1971 Deville work. Re-rebuilding my Rovhester Quadrajet, as I was concerned it was causing my current no start issue. I have another thread thats still a little active, would love a hand diagnosing this from anyone now that I've got it taken apart again.

So then you checked timing and spark and compression and fuel pressure.

Just clean it all out. Blast every port hole with brake clean and compressed air. Clean the float and idle control and every port within them. Reset all the jetting to factory on assembly.

Consider double pumping it or float return if you are having fuel pressure issues.

btw my guess is that it's actually a fuel supply issue, assuming all the aforementioned is fine and carb has been rebuilt and factory set. many such cases in this era of motorized horse drawn carriage from the 1900s.

>fuel supply issue
If the gas tank has never been dropped then it's fucked and needs a deep clean, probably a new fuel sock too or maybe even a sending unit if your fuel gauge is unresponsive. Change the inline fuel filter and if the mech pump is old do that too

Its a quadrajunk.
There.
Found your issue.
What do I win?

Oh look, another wrenchlet.

That power-piston in pic? That's one of only two q-jet weak points. That "L" connector at the top can come loose from the plastic and has to be JBWelded. Your's looks good. Polish it up a little with some crocus cloth - it has to move FREELY in the bore, as it is pulled down by vacuum at idle and jumps up when you hit the gas. These are the primaries. The SECONDARY metering rods, shown in your other thread? I'd remove them before putting the whole shebang back together. They are easy AF to bend. One straightslot screw, on the hanger and they will pull right out of the upper section and make it a lot easier to put everything back together.

OP here, I got it fixed right up, and I did jist that with the secondaries, yanked em before putting the upper assembly back on, put them on last. She runs all good now! Turns out my dumbass flooded the bowl when I pre-filled it from the vent at the front of the carb. She started right up after a shot of starter fluid this time round, and started unassisted thereafter.

Though now I have a new, albiet smaller, issue. That shitt little brake line fitting that holds the double flared fuel line in the carb is leaking slowly. A solid drip every few seconds, and you can hear pressure leaving amd bubbling when I kill the engine.

Any known substitutes to that double flared fitting? Hard to get a good seal on them shits.

In any regards, she's running again. I appreciate everyones help. And any tips for dealing with hard fuel lines on old POS GM engineered engines would be awesome.

Nice job OP:) I can't think of another way to do the fuel line, without using some fancy flexible line-adapter. I could be wrong, but it's probably cheapest to just bend and flare a new line. I'm surprised it's leaking with only a couple psij of fuel on it - it's gotta be dinged up pretty bad. Are you SURE it's the line and not the housing that holds the inline filter? That used to come with a flat O-ring that sealed it to the carb body.

I'm betting the leak is not from the double flare but from the fuel filter housing fitting instead. Like Anon mentioned it should have a thin plastic gasket installed.

Another thing about 'Jets and that fitting. ALWAYS use two wrenches when loosening or tightening the double flare fitting. At best you'll twist the fuel line up and at worst strip out the threads in the carb body. Further, when putting that fuel filter fitting into the carb you should always try to get it all the way seated by hand. It's fine thread so really easy to cross-thread and one sign is having to use a wrench to get the fitting seated but not yet tight.

What YouTube video did you get your opinion from?

Gimme a break here. Nobody ever liked the things until some off-roader found they could take a pretty good angle and still function reasonably well and posted a youtube or something about it sometime relatively recently. So, if anything, the reverse of what you said is true. Hell, even Popular Hot Rodding couldn't rehab the the 'Bog's reputation when the did a series back in the 90's that showed one could support about 500hp (with work) which was a lot then.

Now that I think about it, this whole Other carbs rule/Holley's drool business only started after everyone stopped working with carbs and went EFI. Used to be you couldn't give a QuadraBog away and only Mopar nuts would take a Carter (for free, of course, since they never had money)
