This one actually has Miata general in the title unlike previous thread, nice.

I wanna go standalone this winter.megasquirt vs beermoney vs MS3 vs fishdogWhat is the difference between them? no meme answers pleaseI have a BP4W in an NA6 chassis. I want to remove the CAS, and switch to a hall effect crank sensor. I am also considering coil on plugs. I will be keeping it NA, currently have a square top mani. Can I do that with plugin play ECUs like MS3?What else do I need besides a new TPS? What kind of intake will I need to switch to? How long should it be?
>>28612406OP image is peak automobile
>>28614927I went with BMM for my NB so I have a slight bit of experience there. Their quick start guide has info on what all extra NA6 needs, and yes it supports COP. When I was shopping for my ECU I was told in no uncertain terms to avoid Megasquirt/MS3 as they cost so much more for very outdated hardware. https://www.beermoneymotorsports.com/pages/miata-quick-start-guide
>>28615289its literally a MS3PNP though, even the same options plug.
>>28615403No? It runs FOME open source software on a RusEFI Proteus board, just with the OEM Miata ECU connectors attached. Megasquirts use their own proprietary boards and software. Just because they're both plug and play with the same ECU and options plug connector block doesn't mean they're the same thing at all, I'm guessing the guy behind BMM simply found the same supplier for the ECU connector block as MS uses, which would have been cheaper than developing their own just to be different.
>>28615455Your link literally asks for tunerstudio which MS also uses.
>>28615475A lot of ECUs use it nowadays, especially homebrews.Me being a MS and Speeduino builder, can only tell you... The MS may not be perfect but especially with the MS3 and onwards, it's miles away from the Speedy and it's derivatives in terms of capacities and reliability.
>>28615475That's the tuning program, not the software in the ECU itself.
>>28612406>>28615263sometimes I think about removing my passenger seat for the storage space and since nobody ever wants to ride in my miata anyway. but I think more people would try to race me assuming it was for race track weight reduction purposes.
>>28616185I did for about 3 weeks while doing wiring, no one cares. Did enjoy the massive amount of space though, but you will be surprised how much sound the seat muffles by being present than absent.
>>28616963Nothing but a thin layer of firewall between the seat and the exhausts kek. I was a bit shocked by that when I was replacing the rear O2 sensor. Cut a hole in one specific part of the carpet and hello exhaust.
I am going to finally plug in my MS3PNP this weekend and see if I can flash to a new firmware. I still don't know shit about tuning
Welp boys, it's possible over for the year.Went for a drive, heard a weird noise, went to investigate, bad rear wheel bearing. I can see a light wobble of the wheel. Waiting on a tow truck.I used the BroFab kit for the rear, I don't know what failed yet. Maybe the axle nut came loose. Hopefully it's just the wheel bearing, should be an easy fix.
>>28617863Never mind. It was just a loose lug nut. Thankfully the extended studs did their job. I run aluminum lugs that ask for 70lb. I retightened them all to 80. I feel dumb. But hey.
Currently shitting Very soon I will jack it up, take all the underbody panels off, take out outside to finish cooling, use a salt rinse car soap, blast the fuck out of the under carriage and then leave it to dry overnight. And tomorrow she gets the full cosmoline treatment after she's good and dry
>>28617956Why Cosmo? Why not body cavity wax?
Literally handfuls of soggy leaves out of these two holes, on both sides. Had to fish then out with chopsticks, my hands through the hole the designers kindly put in the wheel well, and pressure wash like mad>>28617997I really like cosmo for the exterior surfaces, it holds up incredibly well. You can see a bit of it in this pic, down in the wheel well from when I did a coating of it 4.5 years ago. Daily driven in the rust belt year round.I'm going to hit every crevice of frame with the Eastwood internal frame coat pro, then every exterior surface with a touch up of Cosmo, I could probably add some cavity wax on top of the IFC for good measure. Maybe I'll do that, any product suggestions?
>>28617917I have a set of anodized black lugs I was going to use, when I put the very first one on, the anodized wore off on the corners and it looked like shit. Literally only used one and I have 15 brand spanking new ones just sitting in a box. Waste of money for me. Glad they work for you.
Car is clean and mostly dry. Been in the garage with heaters running all night. When it warms up a bit more I'll put it in the driveway to finish drying in the sunSo game plan for today..Prioritizing the internal frame coating in the frame rails, rockers and quarters, because I'm not sure what kind of state they're in and I want to neutralize anything that's already in there. If I have extra it's going in the subframesCosmo on all of the exterior surfaces, let it tack up for a few hours and do a second coat of cosmoI also ordered 6 cans of surface shield and a 3m fogging wand to go through and hit every cavity again later this week. Probably good to have something that doesn't dry, and has good creep to get into every crevice. And I won't have to obsessively clean to apply surface shield like the cosmoline requires, so no big deal if it gets a little bit more dirty in the rails from dding
>>28618897Make sure you post pics, I am interested in the progress
>>28615289>>28615403>>28615455>>28615475>>28615475>>28615480>>28615543so what is the consensus? I have no experience tuning shit.A local shop said they will tune for $1500On the Miata forums some guy offered remote/online tuning for $800I do have an old laptop if that matters.I want to get a basic tune and limp the car over to the shop. I have no idea how a remote tune even works. Thanks
>>28618951Absolutely pumped these holes fill of it, got all the way up behind the arch. Put it on heavy for best chance of sleeping into cracks. Also took the door sill trim out and shot it into the 4 holes on each rocker. Taped 3 up, spray one, move a piece of tape to the one I just sprayed etc. keep it from blowing out at me.Little beer break then I'm going under the car and hitting rails. Ended up using about 1 can per rocker and quarter. Probably overkill
Job done. Awkward hitting the wheel well with cosmoline, got some real bad runs but it'll dry eventually. Still some internal frame coating dripping out of the rockers. Wiping it periodically as it dries. I'll poke the holes out if they need it when it's dried tomorrow
>>28619098Fab9 does tuning by the hour. Just send them your logs
>>28617917>aluminum nutThere's no way that's a real thing, who would even make something like that? Aluminum is basically cheese, you can make it work for some things, but a nut is not one of them; it's just going to creep loose.
>>28619338>>28619225>>28619139
>>28618348>anodized black lugsUse a black permanent marker for touch-ups.
Got my megasquirt updated to 1.6.1, now just gotta make a new intake and ditch that MAF and then figure out how the fuck to tune it.
>>28603945 replying to this.I played with the alternator belt, it didnt make a difference.my belts make a horrible squeaking only when starting on cold, it goes away after like 4 seconds and doesn't ever come back. the krikit gauge is $30 on amazon, it used to be $11. im not paying that tariff price.new water pump, new alternator, new ps, ac compressor works.as i mentioned earlier, the 1.8 alt mount bracket that i upgraded is very flimsy. maybe something isnt aligned? but then it would be making the noise the entire time.everything else seems to be good, when i had the belts off every pump and pulley spun fine.i'll have to dig in deeper and remove the intake and pull the belts and look things over again. what could this be?
>>28620537If the squeak is worth less to you than $19 then I guess you are fine with living with it.

