So carbon ceramic brakes are just a meme? The more track days I go to, the more I realize that no one there has carbon ceramic brakes. Cars that had them originally equipped are all converted over to steel rotors usually AP racing stuff.Owners I talked to have said the steel rotors actually have a better brake pedal feel and the replacement parts are a fraction of the cost.So why are manufacturers still using carbon brakes then??
Better longevity at the track and less brake fade"Better feel" is probably just because they're used to driving with steel pads
Yes. People who actually track have steels because it's way cheaper to go through the consumables
Don't virtually all race cars have carbon brakes tho
>>28607050>So why are manufacturers still using carbon brakes then??Carbon ceramics are superior, but not enough to actually justify their cost outside of top tier competition use. As to why they're offered on road cars, they're expected to last the life of the car as it's doubtful they'll see prolonged track use, and people with more money than sense are willing to drop the extra cash when the salesman explains how much better they are. There's no question that *some* guy out there is getting 100% of the benefits that those carbon ceramics on his M3 or GT3 RS offer, but 95% of those cars won't ever be driven to a point where the discs need replacing during the original buyer's ownership, and they're equipped as a fashion statement. I vaguely remember watching a podcast where a McLaren salesman was actively discouraging clients from getting carbon ceramics if they only use the cars on the street, simply because there were so many complaints from people about them squealing during regular driving.
>>28607069High level race teams are more willing to trade piles of cash for a few tenths of a second.
>>28607069gt3 uses steelthen they put carbon ceramics on road car versions of the same thing to sell to paypigs that will never step foot near a track at 400% markupthey do this while laughing at you
The only real downside to carbon ceramics is cost. And trackfags need cheap consumables unless they’re actual professional racing teams or they’re truly loaded (which most trackfags are not).I’d argue they’re a better idea for a mostly street driven car because they will likely outlast the rest of the vehicle.plus they generate almost no dust and don’t shit up your wheels while delivering stopping power you have to experience to believe. But yeah replacing them is painfully expensive so don’t chip them while fucking around on your shitbox.
>>28607050>carbon ceramic brake rotors>time to service brakes>5k per rotor>???>buy steel rotoraint rocket science.
>>28607050>So carbon ceramic brakes are just a meme?Yes>So why are manufacturers still using carbon brakes then??Options are a cash cow. Go to the porsche site and build a 911GT3 with and without all options.
>>28607050It's for richfags and pro teams, not weekend warriors
>>28607881>It's for richfags and pro teamsTranslation:>It's for F1 and Hypercar teams, maybe LMP2 (I don't remember)Nobody else in racing uses carbon brakes.
>>28607069Racing brake rotors are carbon-carbon, not carbon ceramic. It's a different material.>>28607073The 911 GT3 bros tell me the AP racing stuff actually has less brake fade and better lap times compared to the carbon ceramic stuff.
