What vehicles are the easiest to maintain and do repairs on, with the most well-designed and simplest systems?
>>
>>28613193
Big ass 4 cylinder Camry or Accord non turbo
>>
>>28613193
some 90s GM SBC powered anything RWD
>>
>>28613193
>What vehicles are the easiest to maintain
anything petrol (avoid diesels) Jap pre-2010
avoid germs at all costs unless you want to learn how to haul a motor to do a basic repair
>>

I know a car
>>
>>28613193
a vehicle made after obdII and before 2008 or so
a vehicle that was sold with physically larger engine options but has a smaller engine in the car
natural aspirated gasoline or turbo diesel
rwd is usually simpler than fwd
something manual

thats pretty good general criteria for a reliable car
>>
1930's Fords. Except for the banjo style differential maybe.
>>
>>28613257
you need to be under 80 to post here gramps
>>
- rwd
- manual
- no electronics, manual everything, no computers, no airbags, no AC
- body on frame, not monocoque
- smaller engine option

that's just my hunch

Citroën 2CV.
I remember a trip through Chott-el-Jérid (salt desert south of Tunisia). My 2CV was leaking oil. I fed it a banana through the breather. I managed to get to the closest city (+/- 50 km)..
>>
>>28613278
You're correct, as long as the issue isn't with the speed controller, but he said cars not appliances.
>>
Would have to be a resto-mod with a DIY EFI system. There is no period in history in which the beautiful simplicity of a vintage body had been combined with the performance of modern EFI.
>>

Yeah but carbs clog when they sit, clogs when it gets dust in it, clogs when the fuel is bad, barely tunable for 1 season at one altitude per year, shitty performance/mileage, just a bad idea.

>carbs clog when they sit, clogs when it gets dust in it, clogs when the fuel is bad,
buy socket set. remove carb. clean carb. carb is good.
>barely tunable
buy flathead screwdriver, tune carb.
>>
>>28613321
if you know how to get carbs running good you gotta jet them for the season and altitude. they run year round but they'll be lean/rich depending. simple physics. efi has no such issue
>>
>>28613337
This, modern efi, especially if it's got an injector in each port is a fucking miracle compared to the junk people used to put up with, got shitboxes running perfectly fine after 20+ years without ever doing so much as an induction or fuel cleaning service.

A 1970s 2 stroke moped like a Puch, Simson, Zundapp or a soviet Verhovina. It's the most simple motor vehicle possible and everything can be easily repaired or remade in a way a car can't be.

>engine has the size and mass of a miniature chihuahua
>single cylinder air cooled 2 stroke. No engine oil, dummy simple intake and exhaust ports and you can rebuild the entire thing in an afternoon with basic tools.
>very simple oil injection pump that lasts forever and even if it breaks you can run premix
>no fuel pump and a very simple 1920s tier carb
>no slant eyed oriental trickery like reed valves just a disc of metal with holes in it
>exhaust is just a straight metal tube connected to the engine
>a near invincible 4 (usually) speed sequential dogbox.
>chassis is closer to a bicycle than a motorbike frame
>kickstart only and a stator for spark so you don't even need a battery
>front and rear drum brakes that will be equally shit in 50 years as they were new. In a pinch old school bicycle brakes could stop it (modern push bikes have legit better disk brakes)

Reject modern appliance cars and RETVRN to scoot
>>
>>28613193
anything late 80's and early 90's gasoline powered should be a walk in the park
especially if it's fuel injected since the primitive fuel injection is 2 sensors at most and very basic electronics
e.g. a opel rekord with a CIH engine, plenty of space for everything, fuel injection can be retrofitted relatively easily and you should be able to maintain it without breaking a sweat

only downside to these old rust buckets is rust, mostly rusty bolts and screws making your life a nightmare
>>
>>28613230
So a challenger gt in Manuel is what your saying
>>
>>28613355
im not saying its a great car but it will probably be easy to maintain yeah
>>
>>28613201
w124's are pretty easy to work on
even my w203 isn't a nightmare though it is a bit crammed in the engine bay
german is fine as long as you're looking at petrol options and smaller motors and rwd layout makes everything 10 times more accessible
>>
>>28613230
>a vehicle that was sold with physically larger engine options but has a smaller engine in the car
That's probably the biggest pill, a big 3.0L-3.5L V6 FWD car can be a nightmare sometimes, but the 2.4L-2.5L version is a dream when you need to do shit.
>>
once the race wars start and production on all parts and fluids ends, everybody will realize that horses are way easier to maintain than automobiles
>>
>>28613368
in that case, you'd actually be better off with a donkey. much more durable than a horse.

>once the race wars start

I've heard Hector is going to be running 3 Civics with spoon engines and he just ordered 3 T66 turbos with NOS and a motec system exhaust