Bros, how do i deal with these limestone stains on the car? I tried some car cleaning product yet they still remain. At home i have vinegar based cleaner made for kitchen use but i dont want to try it in case its too harsh for the clear coat and paint. pic related is not my car but it does look similar
>>28620704vinegar will remove it but also takes off the wax. they have water spot remover though.
>>28620704Clay bar it then compound and wax in that order
>>28620755>>28620780thanks
24 hrs since I finished the internal frame coat, still dripping out of one rocker drain hole. I know I definitely got full coverage ha. Been playing the poke all the drain holes with a zip tie every few hours game. I drew on the rocker seam with a sharpie so I know exactly where the drains are and can make quick work of it. Also it dropped out of the rockers in places where there aren't even drain holes so there were definitely spots water could get into that weren't intended. Unless I missed something there are 5 true drain holes on each rocker. In front of and behind each jack point and one in the middle
What mpgs are you all getting in your Miata?I got an NA8, and I'm topping out at 21mpg.Now I go into 5th gear as much as I use reverse, and I drive quite spiritually. It also smells rich
>>2862110732-34ish average in my NDLow as 24 when I'm agro
I have a confession to make, I bought a miata so I could pretend to drive an old british roadster around. The flared arches on the ND really make me think there's round headlights at the front. But now that I'm comfortable with it, I feel like it's not doing it for me anymore. How terrible of an idea would it be to sell my safe, comfortable, powerful little go-kart for a 50 year old scrap heap with a hamster wheel for an engine?I think when I looked into this last time you couldn't even get insurance for such a thing outside of hagerty that lets you drive it once a month when the stars align, jupiter is at it's highest point in the sky and the sun casts it's shadow between noon and 3 o clock.
>>2862110729mpg in my 2002. I tried to get 30 and can but that's without giving it really any gas for the entire tank. That's with 93e0 though, I get around 25 on regular 93.
>>28621294Insurance is full coverage for hageity. Anyone will give you liability insurance.
>>28621294Drove an MGB for a few months. I loved the ambience of the 60's cockpit, but hated the agricultural engine and gearbox. If I wanted a small sports car of that era, I'd choose an Alfa Romeo twin cam.
>>28621493Wow, I'm surprised how much higher the mgb is compared to a miata. I didn't think those old cars were that big.Well that puts a damper on things, it's going to feel slow just from the seating position. But damn does that car look good.
>>28621541>didn't think those old cars were that bigMGB didn't feel much different in size to my NA, maybe a bit narrower
>>28621585Now the miata looks bigger, something weird is going on with the FOV of your phone cam. That's a relief though that they're the same size.
It got more chapters
All my drain holes pass the zip tie test, and it's finally stopped smelling like a Chinese factory with all the fumes the IFC put off while curing. Surface shield coming in a few days and I'll hit the rest of the chassis with that. Lord willing my Miata survives 1000 winters
I found an empty parking lot tonight and drifted for the first time. there were a lot of skid marks so I'm wondering if it's a well known spot or something. it was pretty cool but I should probably buy another set of wheels and tires if I want do this regularly. >>28623238this looks fun. I'm going to read this before bed tonight
My car real does smell like a Chinese sweatshop right now. At the dealer to get my AC diagnosed, just in time for winter. Sorry dealer tech bro I left the windows down for you
>>28624061AC updateso basically my car isnt affected by the tsb for the hi pipe: https://www.miata.net/garage/tsb/MC-10188019-0001.pdf but the most up to date pipe is still the culprit, it cracked on me. the tsb states:>This is caused by a crack in the cooler pipe (HI) A (1) due to engine vibrationdealer quoted 900 for a replace and recharge.i can get the pipe and o-ring for 107 but if engine vibration is the cause, and i already had the thickest pipe which and it cracked, it will happen again.seems like the best option is to upgrade the engine mounts. fab9 sells https://fab9tuning.com/performance-engine-mounts-nd-16-mx-5/getting the pipe, o-ring, mounts, and doing the work myself will still be cheaper than the dealer job and theoretically prevent engine vibration from cracking the pipe in the future. the tradeoff with all upgrade engine mounts is more felt vibration, but i dont want to have the pipe crack again in 5 years.I havent seen much on the forum about more recent cars cracking lines, i wonder if they just baby their cars
Well after a nice drive last night, I think I will go full NA build and not turbo. Something about winding through the rev range in the mountains I like more than what a turbo would make me hear. Also, I don't think I would have as much fun with a turbo since it will be much faster and I can't enjoy the speed gaining as much. Sounds weird but it's kinda like riding a 1000rr superbike but preferring to ride a 450 instead.
>>28624661The road is way more important than the car. I wish I had a road like this and yeah, I wish I could hear that sound coming out of my miata.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR2rjh-D6LM
which one of you fags has a ms+ tune file for a 1.8 vvt swapped na6 with a flattop intakeplease and thank you
>>28624699Yeah it is nice to have, although the road to my work is straight highway so it's incredibly boring.I finally have a racing beat header and it's ceramic coated, and I can't think of trying to sell and ship it. Here is a video I made years back when I got the racingbeat twin tip exhaust. They haven't made it in like 10 years.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V2aUMjplcT8
>>28624810No one, get a base tune from diyauto then pay fab9 for an hour of tuning. It's like $200.
>>28624882I've been meaning to do that or use this guy /stevesremotetuningI finished the swap but I'm stuck in some stupid paralysis where I just think somethings going to break on my first actual drive on the road.fml.
>>28624899My plan is to get tunerstudio to auto tune as best as it can then upload maps on miataturbo and ask for help. I don't want it handed to me and I want to learn but too much going on with work and school for me to really dedicate the time I need for it
