When does car leasing make sense? My GF is looking for a new car, she wants something "reliable and modern crossover SUV" like an RAV4, CRV, or CX9.I cannot convince her to get something old and reliable, like a 3rd gen RAV4.I will not stand by her buying anything after 2018. She is looking at 2020/22 model years.Budget is $20kShe is going back to school to get a Master degree and will using it for that, and work. She wants a nice car that we can also road trip in. (I prefer to rent a minivan for road trips as I only have small shitboxes) so she wants a ying to my yang.Does it make sense to lease a car then? I've been showing her the Lexus equivalent of the RAV4, the NX line, but those are too expensive used with low mileage. If she likes it, we can buy it out. If not, trade it in and keep leasing a modern car, since that's what she wants.Thoughts?
If you can't convince her to do the right thing why are you asking what you can do? Lease makes sense here I guess in that you don't have a fucking choice.
>>28603957Leasing is perfectly fine if you want a worry free, zero maintenance driving appliance and don't want to deal with selling a vehicle. Buying out a lease pretty much never makes any sense especially if you have to finance the buyout. The whole point of a lease it to get into multiple leases so you're always driving something new. Usually if you do that and make all your payments on time the stealership will give you a little bit of a break from the ass fuck and bump you up a trim for the same payment.
I can’t imagine you’re found to find dealers leasing 2020 cars. They typically don’t lease more than one to two model years back.
>>28603957everything you are saying is contrary to a lease.A lease you are locked into mileage constraints. If she is traveling to school and wanting to go on road trips, she will end up paying a shit ton of money becsaue she goes over mileage.I knew a dumbass that leased while delivering pizzas on the side, then moved to uber eats to make full time money. He owed something like 35c a mile and almost 20k to turn it in.
Keep your financial portfolios separate lest you become unhappy AND poor
>>28604011This. been married 25 yrs and we keep mainly separate finances for my sanity. if she needs money, i give her some but I cant handle unexpected expenditures. also if she's not even listening to you now, while you're just fuck buddies then i'm not sure what you expect to happen in the future.also: a cx-9 is quite a bit bigger than those other two so maybe you just need to leave her the fuck alone to make the decision, then you wont be dragged into the blame game if shit goes pear shaped
>>28603957If you're paying, don't lease. She's already not listening to you, you'll get boned with the mileage constraints, as mentioned, when she goes "road tripping."
>>28603957Leasing only makes sense when you only want to drive a car for three years or less. You pay for the convenience of not having to sell it.
>>28603957>have no job>getting to more debt for a masters>let me lease a used car>I can only afford $20k cars tooshe sounds like she is really smart. also i'm not sure what the fuck she is looking at but the cheapest 2020 RAV4 in Chicago is one with LE trim and 119k miles.
>>28604165>2020 RAV4 in Chicago is one with LE trim and 119k miles.for $18k
>>28603957You can only lease new vehicles
>>28603957Daring today, aren’t we?
>>28603957Do not pay for her car, you idiot. She does not need a crossover. My gf had a 2010 civic she bought new for 13 years. Wifed her 6 years ago and bought her a new BMW x5 in cash when we had children. Do not go into debt for a car, especially if she's getting some meme degreeAlso, don't try to convince her into something she doesn't want. If it doesn't work out she'll blame you for it. Don't use your money or cosign a loan for her car. You guys don't seem too financially savvy judging by your post and not even understanding leasing
>>28603957Seems like road trips are a priority for her. You can get a 2021 cx9 for 20k, at least here in the southeast. Mid size crossovers are much more comfortable for long trips.
>>28603957>My GF is looking for a new car, she wants something "reliable and modern crossover SUV"dump that whore
>>28603957An ancient RAV4 won't even have CarPlay dude, you really want your girl to show up to her friends in something that doesn't even have basic features?
I like driving my wife's cx-9. You don't have a wife so I think you should back off completely and not involve yourself in this lease/purchase at all though lol
Getting a masters degree is probably a far worse financial mistake than leasing a car.
Im a khhv but it seems kind of crazy to buy your gf, not a wife, a car...
>>28603957leasing makes sense if you run a business with a fleet of cars that absolutely cannot have downtime and the leasing deal gives you a free rental every time a car is in for service. we had that at one of my previous jobs. doesnt matter if they cant supply an equal car on short notice, if i delivered my van for an emergency repair i was still in business having thrown all my tools into a vw polo, even a ford ranger did the job.you can also make deals such that the leased car is basicly used up after 3-5 years (work vans will be...) then you swap it in for a new one.for a private person it makes no sense, its always better to buy. let your gf lease her car and you buy your own used reliable car, offer her a drive every time her car is in for service.
>>28603957>When does car leasing make sensenever
>>28603957Do the math on how much leasing vs monthly payment for owning. Leasing is MUCH higher and you get no return when you want a new car, you have no asset to sell or trade.
>>28603957if you make a lot of money. like $250k+ per year, and lose money if your car breaks down and you need to waste time towing et ceterathat's literally it.>whybecause when you lease(or finance) you're required to take comprehensive insurance, which is $300+/mo versus what you normally would have chosen for $75-$100. so now you're paying not just $450 for your CX5 lease or w/e, but another $300 for your stupid insurance.not reading your gay post either.
>>28607277>what you normally would have chosen for $75-$100My cars are worth between 28-70k, I have comprehensive on all of them, and 2/3 are paid off. You're fucking bonkers only paying liability if your car is worth a shit. Too many brownoid renters on the road these days.
>>28607284Stop living near them.
>>28607284>I have comprehensive on all of themgood goy
>>28603957Leasing literally never makes sense. It's ALWAYS bad. It's a deal designed by the dealership to make the dealership more money. Why would they ever lease a car if it was less profitable than selling it?>oh but it's for people who want to get a new car every 3 yearsIt still makes more sense to finance and trade in
>>28607775it does but solely for >>28607277. that includes businesses too. otherwise it's retarded. some people will say it's actually good if it's a car that depreciates really fast like EVs but why would anybody want that shit anyway.
>>28607277>>28607284>>28607286>>28607738comprehensive insurance covers hit and runs and accidents caused by you, like backing into a fire hydrant, rolling your car back into a wall, or scraping a pylon. it also fully covers you in a rental so you dont have to buy their overpriced insurance.its also very cheap on an older vehicle, im paying an extra $76 per 6 months.
>>28607775Don't worry about the dealership making money lol. The guy who owns it is probably one of the richest fuckers in your city. Dealerships push leases because they take that low mileage, well maintained vehicle after your lease and then finance it out to some retard at pretty much the MSRP at 30% interest. All you people claiming leasing is a waste of money should post your bank statements. I bet you waste a lot more than a lease payment on stupid shit every month.
>>28607851useless unless you're a womanmen who can't drive should be castrated
