Depends. If you have the time I say possibly, you're saving a lot of money doing repairs and maintenance yourself.

If you do not, then no. You're already cucked by not having the time.
>>
>>28608616
Yes
>>
>>28608616
Only if your time is of no value.
>>
>>28608616
It's no different than letting another man service your girl, except you're paying him to do it
>>
No. People here who are overly concerned with "car culture" are cuckolds. Literally begging for used goods or pining after a used object everyone has already used and damaged
Or making payments for the privelage of owning a deprecated model past its expiration date. And the only way thats not true is if your car is your property, not an extension of your personality, and you are free to do whateverthefuck you want with it and manage it how you want.
>>
>>28608649
I've never owned a girl car, so is that like paying someone to give my bro a handy?
>>
Well you're letting a fat, latino ass ugly bastard put his greasy hands on your beauty, I will let you do the math
>>
In my opinion, it depends. If you're busy and paying someone to do it frees you up for a more lucrative opportunity, then do that if money is what matters to you. For me, it's the satisfaction of a job well done and the clout of being able to say to others, "hey see that cool shit? I did that". I also have extreme trust issues so the money and time aspect is irrelevant to me. In short, do what makes sense for you and disregard others opinions.
>>
No people just like bragging about being able to do something. They can work on their car themselves and that makes them feel special but they ignore the 1000 other things that they choose to not do themselves and instead pay someone else to do. The guy calling you a cuck for not fixing your own car sees nothing wrong with the clothes on his back being made by someone else, his food being grown and transported by someone else, living in a house made by someone else, buying all manner of things made by someone else, going to a barber, going to a doctor, going to the vet, etc. and he doesn't even know the definition of "cognitive dissonance"
>>
>>28608616
Not really. In fact I can't think of anything more Chad than having a long detailed phone conversation with a shop technician you know is honest from the outset.
>>
no. but try it once just to experience all the lack of the fun that you'd be missing out on other wise.
>>
>>28608616
The only shit a grown ass man should be letting other men do is alignments and tires. These only get a pass since they require really large equipment and under no circumstances should another man be performing these services unsupervised. It's already humiliating enough.
>>
>>28608616
No. Wrenching is for poors and people who enjoy it as a hobby. Those are the only two categories.

If you're concerned about the money, you're poor. If you just like wrenching on projects, enjoy yourself, no different than any other hobby.

Depends on your time and the difficulty of the job. I don't have a lift at my place and my car is low, so I can only do stuff that is under the hood and leave the rest to a shop.

It's odd seeing the replies in here considering I have seen this same question asked on /o/ over the years, and only a decade ago everyone would be saying you're a cuck if you don't do all the maintenance on your car.
>>
>>28608965
Everyone with a car is too busy working to pay for repairs for the car to make sure they can work to pay for repairs.
>>
>>28608968
I guess shit has changed a lot over the years. Maybe all the wrenchers now have jobs and realize there isn't time for wrenching as often (self included to a point, I don't detail my car every weekend like I did when I was a part timer on shit wages).
>>
>>28608616
It depends, I do a most of my own wrenching, but that was my job for several years. If you're less experienced, you'd probably be more likely to break stuff than fix it. In which case I'd take it to a reasonably priced mechanic. This also only applies if you drive something cool/interesting. If you're driving a crossover or SUV then you're a cuck by default. Especially if someone else works on it
>>
>>28608756
you can do alignments with string but it's quite annoying. still useful if say you had to tear down the entire front suspension or whatever and now just put it back, at least that's enough to get you to a place that has the pro equipment.