Has anyone cleaned the wiper stalk contacts on a NB? I was thinking of buying a new stalk unit off eBay and cleaning it to swap into my car, but it turns out that the wiper stalk is part of the entire assembly that also includes the turn signals. Currently I don't have variable wipers and now the low wiper setting will stop exactly where I pull the stalk back up, even in the middle of the windshield. Sucks having to time the wipers because of a little morning dew.Picture obviously related.
Would I be fucking myself in terms of scca autocross class if I got a mazdaspeed miata? Finally planning to buy a weekend car this spring now that I have a garage, and was thinking mazdaspeed miata, 2zz mr2, or maybe s2k if I can find a decent one for the price. But a bit worried if I buy a speed miata it'll end up super uncompetitive for its class if I ever want to autocross.
>>28625209No but have fun shifting the 6 speed or banging the limiter more often than you like. The 5 speed is barely adequate for autox unless it is a tighter course. You could put in 3.63s and have a very slightly longer 5 speed with OD though.
>one of the most beautiful places on earth (central Italy)>low population density>hills and woods>fun twisties with no other cars on the road at all>graced with great weatherI'm in heaven.
>>28625749Nice to see you out, enjoying the 124 and soaking up that Italian sunshine.
>>28625771Thanks anon. I feel any /mg/ that can reasonably reach central Italy without too much hassle should make this very same trip that I planned: it involves two or three trips a day from beautiful town to beautiful town through insanely picturesque scenery and forests, with half a day of visiting each day (there's history going back 2500 years). I can share it if anyone's interested.
having some fun today
>>28626500Tune mine nextBut seriously how do you learn and how do you know you are on the right track? Well minus the knocking
>>28614927Hey anon, I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but you seem a little lost in the weeds. What are you hoping to accomplish by going standalone? Mega squirt is a tried and true path. I don't know much about the other two options, but you should check with local Miata groups on the various Miata specific forums or FB groups in your area. They'll be able to point you to a good tuner that will specialize in one or more of the standalone ECUs. You can also find base tunes online that will get you limping along with little to no tuning.
Have you taken the fumoto pill?
>>28626887I have one on my Subaru that has a steel oil pan, not risking whacking it on something on my Miata that is both lower and has an aluminum oil pan that requires pulling the engine to remove
>>28626887No. I'm not a lazy nigger. I like my magnetic tips too.Why is your oil black?
>>28626887I wouldn't use that tap thing, but that's a cool oil filter location. Beats my NA for convenience. What model of Mx-5 is that?
>>28627036NTA but that's an ND
>>28626997Because it's holding combustion byproducts in suspension, have you never changed your oil before?
>>28626887never heard of this before and now I'm considering one. are there any downsides?
>>28626500>mintnerd
yesterday i went outside on my break to sit and look at my car and someone else in a Miata pulled into our parking lot, drove around my car, then left. my car wasn't visible from the street or anything so I wonder how they knew where it was
>>28627221yes
>>28627219Oil drains a bit slower (garage beer time) and there's going to be a tiny bit more oil left in in the pan after draining than if you just used a bolt because it's like if you had a bolt drilled through in the center so you have that small bit of added height to reach the drain. I don't think that's an issue because whatever little bit is left is getting diluted by the new oil and any crap gets picked up in the filter. Car calls for 4.5qts with filter, I was just shy of the max dipstick after about 4.3 so it's not much. The main risk if it would be the lowest part of your oil pan (the drain sticks straight down instead of out the side etc) and you don't have a tray that covers it like on the nd, could risk breaking your pan if you hit somethingi just stick a 5gal bucket under the car and let it drain into that, but if you have to put them back in jugs for disposal you can hook a tube up, drain straight into the bottle, cut the stream when it's full, cap it off and move to the next bottle. There's no mess. Also if you were to do an oil analysis, same idea. You can get a mid drain sample without getting oil all over the place
Bought a tunerstudio license today, this shall be fun. Hope the learning curve isn't too rough.
>>28626887 #Stahlbus drain valve for me, buddy, all that convenience without any of the mess.
>>28620537issue resolved. the bottom alternator bolt vibrated its way out. threads got stretched, so i'll need to replace it.
>>28627090i never change oil that fucking late. mine is golden with light shades of brown.>>28628061another useless trash. is it really that hard to remove a drain bolt?
>>28628162Uh that's normal though.. oil looks dark brown/black after like 1000 miles. That's a 2.5k mile oil change. Dark oil isn't bad oil. Oil detergents literally clean the engine, pick up carbon and other shit, keeping them in suspension and not caked on engine componentsDo you change your oil every 500 miles or something?
>>28628162bro, oil goes black really fucking quick. I changed my shit at 1k miles and it would be black. i dont even know why youre dying on this hill or if you're trolling
>>28628186>>28628176nah, you have bad piston rings or something else is wrong.i changed my moms lexus oil at their recommended 10k intervolve, it was dark brown. not black.i sent it out for testing, and everything came out good.i change my oil every 2-3k miles, it comes out golden brown. my valves are still shinny with zero varnish at 180k.
>>28628202Bad rings with 32k on the odometer and oil changes every 2.5-3k, I don't think so lol>i change my oil every 2-3k miles, it comes out golden brown.Did you delete your egr system or what? I'm gonna need to see a pic of your oil as it's draining because I don't believe your oil comes out like pic rel with 3k miles on it
>>28628489i also don't believe him, because oil naturally darkens from oxidation, even if the car isn't run.
>>28628491ND also has """internal EGR""" cam phasing that means at cruising load the combustion chambers are 10-20% exhaust gases for emissions and fuel efficiency, which would make it darker faster. But again that's stuff that's suspended in oil and not caked on the internals. Dark oil doesn't mean bad oil. Early 2000s boomer car forum "I only use amsoil cuz it's the best, no I will not elaborate, it just is" type shit

