why does the class with most expensive engines, use ohv engines that are already r&d'd because of top fuel?
>>28601151Surely 21L of displacement will make me a winner
>>28601169Stop fixating on top fuel. Go look at what people are running for drag week. There are no regulations. You just need to be as fast and reliable as possible and most people aren't on multi million dollar budgets. Most people are using pushrod engines. There's a reason for that.>>28601172Or you could run a 16.5L pushrod engine that actually fits in a roadgoing vehicle...
>>28601175That things got 16.5L of displacement?? fucking hell
>>28601175that engine costs 140 thousand fucking dollars
>>28601175>Stop fixating on top fuel. You were the one that brought up 3s 1/4 mile times
>>28601101*valves drop**harmonic balancer falls off**oil pump shits itself*
>>28601182Yep. It also revs to over 8000rpm. >>28601189Find me a cheaper DOHC engine that fits in a car and makes 2200hp naturally aspirated>>28601190Yeah because it's a nice end goal. I guess running 5's while being street legal would be a more realistic goal.
>>28601198nope. doesnt exist. although one of the top four cylinder engines, Thor, hits 2k with a turbo and is DOHC and is allegedly priced around $82k
>>28601211coyotes cant either without the same level of mods as these chevy big blocks
>>28601198>Yeah because it's a nice end goal.Stop fixating on it
>>28601204Okay? Or you could get a 2500hp TT pushrod V8 crate engine for $50k... So clearly DOHC engines can't compete NA or turbo. >>28601224Don't claim something "mogs" something when it can't complete goals the other alternative has achieved.
>>28601225>Don't claim something "mogs" somethingWhere did I use this word?
>>28601151>Engine choice is irrelevant in circuit racing>but in drag racing the engine is the only part that mattersTHE COPE LMAO
>>28601101why the fuck does each piston have dishes cut out for 4 valves when it only has 2?is that so Cleavontravious cant install it incorrectly or is it because it's cheaper to manufacture that way? With GM it really could be either/both.
>>28601120>FAA certifiedRetarded fucking metric.Thats like bragging that your pistol is certified for sale in california.
>>28601690The pistons have an offset wrist pin which helps reduce piston slap, the dot needs to face towards the front of the engine. Having 4 valve reliefs means they can use the same offset piston on both banks of the engine, instead of having special left bank and right bank pistons.
>>28601704You don't like your engines reliable?
>>28601715Only fucker in this entire thread that knows anything. The LS7 is perhaps one of the best V8s ever made. It has flaws but frankly theyre so well documented that there are a million aftermarket solutions to fix each one, primarily valve drop and the harmonic balancer. Outside of these issues theyre incredibly reliable, like any chevy small block. A C6Z07 has a 7 liter SMALL BLOCK and still makes 30mpg on the highway. Ford fags are unable to comprehend this, they are too busy licking the feet of a company that doesnt care to make good enthusiast cars. Europoors and impoorts are only good at I6s, and thats fine.
>>28601225when power-to-weight ratio matters though the that same v8 won't hold a candle to the elmer i4nothing else does either for that matter besides like motorcycle engines that rev to 20k those boys up in binland did good work
>>28601715Thanks for the explanation, did not know that.So "cheaper to manufacture" being part of GM DNA yet again.
>>28602284hey you shit i know stuff too
>>28602341Power to weight is irrelevant when the engines powerband is basically unusable and the engines lifespan is measured in minutes. At that point you might as well start looking at top fuel engines which make as much power as that 4L with one cylinder.
>>28602739The thor v2 is overbuilt for 2k and runs reliably, mandatory rebuilds are only for if you run it at 3k in qualifying trim. Not for no reason world record time attack cars use it. It's a pretty interesting topic and unlike many engine builders the proprietors like to talk about it, several good videos on the subject.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J87SVqG18sY
>>28602893>>28602739Similarly, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a33c49lnk7I
>>28601101Any engine mogs me. I got two legs that can barely do 10 mph.
>>28602899Your legs can regenerate, they mog any engine and any car because of that
>>28602516i, too, have been known to know things~
>>28602899time for an LS swap
>>28603377>Your legs can regeneratelemme take one of yours then, lizard man
>>28603462Not from scratch, retardIf you snapped your crankshaft, it won't heal, you'd need a new one.
>>28601151>Engine choice is irrelevant in circuit racing. Handling performance on a track is 100% the chassisYou are one dumb son of a bitch.
>>28601225>nobody's made a 32.5L DOHC engine so that means it can't be donekek
>>28604495Okay lets use our big boy words. Explain why 2 identical chassis' with different engines that both weigh the same and have the same power and torque bands will perform differently. This should be good. inb4 I've tested both in my video games. >>28604499Anything can be done but why the fuck would you? Do you have any idea how big a 32.5L DOHC engine would be? Even then what would be the point when a 60+L pushrod engine is the same size?
>>28604588>different engines>exact same powerband and torque curveCase in point.