When discussing any neglect regarding your vehicle, that data makes it back to your insurance company and impact your rates.
Your every keystroke is logged, weather you hit post or not.
Yes, even you.
>>
>>28608987
Alignments also cost basically nothing and they have some really good equipment at tire shops. I only pay about $15 for the place near me to do it.
>>
>>28608711
The difference is besides the house, car repairs are far more expensive than everything else. I’d save like $20 cutting my own hair whereas I regularly save hundreds doing my own repairs and maintenance.
>>
>>28608616
Yes, i haven't taken any of my cars for service in decades. Last time i had a shop do work i yanked my transmission for them to rebuild it
>>
>>28608993
>$15
More like 15 dicks because you're riding on some McDonald's strutted shitbox kek, fuck automatics too
>>
yes, even if you have warranty. kek wrenchlet
>>
>>28608649
If you have warranty its the equivalent of letting another man service your girl but you get to have her prettier virgin sister afterwards (or something idk)
>>
>>28608616
I wouldn't trust anyone else to do things properly.
>>
>>28609193
based wrenchlet annihilator
>>
>>28608616
only if you pay for it
>>
>>28608616
No. Time is money, anon.
>>
>>28608616
depends on the repair. I wouldn't expect the average person to do something more complicated than an oil change desu.
but if you have something like a stuck brake light and end up paying a shop $200 just to replace the pedal switch then yeah you're a cuck.
>>
>>28609193
>refusing services covered for free under warranty or recall so you're not perceived as a wrenchlet on /o/
now this is true mindbroken cuck behavior
>>
>>28609734
>chad will TEAR APART my wife's pussy for free
>i dont even have to pay him this time haha!
>>
>>28608616
If your mechanic is a white male that actually knows anything about cars and doesn't rip you off with the costs then no.
Good luck finding one of those though.
>>
>>28608746
>bends your pinch welds on the lift
> cross align your car telling you but its in spec with a smile
nothing personal kid
>>
>>28608993
>$15 Baghdadi alignment.
everywhere else in the world its about $150 for just the front end and as long as the numbers are green they think its all good. Not the case.
>>
>>28608987
why would you pay after using string? 1mm is something like .1 of a degree. set all wheels to zero and then toe in or out. I guess it would really depend on the car and how much you can adjust. im talking about most modern crap that only has toe setting.
>>
>>28609706
Yep. The people who need to wrench make under triple digits/hour.
>>
Wrenching to me is curiousity and not trusting garages and wanting to be self reliant. And having excuses to buy moar tools
>>
>>28609808
maybe you have a point. in fact, when I need parts I'll fabricate my own from now on. maybe I should build my own car from scratch so I can drive something that hasn't been molested by someone else's hands.
>>
>>28608616
You are a cuck, but not for the reason you think.
>>
>>28608616
if you can fix it with a jack and some basic tools, then yeh you're a cuck.
if it needs a lift/pit to fix, then you're just being sensible by getting a shop to do it.
>>
depends.
old shitbox?
yeah
McLaren and similar?
no
>>
When you know your limits. I'm just going to pay a guy to regear my rear instead of failing at it over and over because I have zero experience with that. At the end of the day who gives a fuck? Who are you trying to impress? Just don't get ripped off on the work. Are engineers cucks for churning out designs and letting the trades and techs build them?

That is the way.
>>
>>28613417
owning a track car/supercar and not being able to fix it is extra cuck behavior
>>
>>28614801
Yeah because all a guy who drops a million dollars on a for fun car where any measure of serviceability was more of an accident than a design decision wants to do is take the engine out himself every time he needs to do an oil change.
>>
>>28608616
yes but also no, like jerking off to porn

The area I live in is all white (rural living) and I've never had an issue with the alignment job they do.
>>
The only thing I don't do myself are alignments and machine work.
>>
>>28616826
Your car can drive straight and be in the green on the laser machine but still way off. I'll give you an example rear toe spec: .15 degrees+/- .07 degrees . rear left toe set to -.26* . rear right .38* . total rear toe .12* in spec but fuuucked up
>>
>>28614824
If you cant fix it then surely you cant drive it properly . Next
>>
>>28608616
No. Some of the fastest professional racers have never replaced a car battery before.
>>
>>28608616
it depends if you make more money per hour than the mechanic or not. if the mechanic makes $30/hour and you make $40/hour you might as well pay him the $30/hour then head straight to your job making $40/hour and pocket the $10/hour profit.

if you make less per hour than him then in many cases its best to do it yourself
>>
The only thing i do myself are alignments and machine work
>>
>>28608616
No. My time is worth more than the labor. Let the mechanic handle it.
>>
>my time is worth
nothing since you post here.
>>
>>28617039
its $150 an hour now grandpa
>>
>>28608616
No, who the fuck cares what other people think. Seriously no one fucking cares except autistic people who aren't worth caring about.

Just understand how to change your tire in case you get a flat somewhere far from home, especially out midwest where tow might take hours.
>>
>he didn't built his car from scratch
Pft, cucks
>>
>>28616826
>white (rural living)
yippee, a bunch of white trash