When did the shift happen from people generally not caring or making fun of you, to absolutely adoring the NA miata?I had one back in 2015 and nobody would care except for jap car guys.Got one again in April this year and overpaid like crazy of course. Thing is, I can't even remember all the props and compliments I've gotten so far in just a couple of months. And it's not just other car guys, normies too. I've had like 3 coworkers I never even talk to compliment me on the car, people at gas stations or at the golf course parking lot chatting me up to talk about it. People fucking love NA miatas now.Your milage may vary with an NB and beyond.
>>28628852Covee lockdowns made a difference. People stuck in the house realized what motoring fun the Miata is. That's when the prices shot up. Also, eventually the gaslighting doesn't work anymore, as people work out that the old meme doesn't match reality.
I still find 3500$ NAs but I can't shake the feeling they are all basket cases

>>28629474Are you getting commission on that? Why is it twice as much as the FM one??
>>28629582I wish, I just bought it because I needed one fast and it had free overnight shipping. It's CNC machined in the USA by a small company and the FM one appears to be any other off the shelf made in China one. It also already has the hole for a safety wire, which is nice. Overkill 9000, sure, but I'm not exactly crying over an extra $12 to get something well made from somewhere more local.
Bros, I want a Miata and I could afford one but I live in rural Ontario and it feels retarded to buy one here with our winters. The low ground clearance is one thing, but the soft top in the snow? I think I would need a winter beater and I don't really have money and space to maintain two cars.

>>28630375>>28630394So found out what it is. Seal around the oilpan decided to suddenly go and chuck all of the engine juice on the road. I was able to locate a big oily streak on the road where it happened in the daylight. No idea why that happened, but the previous owner used that liquid seal crap to put it on, figuring that must have failed. No sparklies in the oil though nor any signs of serious damage with the pan off, so a mile or so of abuse didn't kill it. Got a new seal set coming in the mail.
>>28626500DANGER TO MANIFOLD
>>28629638personally i'm going for an 09-15 NC PRHT. forged internals and lower compression means it can handle boost i you want to go that route in the future. still get the hard top convertible but when it's down you still get the true convertible experience. more room in the cabin doesn't hurt and it still has a double din head unit so you can drop in something aftermarket to keep it up to date. the 16-23 ND head unit is a piece of shit and can't really be replaced. i also like that the NC isn't spying on you and potentially selling your driving information to insurance companies.
>>28630870brah, your shit is fuckedI highly recommend you send out whatever oil you have left with a detailed description of what happened to https://www.blackstone-labs.com/they will tell you if there are any metals in the oil.before that, I wouldnt waste any money on the engine.I had an oil plug come loose while I was going 50, saw the low engine oil warning come on, i immediately killed the engine, and coasted over. Thankfully there was a Vatozone within walking distance, I picked up the cheapest oil they had, and a new drain plug. I babied the car home, and did a proper oil change the next day. I sent that oil out for analysis. Week later I got results back, no metal contamination. I did the right thing by immediately turning off the engine.you drove home for a mile with no oil pressure.
>>28630920Not bad idea for analysis ye. If its fucked, its fucked.
>>28630936Oh it's fucked dog, dwI second the Blackstone test, I just want to know how much you fucked it. Rod bearings absolutely fucked (you heard knocking so they are already deformed), piston rings probably fucked, crank journals probably fucked, cylinder walls maybe fucked.

Holiday's over. At the very last the satnav sent me on a very unpaved very steep very wild road, up and down a mountain through a forest; it was stressful, but man I had a blast and the scenery was really something else.I love my 124, she's my one and only.
>>28629638>PRHTevery time I see this my braid translates it as FART
>>28630888>personally i'm going for an 09-15 NC PRHT. forged internals and lower compression means it can handle boost i you want to go that route in the future. still get the hard top convertible but when it's down you still get the true convertible experience. more room in the cabin doesn't hurt and it still has a double din head unit so you can drop in something aftermarket to keep it up to date. the 16-23 ND head unit is a piece of shit and can't really be replaced. i also like that the NC isn't spying on you and potentially selling your driving information to insurance companies.Agree with everything you say. 09-15 PHRT would be my choice if I didn't have my NA.

I've had a stock ND2 for half a year now. I like it but I was thinking about how to slightly reduce body roll. Would new springs be enough or are the shocks going to need swapping as well? Not looking for a major overhaul, just something to make my daily a bit more refined.
>>28634404I put cusco swaybars on mine, still running the stock bilsteinsCleaned up the roll quite a bit
>>28634404Always sways first with the ND.
Finally ordered a flat top manifold for the NB. Now just gotta wait for it to come in. I found the part numbers for all the gaskets I need, gonna clean it really good and paint it a somewhat OEM silver or whatever color I have at the house that looks like the stock manifold color.

how long does it normally take for an ECU to get cracked for tuning purposes?
Replaced the master and slave cylinders today, as well as replaced the odd clutch line mess with a HEL braided line that goes straight from the master to the slave. Got to admit, not best part impressed with the braided line. The quality of the part is fine, but to me it seems as thought the line is backwards, and it seems a few inches too long, causing it to rub up against the other pipes nearby. It has to go this direction ass it has a plastic nut that the factory spring clips locate, but I feel as though the kinked hard line should be on the slave side, not the master. Very odd. Partly wishing I just left the factory lines in place.
>>28637624Get a guardian design steering wheel and the verus throttle peddle spacer at least
>>28639130these are things i didn't know i wantedi might get the throttle pedal spacer but that steering wheel is a bit expensive at the moment
>>28639252The pedal spacer is absolutely worth it, improves the toe heeling so much. It's exactly where I wish it was from factory. It's a pretty affordable mod so swing it if you can.The guardian design is pretty pricey, I think mine ran me about 1000. I got the corsa 330 drift (no thumb bumps, just a smooth circular wheel) with perforated leather at 3 and 9, and a noon marker. It's a massive difference in driving experience though desu. I found the OEM wheel to be too thin, large, and awkward.. Very out of place compared to the tight notchy shifter. I optioned the extra thick option from GD but they contacted me recommended I get their standard size which is still considerably thicker than factory and it was the correct move. Also getting to retain the airbag and factory controls is huge, I cant understand how people drive cars with no airbag or hans and helmet on the street

I'm unhappy with the off the shelf gauge mounting solutions for the ND, and the lack of a true oil temp sensor so I bought an extra a pillar trim panel off eBay. Going to modify it to have 3 gauge pods with some cutting and short strand fiberglass body filler, make a gel coat fiberglass mold, and vacuum bag some carbon fiber. Starting with an oil temp sensor to figure out the coding (My wife is programming a teensy 4.0 board and doing the actual gauge assembly for me. She might try messing around with esp32-s3 too. Idk shit about electronics, I just like wrenching and bodywork). The current plan is to tap into the obd2 12v and ground via a splitter, have small box containing the dev board under the dash somewhere, and then run the cords for the displays (1.8" circular TFTs) to a pillar meaning the depth of the gauges could be kept quite small. The a pillars are obstructive enough as is so keeping pcbs out of the display housing seems ideal. Planning to add oil pressure and transmission oil temp after the first sensor is working correctly. I also want a physical brightness dial linked to all 3.Probably going to take a few months of weekend tinkering. I also can't do too much on the a pillar until we design and 3d print the display housings and I figure out how to best incorporate them. The tweeter is also in a prime gauge location so that might need to be moved higher up on the pilar or deleted
>sit in traffic>temp gauge moves from middle to 3/4>fan kicks in >goes back to middle Should i be worried about this? Shouldnt it always stay in the middle? What could be causing this?

Getting ready to do a brake flush today. Car going on the lift, hopefully finish it today if I don't get too much other things to be done. Would love to gravity bleed overnight but I don't have the tubing nor the buckets to do more than one caliper at a time. Wish me luck, I don't have a mightyvac, just some speed bleeders and DOT4
>>28644307Well speed bleeders made it a million times easier. The rear valves are taller than the front, and are a different part size. Front passenger started to round off, so I put some penetrating oil on for a bit, then tapped it with a hammer and drowned it some more. Used a 6 point ratchet and it came off. The drivers rear I decided to double check and promptly snapped off the valve with a few threads above the caliper. Vice grips couldn't grip them. Went to Lowe's and got some bolt extractors, but lucky me the valves are BRASS and it just drilled them. Ended up getting a new caliper and putting that on. What a day.
>>28644300Will hopefully be low pro enough that it's not really noticable>>28644976Damn rough stuff anon but good job getting it done. Put a lil dab of anti seize on the bleeders next time. Those rotors are looking a lil rough too
>>28645040Yeah the rotors are about 15 years old, they held up good. Powerslots, I recommend them but I don't think they make them anymore? I used hawk hp+ pads last time and they are much harder than the OEM pads, chewed the rotors quite a bit. >>28647924I think people were already anticipating more power in a miata when the ND2 was being released. also, the ND2 has been around for >5 years and has had power options up to forced induction for almost as long. basically, there already exists a bunch of secondhand ND2s ready to be modified in such a manner. no necessity to be the mother of invention anymore. it is unfortunate because the ND3 otherwise is the best of the bunch, if it had more power it would be the perfect goddamn carin the incredible unlikely scenario the ECU does get cracked I would spend half a fortune building mine up because I'm a retard

Im very excited for the new grille for my ND that's coming in tonight
I drove an NC for the first time. Ive had a total of four 1.6 and 1.8 NAs.The NC is still such a nice platform. It's tall and about as body roll-y as an NA stock, but the throttle response, pedal position, shifter, steering, and predictable suspension are still so good, incomparable with a normal commuter car. The torque curve is linear and predictable. The weight isnt bad and I'm sure a little extra power and lower suspension can make up for it. Still lighter than alternative cars of the era.The only negatives were the sun visors suck and the soft top can't easily be closed while sitting in the car.The hate the NC gets is fake news. I would totally buy one just to avoid dealing with as many old car problems on an NA.Now I need to find an ND to drive. I wonder what will be the low point of depreciation, I'd guess they wont get as cheap as NCs.Sorry for the blog. Carry on Miata trannies.
>>28649084Can't you already find nd2s for under 20k? Nd1s probably even cheaper, but who wants that shit

The movement of other cars kicked up dust. But a car cover would be better. The duster can cause swirls if used with any pressure, youre supposed to let the fibers hang down and gently slide them over the car without pressing.
>>28652168>The duster can cause swirls if used with any pressure, youre supposed to let the fibers hang down and gently slide them over the car without pressing.Seems like a situation where you should just let the car be dusty

Does anyone here have any experience with seasucker or treefrog suction cup roof mounted bicycle racks? I'm in Europe and I don't want to spend 2000 euros for a TUV certified hitch to be installed + bike rack on my ND. I also have to drive 1000 km to Germany for it. The reason why it has to be like this is because for a hitch bicycle rack you need to have one with powered lights for signalling and a license plate mount. So they need to fuck with your frame to get the hitch properly mounted to the chassis and get power lines running to power the bike rack. Instead of doing that I was considering dropping 400€ on a suction cup bicycle rack. It would be a lot more tedious to get your bike on and off but it's 1/5th of the price and you don't fuck up your car's frame for resell value.
>>28652238Are trunk mounted racks legal there?
>>28652285Obstructs the indicator lights and maube the license plate. Those have to be very clear. With how small the miata is this will be inevitable. I do see these mounted racks on large camping vans and campers where they're hung above the lights and plate.

Also another dumb question. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a proper fire extinguisher mount in europe for my nd miata? I've been meaning to buy one but can only find NA/NB and one NC model. Are these cross compatible with the ND seats? Or should I just velcro one into my trunk?

You can find welding supply stores pretty much anywhere so you can get your c25 for mig and 100% argon for tig, etc etc. you don't really need a 240 rig for automotive welding, most metal isn't thick enough that a 120 can't handle it

used washers for spacers, so I could adjust level.idk what size space or if at all is needed between bumper and cover. just left 1 finger wide.
next summer going to do something similar to front, because now at speed you can feel front also wanting more downforce.

Anyone drive a manual Miata in a city? I'm in Chicago and wonder how bad it would be since it's basically all a grid
>>28656058Yes, manual ND is my only car. I don't recommend manuals in any traffic jam that lasts longer than 30 mins, otherwise it's just biz as usual. t. Euro
>>28656137I don't really go anywhere that there are traffic jams so that's good to know. It's more daily city traffic with stoplights vs highway standstills
>>28656058it's not bad, just boring like city driving in any car. >>28656137>t. Eurot. weak sissy legs.
>>28626295Please do anon, I'd love to see your roadmap
>>28634404Just a heads up, sways on the ND can be a pain in the ass
Is there a tan or white top available for the ND? I couldn't find one just searching, but thought someone here may know. Love my car, but not a big fan of the black top
>>28656058I drove mine in NYC for 10 days. It was no more annoying than driving any other car in NYC
>>28656532Only the front one. But if you just cut the OEM one up with a sawzaw it's super easy to remove. The reason it's such a pain is because the bushings are pretty much fused to the bar which makes it hard to remove without either destroying it or dropping the subframe
>>28656611>>28656519Cool, then I won't be discouraged!
>>28656268You can do most city driving in 1st and second gear only. Rev that shit up for loads of fun. But generally I just shift from first to 2nd and then 4th (at 50km/h or up) to save fuel.>>28656519It's more that it just sucks all of the fun out of the car when ur in a traffic jam barely moving for 30mins at a time. Especially if this is common. The car is imo pretty bad at extreme low speeds (sub 10km/h) and you will wear out the clutch and other parts prematurely by constantly starting and stopping. Get an auto hybrid for that kind of driving, and it saves fuel.
has an exomotive exocet or westfield SDV owner ever appeared in /mg/?
>>28657072Nope
>>28656888yeah, I'm just joshing you pal. nice RF.
Turns out that thankfully it's the front passenger wheel bearing that is making noise not the rear. Thank God cause the front is bolt on but the rear is absolute trash to press in and out
my new exhaust will be delivered to my home and installed on my car in approximately 36 hoursi shall then drive for 36 hours to break it in
>>8500 maybe a dead engine hehe nbd >>paints great tho!Wtf bros
I just learned that a brand new base trim ND is $20k in Japan. I've never understood why so many weebs want to live there but I get it now. The Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster and Roadster 12R are supposed to be $35k and $51k respectively (converted to USD), so if they ever come West then maybe they'll be 33% more expensive. Maybe not that much since that's a lot to pay for just 16 horsepower more and an aero kit. But I guess exclusivity is a selling point for a lot of people.
>>28658850The soft top ND has a 1.5 in Japan. It's arguably the better choice, over the 2.0, but westerners are absolutely obsessed with displacement maxxing.
>>28658882I didn't know this>The 1.5 produces 130bhp and 112lb ft and hits 0-62mph in 8.3 seconds,That doesn't sound appealing to me whatsoever and I'm curious to know what makes it the better choice. Weight distribution? Reliability?
>>28658882Please develop. In Europe we have the two options and I was going to buy the 2.0 but you got me curious.
>>28658899>>28658911On paper it isn't a very compelling argument but it's the engine that the car was designed around, whereas the 2.0 was a secondary consideration. This is the reason why the ND1 basically just used the engine from the Mazda3, with the ND2 revision essentially just copying the hotter head of the 1.5.In the real world, the front end just feels more alive. Turn in is improved, load transfer is improved, and it just feels more eager on tighter roads. That said, I doubt you'll notice much difference unless you're really going for it.
>>28658911>>28658978If you were purely talking about the nd1 I would agree, the 1.5L is the better car. But having driven both a nd2 1.5l and 2.0l I just prefer the 2.0l because the power gains outweigh the neglegible loss of handling.Tho definitely try out both yourself. Idk about the nd3 as I don't have 50k to buy a new miata and they killed off the 2.0L in Europe too because apparently this is too environment unfriendly compared to all the i6 bimmer """hybrid""'' suv's.
>>28658882That was only true for the ND1 because the original 2.0 had a garbage redline.
>>28659418just installed my roadstersport racei think I need to start in reverse whenever I go for a night drive now
>>28659418I don't know why I replied to you. ignore me
Can I buy an NC2/3 phrt for 15k ? Or less?
>>28661064I want to say yes but honestly I rarely even see them for sale in my area. it probably depends on where you live anyway.
>>28661071Midwest area. I just checked online and prices are nearing $20k wtf happened since last year
>>28661096damn. I just found one for $6.5k in South Carolina. but it's auto so that explains why it's so cheap.
>>28661096I just found one for $13.9k in Maryland if you're down for a long road trip. >2011 manual NC2 w/ PRHT>55k miles>clean title
>>28661119FUCK. If that was anywhere near me, I'd instantly buy that. I'm in Illinois. That's the exact color I want too
>>28661119>>28661126This post has my heart racing honestly, I'm considering it. Flights are $200. I don't even know how to manual (I know the theory but I only have video game sim practice). The only thing I can't really do is assess the car myself which is a big set back
>>28661146call mechanics in the area, see if they can do an inspection for you
putting a fresh engine and trans into the car in the coming weekend, anything i should buy and install before the engine goes in?
>>28661304I have never removed a Miata engine and trans, so definitely take pictures. I have taken my 12a out a few times though and those are super easy
>>28661304>engine degreaser and some sacrificial rags to clean the harder to get to parts of the engine bay while the engine is in >coolant reroute if you were ever thinking about one, will be much easier to get at the backside of the head with the engine out >shifter rebuild kit (even if you've already done it for the old transmission, it's a huge PITA (but possible) to remove the lower shifter boot without damaging it to reuse, I did it but wouldn't do it again) >honda urea grease for all the moving parts of the clutch hydraulics, fork, throwout bearing, clutch splines (use very sparingly here), and shifter>oil pan reseal and rear main if not already done as the pan is not possible with the engine in the car
>>28661190I sent a preliminary offer, if he is down to negotiate a bit, I'll start looking into a mobile mechanic or something.
Flat top is in and getting buzzed clean at work, then paint next!
>>28661808?
>>28661765He read my offer but no response. Dream is dead fellas
>>28661815Flat top intake manifold for an NB, more HP for the north Americans vs their manifold
I know nothing about wheels, I'm I getting a structurally weaker wheel if it's significantly lighter than the factory wheel? Or is it just higher quality materials?
>>28661861Someone from Columbus beat me to it. I'm second on the list argh
>>28661908Honestly depends on the wheel itself, how it was made, and what materials it used. For Hypergrams specifically I think you'll be fine, I've seen loads of miatas on the track with them. Just don't offroad with it.
>>28614908How is he so happy?
>>28662080I'm sure you'll get the next one
>another yellow car thread...
>>28661908i wish i wasnt a 6'8 gorilla so i could fit in that thing comfortably
>>28662956Have you tried the Boxster and Z4? At 6'8 I think even the S2K won't fit you.
>>28662956Are you black?
How wide are ND seats? Girl kinda wants one.
>>28663462Is she fat?
>>28663463No, just has wide hips.
>>28612406Could I get a decent condition Miata for $7k? Don't know anything about them, I'm just playing with the idea of having one as a fun car.
>>28663471so fat.Just don't get one with the Recaro seats
>>28663715Yeah probably, a decent na is like 4-7, nb like 6-10 around here
